29 years ago as a mature student of 32 when I was deciding whether to read Accounting or Law at university a senior barristers clerk advised me not to attempt becoming a Barrister for the very same reasons you cite and in particular the importance of your legal contacts. He said to me "I've seen very good barristers called to the bar not get enough work and so spend every penny of capital they've ever amassed and then have to go out and get a proper job. If I were you I'd stick to accounting." I did stick to accounting but wish I'd become a barrister because even as an accountant I've got through all my money and I would have been qualified in both law and accounting which would have been useful as I get a reasonable amount of legal consultancy work now. Anyway, we make our choices based on our feelings and the information available at the time. An excellent video thank you.

Great content, I find this especially insightful as there is a distinct lack of KZfaq content regarding the roles of both barrister and solicitor within the Irish legal system. It would be great if you could share some of your thoughts/knowledge on the employed bar (i.e moving in-house as a barrister).
