I am working with a client to integrate his Byzantine part number, drawing number, and naming system in his solidworks files. He doesn't know solidworks. In ten minutes this video did a great job of showing him what can be done. Because of this video we have made some good progress working out a better system for him. Thank you for such concise instruction.

To the point, no nerdy jokes or awkward pauses and very good information. As a SW Expert I scan KZfaq from time to time looking for new techniques to improve my skills and I never new about typing into the Title Block to fill the properties of the part. This is awesome. I can't tell you how many times I see an error in the properties and constantly have to open the part and go to properties.

I received a comment regarding the complexity of SolidWorks vs. AutoCAD with title blocks. I'm not sure if I deleted it on accident. Keep in mind that you can use SolidWorks the same way you use AutoCAD. But then it's just text. By using SolidWorks title blocks properly the properties that get filled in will also propagate to the BOM, PDM, and ERP system if you have one. AutoCAD is static! There is no associativity. I have used both SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Trust me. This is better.

Gotta love how every Solidworks Title Block video on here has you start with an AutoCAD titleblock. Can't Solidworks make their own Titles?

Hi George. I can understand your question. I've been selling software for over 15 years now. I live in Michigan where most of our customers are machine designers who started on AutoCAD before moving to 3D. Almost all of them needed to know how to utilize their existing title blocks in SolidWorks. I'm not sure I remember one person asking me if they can start from scratch when they already had one they have been using. Yes, you can create new title blocks from a blank slate in SolidWorks. It's just rare. In my experience.

+George Finch George, Often times, such as in my case - companies already have a standard title block in use and want to keep it. At times recreating it takes much time, so importing does come in very handy in this regard.

Jim, this is a well done video and I appreciate the effort. I am having an issue on SW 2016 SP 2 where at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z92getd3yaivcac.html#t=148 I am viewing a greyed out text entry area as well as some minor differences in the wording of the link to property dialogue box (and drop downs). The reason I went looking for videos is that I have not been using Solidworks for some time and I was having difficulties setting up custom properties. I have entered them in but for "some" reason they are not all populating. After watching this video I went to work with more confidence but ran into problems again as noted above.
