It was just a game for fun where I decided to do a little more playtesting of my house-ruled technology!
Enjoy the game, I know I sure liked rolling all those dice.

Nice video! I like tech, as long as it doesn't tilt the game. The tech in GW36 is a good system, as you can see what might happen before it does, and you can prepare. Just FYI: the AA dice to happen as a First Strike in battles, but not in Strat bombing, just to be confusing. I'm in the middle of a remote G40 game with a guy who is way better at it than I am, but that's the best way to get better! Italy is boxed in, but Japan just captured Calcutta, and my IJN is keeping a massive USN at bay...for now. He has done a masterful job at protecting Moscow, so I am sort of playing defense on the Eastern Front, as he doesn't have a lot of punch, and I can feed infantry into the area for cheap. Good video - subbed!

Thank you so much for the view and the comment, Hilltop Pillbox! I have found that my technology house rule does tilt the game, but proportionally to the way the game was already going. What I mean by that is if a nation is collecting a lot of money, then they get to roll a lot of tech so it speeds up the game in favor of those who have more money and are presumably already closer to victory. I still have A LOT of playtesting before it comes close to being more balanced, but I rationalize the pitfall as speeding the game up where one side can more easily snowball to victory instead of being forced to slog out an already lengthy game. Thanks for the rules clarification, I have so many rulebooks in my head between all the Axis and Allies titles, Global War 1939, '36, and '14 I may never get through a game perfectly! Your remote game sounds like a fun one for sure especially with tipping points about to take place on both sides where Russia is holding and the Americans are at bay, very interesting! I always love to hear how games go for others and what strategies work or do not go so well. Perhaps the path to victory for you in that game lies in the Pacific with the loss of the FEC and the dormant nature of the US. If you are wanting to get a game in and are looking for another player, just give me a shout!

@@EliteGolden Interesting thoughts. I think the main reason tech works so well in GW36 and GW39 is simply the D12 system. By increasing attack or defense by 8.5%, it's not game-breaking. A 16.7% shift can be. Yes, the G40 game I'm in right now is compelling. He is a stronger player, to be sure, as I play every version out there and haven't focused on getting strong on any specific one. I understand the troubles with multiple rule books swirling around your head! The U.S. isn't "dormant", per se, just having to pause and reconsider, now that I lured him to Johnson Island (no port) and have a massive fleet in the Carolines. He can't attack, and I really can't attack him when he returns to Pearl. But, the longer that stand-off goes, the more Japanese tanks rip around the Middle East and (hopefully) into the USSR. If you are interested, please send me an email at hilltoppillbox@gmail.com and let me know when you are available. I have another guy on the line wanting to do a GW39 game in September, so that might work. Let me know! I'm off to Italy tomorrow until August, so I won't be putting any content out, but feel free to leave me an email, and I will catch up when I return. Cheers!

Haven't seen any 1940 or any global before this, looks fun. I vaguely remember techs from 1941, but even if you got a tech it was random so often useless unless lucky and then it's a bit OP. So I like the automatic tech tokens a lot, so you don't have to sacrifice IPC for them. And that you can choose what to research, very nice. I would have liked to see a huge naval battle, any reason Japan wasn't more aggressive? Especially combined with its air force it looked way more powerful.

Thank you for the comment about the technology, I also like when players can just receive the ability to go for tech rather than seek it out for money. When that burden is put on the players I find that they will almost never go for technology. As for the reason there was no aggressive Japan or naval battle, that can be chalked up to Japan wanting to face one challenge at a time. I almost always go for a defeat of China first (which has its pros and cons) then turn to India and the USA. I am currently beginning to record another gameplay video so perhaps I will make Japan a bit more aggressive just to see how Japan with the tech rules plays out against the Allies. Maybe Japan will get some good luck on naval tech!

@EliteGolden I've just stumbled across your channel and I'm loving the extra pieces, aircraft bases and colouring. Can you point me to any resources so I can up my game? I couldn't see an unboxing or video about all the extra stuff you use. Thanks!

Thank you very much, I am glad you like all the upgrades! Many of the things that I use on the board I actually made myself with a 3D printer, so unfortunately there was nothing to really unbox, haha. As for the many pieces that I use as units, they come from either the base game or Historical Board Gaming. I have spent more money on HBG products than I would like to admit, but since I have been collecting for many years at this point, I had already bought many units before starting my KZfaq channel. Also, HBG is the provider I bought the metal flight stands and the national build plates from. I hope this helps and I would be happy to elaborate on anything to assist as well! I always thought that tricking out this game was almost as fun as actually playing it

Thanks for the reply! I'm very much at the beginning of this journey, but if I can get my game half as pretty as yours looks I'll be a happy man! I was worried you'd say most was 3D printed; I can't quite justify buying one yet ha I'll definitely check out HBG for the flight stands - if you have a commission link or anything, let me know and I can make sure to use it when I buy In terms of the colour tips you have on the aircraft & ships - these look like the out of the box pieces but with tips added? Can you explain what/how you've added these as my players & I often have issues easily distinguishing between these at a glance while playing Thanks!

@@chicken312281 The colored tips on the aircraft and ships are for easy identification. Many of my friends have had a tough time with it in the past so this just makes it easier. All of the pieces are from the out-of-box game, so no extras there. All I did was go to my local board gaming store and get some figurine paint. Then it is up to you on what colors you want to denote what unit and where to paint it. I chose the front, back, and superstructure of each boat so that the color is visible, but not overbearing.

I 3D printed them myself actually, it was a lot of fun but also it a while! I think Historical Board Gaming sells something similar if you really like them.

It would be awesome if you made a video releasing your technology rules and also making a way the the viewers could access it (Also 5 tech roles a turn seems like a lot)

Hey awesome video! where did you get the map marker tokens? They make your map really pop!
@EliteGolden
@EliteGolden 6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment! All the flags on the board (and a majority of everything else that is not a fighting unit) I 3D printed myself. I use a filament 3D printer for almost everything and the color comes from swapping out the color at different layer heights.

How is playing a solo game? Do you feel like it is really hard because you know all countries plans how does it work?
@EliteGolden
@EliteGolden 11 ай бұрын
Playing a solo game is harder because I know what all the countries want to achieve and also what they can do on their next turn. Although it's less stressful, I did find myself planning the Japanese turn on the British turn accidentally just because I was trying to keep the FEC from falling for any tricks. All in all, I had fun and will definitely be doing something like this again soon!

Just how do you play the game sols?
@EliteGolden
@EliteGolden 6 ай бұрын
It is a little more difficult since I already know what each side is thinking, but I try to establish a strategy for each country to stick to overall and the smaller movements that happen each turn are just reactions to what the adversaries have done before them. Not quite as good a game as with friends, but at least I get to roll some dice anyway!

How did you bomb Berlin from London. You can´t go and return from there bc it´s 8 spaces away
@EliteGolden
@EliteGolden 11 ай бұрын
I was using my house rules for technology. Britain and the US went early for long-range aircraft. With bonuses from that and an airbase the total a bomber could go to would be 9 spaces. The house rules make for a "less standard game" which, to me at least, makes it more fun!

Amazon or from the Renegade Games website, it’s 2 games (Axis & Allies Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940) combined, there’s also a couple smaller A&A games as well (1941, 1942). 1941 is also available from some** Barnes & Nobles

A number of years ago now I purchased them from Historical Board Gaming, but I do not think they carry them anymore. One option is to get the Hit Dice from Renegade Studios which will be releasing later this year. Another option is to go to your local gaming store and look there or even purchase blank dice and put stickers on the sides you want to denote. They sure do make rolling out battles faster. Happy hunting!
