A lot of soldering happens at Holmes Hobbies, we mean A LOT! Because of that John knows quite a bit about soldering and got some new gear in that he wants to share with you. In this video, he is going to talk about a new solder station that arrived from Aoyue along with a bunch of tools and accessories you'll want to check out if you're interested in equipment that will result in pro level soldering for motors, speed controls, batteries and more.

My wife solders parts for the government and she always gives me a hard time. She has brought me aot of nice products that she uses at work. Like the solder, flux, thinning cans, brass wool stuff all has expiration dates lol. So when it goes out she will bring it to me. The solder I use is super tiny. I'm not even sure what diameter it is. Maybe a few human hairs wide? Lol but she solders some parts looking through a microscope! This looks like a super nice kit though!

Dude..... You're the man. I have watched countless soldering videos and not one has given me any information. This is by FAR the best soldering video ever. THANK YOU!!!! Signed: The guy with a horseshoe shaped chisel tip. 🤦🏼‍♂️

What was especially useful information for you?
@KnightenDaise

@@HolmesHobbies Definitely the screwdriver techniques. 😂 Seriously though, the info on the various fluxes was amazing, as was the info on tinning and why I've always wound up with trashed tips. Plus, I now know exactly what I did wrong years ago on my Vaterra Halix and why, right on schedule with what you said, all the connections went to hell on both my battery and ESC leads. Acid flux. Absolutely exactly as you said. Lol. I love that kit and am very strongly considering picking it up. The only part I wasn't in love with was the crappy-crap Helping Hands unit. There are so many better options out there, that baby would be in the trash without even being unboxed. Lol. Also loved the info on the various types of solder, using a little fresh solder for thermal transfer, the existence of the solder sucker, and really the entire video. Much and many thanks, man. Much and many.

I thought I was the worst solder guy ever. Ha. I'm a sheetmetal worker by trade and solder the ends on standing seam copper roofing. So I got a hold of big jar of flux paste. And yes it has acid in it. I've got a 930°f solder iron and half the time my joints look like hell. So I have some good solder juice now and I feel like a pro. Thank my brother.

Honestly I don’t find changing temps on my Hakko that bad. Had mine for 4 years and it’s mostly used for heavy solder jobs. Not ver often do I change the temp from about 825. That fan does look interesting and I may have to grab one. Thanks for another entertaining yet educational vid sir

When I was taught soldering in the USAF, they never told us about not putting solder to the tip. I recently killed the tip on my Trak Power 950. At least now I won't do it again. I've been using those Helping Hands for decades. But I get them from Big Lots for $4.

Great video I’m just getting into a first soldering project on my trx-4. When I worked on transport trucks we would mix baking soda and water and dip the corroded wire in it then it comes clean with a wire brush fairly easy. Quick tip for your truck cable ya did, thought I’d pass on! ✌️

I don't know what flux I used, but i always used solid solder to prevent that degradation. never has issues. all my stuff, except the soldering iron, were form radio shack. Yup cheap stuff, but used right I never had an issue with lack of tinning or cold joints. I learned how to solder from some old slot car gurus and the tips apply to everything I've ever soldered Never had solder flicked into my face, but had it flick over the edge of the table and hit my bare feet, also not recommended

honestly, I use a $20 amazon iron that's quite crappy. But it works. Jigs and helping hands are what are really important. Pre tin ing the connector and leads... I've used it to remove 6.5mm bullets and put on 4mm ones, and have also had to put fresh 6.5 bullets on a motor that came without connectors (looking at you TP Power!). If I soldered more than three times a year, then I'd invest into something that could maintain heat better... but it's never let me down per se.

I have had an aoyue for about 5 years or so now. It is a great iron heats up fast and I had found a chart to references for each setting and it's relative temperature. The only draw back is it did come with a corrosion sponge to clean the tip...... May be time to order new tips and some of that tinning prep

Ok Mr. Holmes, I have an element front runner 4 runner that I bought for my son for xmas. I purchased 3 of your motors after reading that the smaller the turn the faster the rc goes. So I figured I would buy the Crawl master sport 550 8T. the 13T and the trail master 550 21T. well none of them made the 4 runner any faster. Can you steer me towards what gearing i need to be about as fast as my Trax bronco 2021 plz. not looking for speed demon just enough to be "fun" when he wants. lol
