@@SallyChristianMusic Thank you and your wishes are well received! I have been learning piano in this stage of my life, and am drawn to your videos. I am grateful for both your musical teachings and the vulnerability of sharing the wisdom gained through your personal experiences. Truly an example of generosity. Today, you taught me to be gentle with myself throughout the learning process, and as an voracious and enthusiastic learner that spoke to the 8year old within. In appreciation, always.

@@raultorres-bonilla5649 Wow, thank you for your wonderful and thoughtfully expressed words about my videos. It is truly a pleasure and privilege to share what I have learned and love about this art form. Being gentle with ourselves is often so difficult to do, especially when the road is long and steep from the beginning steps to the finished product. Staying present to where we are right now and enjoying every step of the process is key. I often refer to the phrase "gently down the stream" from Row, Row, Row Your Boat. This seemlingly innocent nursery rhyme holds great wisdom as we navigate throughout life! With all best wishes to you and much joy on this marvelous and mysterious journey with music! 🎵

Hello Uli, thank you for your words about the 8 year-old within us all. That little child remains within us as we pass through the decades. It is a learning process, just like learning the piano 🤗. Today I can shout to the world, I am free to be free! Many blessings for you and your loved ones always! Hello Sally, this interpretation of C.P.E Bach' s Solfeggietto is quite amazing.You indeed managed to play it with the perfect balance between virtuosity and expressivity.Your "touché" and "phrasé" are more subtle and wiser, and they give the space required for the piece to be performed.Thank you for being humble enough to listen to advices. @@SallyChristianMusic Thank you for making this teaching video. Your analysis of the piece is very helpful for understanding and learning it. However, I would like to make a little suggestion to help improve the video and that is put a mic near your mouth. The piano is so much louder than your voice so that when you set the volume at a good level to listen to the song it is hard to hear what you are saying. When you set the volume to hear your voice better the piano is way too loud.

well played, but the explanation about the scale is not correct: in classical music, what we call the 'natural minor' is NEVER used in the ascending form, as you demonstrated, and in this piece in particular, it's the melodic minor that is used, and not the harmonic minor. The harmonic minor, in classical music, although used musically too, is more of a theoretical scale used to explain the generalities of a minor key, without involving the complexity of the melodic minor, which requires the sixth degree to be raised also whenever it approaches the raised seventh. Too long to explain here :)
@iandodds6933 жыл бұрын
Yeah the B natural occurs when the dominant harmony is temporarily being used. G7 ( with the flat 13th Eb borrowed from Cmin. ) Pretty jazzy I'd say. But nevertheless it's a brilliant breakdown of the piece. Thanks to Sally.
@wellshoot3 жыл бұрын
In the beginning of the piece you said that it is much easier to play it with one hand. What is the reason for playing it with two hands, and why wouldn’t someone just play it with only one?
@SallyChristianMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hello Evan, thank you for your very good question. It would be easier to play the 4 notes of beats 1 & 3 all with the left hand because these are triad notes and fit the hand nicely. CPE Bach has written a very interesting pattern of taking the first 16th note of all 4 beats with the right hand. This gives a certain rhythmic excitement, and also allows us to move quickly and seamlessly over the keyboard with these non-stop chordal and scale passages. It takes some practice to play it smoothly, but it’s really an efficient and ingenious way of distributing the notes between the hands and also creating a virtuosic toccata style piece.

Hi Sally! Wonderful video. I had viewed your more recent one on this piece and you referred me back to this 2017 lesson. I'm afraid you misunderstood me when I said I was "beginning to learn this piece" to mean I was a beginner pianist. Actually, I've been playing for years and can play many classical pieces. In regard to this one, I wish your camera angle would have better captured the keyboard so I was more able to see which hand plays which notes. The piece is fast and encompasses a broad range. Thank you for putting out these videos. You are a wonderful teacher.
@SallyChristianMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mel, thank you for your very kind words about the teaching videos, and for the clarification that you have been playing the piano already for many years! I agree that it would have been nice to see the hands close up to see which hand plays which notes. This question you have can be easily answered by looking at the music of the New Layout Chart that I engraved for this piece and also use in the lesson. If you look at the chart music, you will see that the fingerings are clearly marked to clear up any confusion. The right hand fingerings are placed above the notes, and the left hand fingerings are placed below the notes. This makes it very easy to see which hand plays which notes. Best wishes to you and your successful playing of Solfeggietto!

Hello Reece, thank you for your nice words and your question about on-line lessons. I am sorry to say I am not giving any Skype lessons at this time. Best wishes to you and with your playing.

Very scale-u-lar and it's not my cup of tea. But you played it well. What is worse is to hear heavy-metal Bach. There always seems to be some motor in Bach's piece that keeps it chugging along. Everything keeps getting pushed along and to what end? Musically are we travelling from Dusseldorf to Hamburg? Things fly by and maybe that was their idea of fun fun fun on the Autobahn. Keep up the good work!

Hello Joshua, thank you so much for your comment! Choosing this tempo for Solfeggietto was a process that took much time, practice, and reflection!

. Much better played than your old one but could still be touched up a bit, great job.

Una pregunta... Esta pieza es a nivel básico? La maestra que tengo con escasas clases de piano ya quiere que toque esto
@SallyChristianMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hola Paranoid Ruby, esta pieza no está en el nivel inicial. Necesitarías unos 2 o 3 años de piano antes de tocarlo. Mejores deseos para usted.

Hi Sally, This is a great video and it is helping me a lot! but just curious what grade it is? thanks so much :)
@SallyChristianMusic7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jasmine, thank you for your very nice words! You ask an excellent question. Simply playing the notes at a moderate tempo would make it an early intermediate level piece. Performing it seamlessly, musically, and at a much livelier tempo would then make it an early advanced level piece.

Good for those who are learning....but I think a little too much fuss about Classical music...I think you have to improvise to make ideas your own....

But it wasn't played in this tuning. It was played with the solfeggio tuning (natural). I was once told that the cuckoo is out of tune.... Not believing that nature is mistuned, i soon realised that it is we that have lost the tuning. Cuckoo says perfectly B# C#, B# C#, B# C#. whilst a music expert was telling me that the Cuckoo had a diminished 7th or some such nonsense. The out of tune Cuckoo has no mate, full stop. That is how nature works. In the 30's, all of our tuning was changed. All of the church bells were destroyed. Now A is 440 hz, so they tell us. Rubbish, I say. Now, I know talent when I here it (you have very much talent sally), but I don't here much music.... except the cuckoo, and in nature. A few musicians get it and they make my heart sing... but sadly not enough. Waves on the beach, the wind in the trees and the rush of the waterfall... The musicians of the past would have used nature to tune. They wrote to twang the nerves. Beethoven was profoundly deaf for the last 15 years of his productive life and in those years he produced his finest works because he used his sensory feelings. Biting on a stick to convey the sounds through his skull.... But we don't get to hear it how Beethoven heard/intended it.
