June 18, 2021 I went on a solo backpacking trip in the Sespe Wilderness. I followed the Sespe River Trail to Bear Creek where I set up camp and spent the night. On the way there I encountered a Tarantula and on the way back I was visited by a young tortoise.

I'm a valley kid too! Haven't done sespe yet, it's on the short list. First backpacking trip ever was to Matilija!

The Sespe area is so nice! Can't wait to get back out there myself in the fall. We had gone to Willet Hot Springs. Bear Creek is a nice overnight spot too!

I'll bet that river is flowing well right now! Hard to believe there are still bodies not found along the Sespe from the '69 floods.

I have done solo horse trail rides in the back country of Ventura County. I can tell you from first-hand experience that there are bears in the Ventura county mountains. I have seen them !
