My thought exactly - this massive barge feels more cramped than a narrow boat!

Hi. Thanks for your interest in the boat. As the barge is also seagoing/coastal, it has a chine (the angle in the cross section of the hull) therefore we designed the plinths to cover the chines to create more usable living space. The ceiling height inside is about 7ft so you don’t really lose any headroom. The same goes for the bunk rooms. The other great thing about having the chine is that when approaching a shallow bank on the canals and rivers (Grand Union, Thames, Kennett and Avon) mooring is made so much easier as you can get right in where you couldn’t with a regular narrow boat. We had the boat designed specifically for the sea, rivers and larger canals of the UK and Europe. I hope that answers your question. Unfortunately the video doesn’t quite show off the space which is huge. I think the photos on the main listing do this better.

The platforms were built to accommodate stand alone furniture and are very easily removed if one were to prefer to built in furniture over the chines which would be an easy job for a carpenter. The hull shape allows the boat to glide through the water making it a very green option as saves hugely on fuel consumption. (The boat also has bow and stern thruster making it ultra manoeuvrable through the locks) and the hull shape is excellent also for mooring close to banks where flat bottomed boats couldn't get in.

Hey Marcel, I currently have a beautiful boat for sale- a 40 meter Belgian made Dutch Barge from 1966 - it's completely original and has not yet been converted meaning it's blank canvas for you to design as you please. It also just recently got it's 'keuring' papers meaning you have no worries for the next 7 years. It's not a seafaring barge like this one, it's strictly for rivers only.
