When I was younger I always dreamed of travelling from town to town on foot, carrying a small amount of gear and camping out along the way. In these towns I would find a few days work to earn a little money then replenish my supplies and continue with my travels.
This trip was an attempt to feel what that kind of lifestyle would've been like.
I spent a good portion of the day hiking until I came to a small forest stream. There I set up my camp for the night, had a quick meal, and got a really good sleep. In the morning after a quick bite to eat and some coffee I packed up and once again hit the trail.
This was a really fun trip that allowed me to experience what a different lifestyle may have entailed.
Thank you to everyone who watches. I hope you enjoyed this one as much as I did.
FAQ/Info:
Where was this filmed?
Alberta, Canada.
What about the wildlife?
This area is home to many wildlife species including black bears, grizzly bears, cougars, and wolves.
For the most part, these animals are very timid towards humans and will cause no trouble. With that being said I do carry bear spray and I have educated myself on how to deal with dangerous wildlife.
While out filming I ran across two black bears, a sow and her cub. The cub climbed into a tree, and the sow was between me and her cub. The situation was very calm. Once I saw them I made a little noise (speaking softly) to make my presence known. The sow looked at me then shortly went back to grazing. I was able to hang out for about 20 minutes and watch them before I backed out and went a different way for my hike. I was approximately 20 yards away from the sow when I was filming her.
What is my cook set?
Old tins cans I cleaned up. My cup and kettle are made from different sizes of tin cans. The skillet is made from a metal coffee can. They worked quite well. Special care has to be taken if you're going to use old cans as a cook set. Most cans these days have a plastic film on them which must be removed before cooking. I also polymerized oil on the cans after the plastic was removed to create a barrier between my food and the metal.
Was the grass bed warm?
I've used beds of grass before but always dry grass. I wasn't sure how the green grass bed would be in terms of warmth. Due to the moisture in the grass I had my suspicions that it may draw heat away rather than act as an insulator. The temperature got fairly cold at night.. cold enough that frost formed on my tarp and the surrounding area. I stayed plenty warm on the grass bed, however. It acted as a great insulator and my body didn't get cold at all.
What was the temperature on this trip?
I'm not exactly certain. Warm during the day. At night it was cold enough that frost formed. It didn't get below freezing though. It was really nice temperatures for camping.
What did I eat?
Dinner- Potato, onion, and cured sausage skillet.
Breakfast- Coffee and apples.

An interesting quote. After looking it up though-it has no reference. It doesn't actually make much sense if you really think about it. Also, define toy? Women? Cars? Etc. Actual toys like a lego firetruck? Maybe the quote means hobbies, well that doesn't mame sense either. Game maybe, chess backgammon etc. Well surely they need an opponent? I think this is just one of those quotes that someone may have said that roughly equates to less is more. It is an interesting concept in a Carl Jung type of way tho.

It makes a LOT of sense. I am a South African Pensioner and can't afford much in the way of 'toys' - so I make my own. Next up is a tent made partially to my own design. Last toy I made was a hobo reel. And I want to make a wood gasifying stove. One way of other I have a LOT of fun.

50 of 74 years a hobo. You were indeed close to how hobos in the 1930s Great Depression got by. Of course riding the rails figured more into the routine rather than walking. Yet there were those that just walked town to town as well. I stopped traveling at age 66 because my leg got too bad to catch trains. I used a sleeping bag rather than a wool blanket. A blue plastic tarp instead of canvas. Tin can cooking. By this video you could have been me for many nights in my life.

Very simple, but beautiful camping, and love this style ..... as I'm an old lady, and not strong enough to carry a heavy gear for camping ... for an emergency I've got whole set of the gear for caimping at home, as our location is along the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by the Tone River, which indicates the risk of tsunami in the quake, like the one occurred on the New Year Day around the Noto Peninsula, located along the Japan Sea ... two years ago I began to practice surfing so that I can survive any tsunami, ha ha!😁

To me, that's how bushcraft should be! ....my question is, has anyone heard of getting ill by cooking in tins like this? I watched one video where dude cooked a his canned food over the fire, but issued a warning that he didn't recommend doing that.
