You watched Tom Cotter discover them. Then you got to see him help relocate them. Now it’s time for the barn-find 427 Shelby Cobra and Ferrari 275 GTB/2 long-nose alloy coupe to cross the auction block. In this episode of Barn Find Hunter, Tom heads to Florida to attend Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island auction in hopes of witnessing these two rare cars go for big money. Will they meet reserve and find new homes? Do barn finds still have a special allure on such a stage? Follow along as we see how the story ends for these exceptional cars.

Best video on the KZfaqs they have now. No annoying music, No patronising 'on' presentation, No thanking your sponsors for longer than the actual 'content', No asking for money and above all else... straight to the action..... and a beautiful moment captured and shared. BRAVO, this was like the KZfaq I remember. 🏆

Cars have been my living most of my life, basically fixing them for others. Bringing dead back to life after many years is my favorite. I remember reading a Hot Rod article in 1980 about the 427 Cobra. " The Cobra would peal your eyelids back, bruise your kidneys and have you from 0-60 in 4 seconds..." Years in the business and yet to run across one in except in shows. 20 years running my own shop in Denver, qualified back yarder I guess, because I can't work for someone else and I can't get enough ahead to go fully legit. You Hagerty have my dream job. I've brought quite a few back to life like a '56 Jag Mk 5, and a ground up restore on a '64 Corvette. Also I've done 142 fix and flips in that 20 years. But again, just to keep the bills paid. Thanks for the videos, it keeps the dream alive.

Your involvement with these two cars adds some cool provenance to the cars' history! I certainly hope you were compensated appropriately for all your efforts with these cars! With auction houses getting 10% and more, a 1% handlers fee wouldn't seem out of line. That'd be right around $30,000 or so.
@amdg2023
@amdg2023 5 жыл бұрын
It's not really about the cars so much but about who made them. The value is the provenance, Carol, Enzo, these were the artists who had the passion. As much as they are worth had there been an original Warhol or Picasso in that garage you'd be buying a whole bunch of cars with the proceeds.

@@julianneale6128 I would take issue with that. Perhaps that's somewhat true of the 289 Cobra, which was largely unmodified save for the 260/289 engine implant. But the 427's required a great deal of redesign and engineering to shoehorn that massive engine into that very confined space, and to keep the front/rear weight balance to a near-perfect level.

Personally i CAll them AC Cobras so credit goes to where it's due. AC for AC factory and Cobra for Shelby

Probably put them up at local auction would be my guess. Neither the Morgan nor the Bimmer is anywhere near in the same league as the Cobra and 275.

Hey Tom! I'd like to have another '67 Dodge Polara wagon with a 383 like I had in high school. Mine was mint and owned by an old man and i paid $250 for it, in 1978. I put snow tires on all 4 wheels and took it off road a lot, where I probably spilled as much beer as I got down my throat. I also enjoyed tearing up the high school lawn and using it to run down chain link fences and bumping other cars on the highway (like Mercedes and Mustangs) when they hogged the fast lane. Find me another Polara Wagon, Please!

This makes me sad. Its a beautiful car meant to be driven. Keep it nice yes, but don't kill its spirit by parking it. I get buying cars as an investment but it does kill the hobby in some ways.

steve thomas Jay Leno is cool and all. I can careless of celebrities cars. They don't have the enjoyment of driving the cars they get bored and buy different car. And of course the have the cash for it.. I can tell you something as regular hard working man I enjoyed my cars because I work on them and don't buy them all done. I go to swap meets and look for parts need for my projects which makes it fun.. guess what I bet any of them celebrities never set a foot at a car swap meet looking for next project car or parts needed for there project. A car was made to be driven and not to be scared of a rock chip hitting the car. I'm restoring few cars (my personal cars and guess what there going to be on road.. and enjoy every moment doing it and if a rock hits it oh well . You only live once.. enjoy what you got..

Randy Sharp if there worth something sell them.. If you know your at a age you won't able to restore them. Sell them instead of letting them rust to the ground. You mentioned your still working . Sell them cars and you don't need to be working at your age. I don't know your age.. I'm just saying sell them and keep one of two that you really want to fix up.

Proof, if it was needed, that tax cuts for billionaires really boost the economy. In this specific case they boosted the economy of the millionaires who owned these two beauties.

My ex father in law bought a brand new 1970 ss chevelle ls6 after his high school graduation, He still has it today. Unmolested, factory original with 7800 miles as of the end of last summer. He started driving it to car shows the last couple summers. Its a 4speed car black with black vinyl roof and white racing stripes. Love To know what it is worth! Beautiful car in excellent original condition

I'm a Ford guy, but not a "fanboy". That Chevelle was like a lot of GM cars of the day a beauty. A friend of mine had a burgundy convertible with gold metalflake and a white leather interior. Fast and GORGEOUS. I moved shortly after he bought it and lost touch with him. I have wondered how long he kept that car. I let my Mustang convertible (1965) go and have regretted it many times.

I wonder what ever happened to the Mustang that some guy bought? It was a story on TV. A guy bought a "special edtion Mustang" back in the early 80's I think, from a newspaper ad, and it ended up being a Shelby prototype racing Mustang. One of a kind.

Being this is a public board where people can express free and open opinions, I"m not knocking you or anyone else's interests,but Chevelle's and Camaros and Corvettes are incredibly common, maybe even a dime a dozen. These cars seen at car shows and events are invisible. Rare? Hardly. I see at least 5 at every car event.

styldsteel1 this is true . Did you know theres more SS or ls6 or z28 or any rare car then built from the factory....lol ..alot of clones out there.. You can thank the car auction and tv shows for over price cars. As mentioned before in other public comments the fun and hobby about old muscle cars getting fixed and restore is no longer fun since prices are ridiculously high . Thank the tv and car auction.. People think they got gold when in reality the car is worth 1/3 off the price what there asking for..

I knew a 12 year old kid (I was 10 myself) back in 1978 that was busy acquiring cheap Mopar muscle cars with his paper route money. Sometimes people would just give him their old gas guzzler cars. They were worth next to nothing at the time. I think the most he paid for one was $200, which I think was a Cuda or Challenger. He was gradually filling up his parent's back yard with cars. Everyone thought he was nuts. The rest of the kids spent paper route money on junk food, pinball and video games at the local arcade, and BMX bicycles. I was his little brother's friend at school, and the older brother would bicycle over on his ugly POS girls bike to our school at lunch recess to tell us "I just bought another (Dart, Valiant, Charger, Cuda, Road Runner, etc... with a 340, 383, 440, even at least one 426 Hemi) car. I'm going to go back home so you guys can listen to me rev it up, OK?". He didn't even have a beginner's license yet. Who knew, right? I wonder what ever happened to Garry G. and his looney obsession?
