I keep coming back as well. I like this rendition better than Eva's. Eva is still a great singer and killed as daisy in gatsby.

I kind of love how different Solea's version is. Eva's version of "Flowers" is more Eurydice struggling to come to terms with her decision - she portrays the beauty in grief, specifically in denial and bargaining (and towards the end of the song acceptance too). Solea's version is almost grotesque, she's already very aware of her situation, she uses this borderline disgusting tone to show another side of grief that cannot be heard or seen in the original cast recording of "Flowers"; and therefor doesn't capture the same naive feeling Eva does. Instead, Solea's Eurydice is pouring every bit what is left of herself into the song, she knows she's trapped but is trying so hard to be seen and heard - as reassurance - 'I'll be okay, I'm finally free from (the) Fate(s)'. Idk, they're two sides of the same coin, and they both portray grief and loss just in very unique and seperate ways. I actually find it really beautiful how Solea was able to find her own version of Eurydice instead of trying to be Eva's personification in the character.

Eva has always been my favorite female Broadway female vocalist! I had the privilege to see her in Hadestown last May and literally started shedding tears as soon as she started singing. For no reason but pure shock and awe lol! I didn’t realize Solea would do the exact same to me for totally different reasons! Solea is vocally flawless in every role I’ve heard her sing, but my gosh this performance is the best I’ve ever seen of her! This was riveting and gave me complete chills. I can’t pick who my favorite is now, Eva’s or Solea’s version😳. I need a cast recording with her and Jordan please Lord 🙏🏿

This is such a powerful interpretation. Her grounded tone really suits the emotional journey of this song. I actually feel it made more of an impact on me this way than previous ones; not saying they’re bad, just that this one resonated with me more.

Eva's live versions of Flowers are far more powerful and emotional than the album version thankfully, but I do wish more emotion went into the cast recording like Solea's version.

Oh boy …..exquisite flawless vocals and finally the emotional intensity and depth of expression appropriate to such a heart rending song of entrapment and regret ….I’m in Australia and could almost buy a ticket & board a plane and make the long trip to see and hear this live ….only stumbled across Hadestown as a pop up on Tiny Desk …for me it’s head and shoulders the best musical I’ve ever experienced and this rendition of my favourite song, Flowers, seizes all cakes and keeps them ….

What I wanted was to fall asleep Close my eyes and disappear Like a petal on a stream, a feather on the air Lily white and poppy red I trembled when he laid me out "You won't feel a thing," he said, "when you go down" Nothing gonna wake you now Dreams are sweet, until they're not Men are kind, until they aren't Flowers bloom, until they rot, and fall apart Is anybody listening? I open my mouth and nothing comes out Nothing, nothing gonna wake me now Flowers, I remember fields of flowers Soft beneath my heels Walking in the sun, I remember someone Someone by my side, turned his face to mine And then I turned away, into the shade You, the one I left behind If you ever walk this way Come and find me lying in the bed I made

I really enjoy her wounded rage because it sounds phenominal, but I kind of agree that the character is supposed to be kind of naive about the world and about love, a sweet innocence that's taken advantage of later on. This song is pretty early in the show and her tone already indicates she knows everything about the what's wrong with the world.
@amdyblade22459 ай бұрын
Believe it or not, Eva portrayed this song more like this than she did for the cast recording as she was wrapping up her run as Eurydice

Yeah there is much more emotion but I feel like the Christina Aguilera voice is way too strong.

Yeah I’m used to the recording but the touring cast I saw live with the under study was done perfectly with a softer voice.
@TheRatchetFairy_8 ай бұрын
I don’t know if they changed anything about the play when changing the cast. But I think this was kinda perfect. Idk why people keep saying Eurydice is supposed to be naïve when she was a runaway? And already knew about the ways of the world. Orpheus was the dreamer and that’s what attracted her to him. She wanted to believe in his dream too
