Explore the beautiful Ohio backcountry with me! In this video I take you for a trip through the Wayne National Forest in lovely Ohio! This portion of the forest is located in the Marietta unit of the Wayne National Forest. The entire first day of the trip was on the Greenwood Trail, with the second day incorporating the Scenic River Trail, culminating in some amazing views of the Ohio River!
This is my first ever KZfaq video so I would really appreciate any feedback that you have on the video! I tried to get a good mix of nature shots, cinematic shots and quality narration of what the experience was like actually being on the trail!
In the future my channel will have more backpacking videos, day hikes, camping, skills instruction, gear reviews and much more!
Please like, comment, subscribe and share!

Very cool video. I’d love to learn more about your gear. What are must haves vs nice to haves? How do you set up your camp and why?

Thanks for taking the time to watch! I have all of the above planned. I plan on doing 1-2 small gear reviews per trip as well as short standalone videos on gear as well. It will take me a few weeks to build up enough footage to do this but it's coming!

It's kind of funny hearing your lion, tigers, and bears bit. I live 20 minutes from that trailhead, and I've never seen a bear in Ohio ( I know we do have them). But I have definitely seen a mountain lion. Used to see him every now and then driving to work at 2 AM, thinking he was just a really big bobcat. Then one day he ran across the road and I saw the long tail.

Yikes. I’ve heard bobcats in the WNF and tons of coyotes but I’ve never seen or heard a mountain lion or bear.

For the day you need to pack large amounts of water, I have a hack. The bladdervthat is inside a boxed wine is perfect. Use hand tools to get the faucet off the first time, afterwards it comes off easily. Couple of grams. Holds 3--4 liters. Makes water taste great. Very tough plastic. Advise carrying it low in pack.

Nice video! You did a good job capturing the views of the trail. The conversation with the Camera had a natural flow to it for having no script, excited to see more content 👍🏼

I like your observations while you hike. Like the story with the beech trees or historical stuff about the area and nearby trails. Feels like a vlog since you're keeping a good pace and talking to us. Thanks for bringing us this hike to us.

Pretty cool trail, only saw two people in 24 hours. Lots of campsite options to choose from. You could connect it to Archer's Fork if you wanted to do multiple nights camping.

Nice video! Never have been to this area and will have to make a trek this summer and trg my hand at backpacking again. Have you been to Shawnee State Park? I’d be interested to know what you think of that area since it is a huge loop.

Thanks for the comment! I’ve been to Shawnee. Lots of bugs and lots of hills lol. I’m actually considering going there within the next month again and shooting video for the channel. This is the time of the year to do it, in the summer it’s just another green tunnel full of chiggers haha

Curious your thoughts about how safe my dog will out there back packing with me. German shepherd. I heard you mention coyotes.
@Bacon_N_Backpacking
@Bacon_N_Backpacking 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I’m not a predatory animal expert to start work. With that being said, coyote attacks on large dogs are pretty rare in general. Last I looked into it only about 5% of coyote attacks on domestic animals were on “big” dogs. That can obviously change the older/weaker your dog appears. With a human AND a large dog, I would say the risk is pretty minimal, but I suppose it’s never zero.

I’ve also never heard coyotes come close to camp. The have always stayed a decent distance away. I also don’t cook/eat where I sleep and I hang my food away from camp as well. However, there are a LOT of coyotes out there. At times I’ve heard up to three separate packs calling at once. There’s never been a time in the Marietta district that I didn’t hear coyotes.

I saved enough for breakfast and a couple sips on the walk back. Definitely could’ve used another liter but I wasn’t willing to carry it lol

Is this trail safe to solo for women? Do your sunglasses keep bugs out of your eyes? What brand do you recommend? How long is this trail?
@Bacon_N_Backpacking
@Bacon_N_Backpacking 2 жыл бұрын
As far as if a trail is safe or not, I’m not equipped to answer that question. The area isn’t really known for any crime but things can happen anywhere I suppose so my best life advice in general would be to know how to defend yourself no matter where you are. Sunglasses keep more bugs out of your eyes than if you weren’t wearing any. It doesn’t “bug proof” you though, sometimes mosquitoes still fly under the glasses. I am partial to Oakleys. The ones I wear hiking are M frames. This trail is actually a combo of two different trails, Scenic River Trail and Greenwood Trail. I believe the length was around 11-12 miles.

What hammock set up do you use?

I have an entire video of it on my channel if you want to check it out. Everything is from Warbonnet. Hammock is the Original Blackbird. Top quilt is a custom zippered foot box Diamondback. Under quilt is a Wooki. Tarp is the Mountainfly.

Haha yeah it was okay. Unfortunately I recorded it at 4K 60fps but I didn’t know I had to change my KZfaq settings so it’s 1080 lol. To be fair, I’ve been watching you and SBO for a year so that gave me an idea of what I should be doing lol
