I got a hate/love relationship with him, I say the love part is just for his actor but dam! his roughness, his thought that he's really doing the right thing and he's the real hero of his history, but he's not the hero he's the villain and I frigging love that. bc the hero it's just the hero, in change the villain had all a past behind him.

imo, he is an anti-Hero. But honestly, Soldier Boy as a person is a lot better and sane than Homelander. Soldier Boy is someone you can reason with, and not get killed in that process. SB is a mild sociopath. Homelander on the other hand is a complete psychopath who only cares about his personal image, and of what others thinks of him. Also, you've got to realize that SB comes from a generation where "Men" were expected to be rough and tough. Crying and showing emotions were seen as feminine traits, let alone seeking attention of others which will completely get you roasted.

Or he saw in Homelander what his dad saw in him, and realized why he was a disappointment. What he'd done wrong reflected back at him. When Homelander says "I'm you" Soldier boy says "I know. You're a fucking disappointment."

I've only been able to watch a few episodes with him so far so maybe im wrong. When I was watching it felt like Soldier boy could have Been like captin america if a few things were different. Unlike Homelander who could never be like superman no matter what. Maybe if Soldier boy had done just a few things differently, had worked on himself just a little bit, really tried he could have been risen above it all and been like Steve Rodgers. And thats almost tragic
