It’s true, rural China is still more underdeveloped than the government would like the outside world to know, and culturally things are much different from other peoples experiences in the west. A clear one in the video is Chinese people wearing white to funerals, where as black is traditional in most of Europe and North America. But one thing that is clear from many of these types of much more rural China videos is that the people are very welcoming and sweet, obviously more so when you speak their language and they can communicate with you.

He is traditionally credited as the transmitter of Chan Buddhism to China, and is regarded as its first Chinese patriarch. According to a 17th-century apocryphal story found in a manual called Yijin Jing, he began the physical training of the monks of Shaolin Monastery that led to the creation of Shaolin kungfu. He is known as Dámó in China and as Daruma in Japan. His name means "dharma of awakening (bodhi)" in Sanskrit.[1]
