Another solo camping Winter trip at high elevation in the Vic High Country.
Solo camping during Winter is a great time of year to be camped at high elevation in the Vic High Country, the air is fresh and the nights can be very chilly.
After camp had been setup, i walk to the Pinnacles Fire Tower lookout to check out the amazing view across the Vic High Country.
From the summit the mountain views are simply breath taking. It was so peaceful and quiet while absorbed the views for some time.
This high elevation camping spot that i have set up on is around 1400 meters above sea level.
There was still a few patches of snow lying around from the server cold snap that came through a week prior to my solo camping Winter trip.
The main thing to take into account when you are solo camping during Winter, is to be prepared for any kind of weather forecast.
During the night, very strong winds picked and made for a very wild night in my swag.
The next morning the wind was still too strong and gusty to get my campfire going. So, i didn't cook breakfast that morning. Just packed and headed for home.
While on a solo camping Winter trip, be ready for anything that may be thrown at you and deal with it as it happens.

I can hardly decide if its the beautiful backcountry that keeps me watching those episodes or you, the presenter, in soooo much enjoying what you do. I just told my wife: watch Batesy if you want to see one happy guy! One just can't ACT happiness, this is the real deal and it shows. Wonderful, thanks for sharing, can't wait for the next episode.

I came across your videos and subscribed to your channel. I love the simplicity of how you do things unlike other 4x4 and camping videos they highlight all their expensive gears as if saying if you do not have an expensive set up and those expensove gears, camping and the road trips wont be worth it. But the way you do things is simply awesome, you give people like us the reason that camping and road trips aint about the expensive gears and equipment but it's more about simplicity and enjoying the outdoors with what you have. I am a fan of your videos mate, Keep them coming.

Very nice camping spot Tim and another great video to watch from you. Thank you for the 26 minutes of your camping experience which was a pleasure to watch while being in lockdown Victoria with camping envy. If your pies were perfect great stuff. If they were a little dry try adding 2 TBSP of gravy on top of the meat before you seal them up. You can also make extra gravy sometimes for the chips. Not every time though. Happy camping Tim.👍

What a cracking spot mate. Magic. I make the same pies Tim, oval pan but same idea. Try cutting your pastry at 12,3,6,9 its helps when you drop it in the pie tin, the slits are folded over each other and leave a nice clean base and less trim. Nothing better than a home made pie in the dead of winter at camp. Stay safe. Until the next freedom from this Covid mess. Can't wait.

Hi Tim. Tony from Briagolong. I was thinking as l watched you set up camp, geez l hope the wind doesn't blow while you're there it'll blow you back home, then again the price you pay to camp with a view. I did a summer up at the fire tower back in 94 when the old timber building was there. One of the best views in the VHC l reckon. The only job I've done where l got paid to gaze out the window and not get in trouble by the boss !!! Maybe Tim this time of year try and stay in a few of the huts, l can think of a few in lower elevation areas. Cheers Tony

Interesting to see how you cope with the Australian winter! For a bloke from the other side of the planet, this was new and made me reflect on the matter. Of curiosity, I searched for information on the diesel classes for Australia, and Victoria in particular, and the cloud point/ambient temperature requirements they have to meet are (ref. Australian AS 3570 standard): for Victoria, Jan +9 °C, Feb +6 °C, Mar +3 °C, Apr +1 °C, May-Jul 0 °C, Aug +1 °C, Sep +2 °C, Oct +4 °C, Nov +6 °C, Dec +8 °C. That doesn't give you much leeway, in the Victoria high country winter! No wonder you prefer to mix your own fuel. Good thinking, so you always come well prepared! In comparison, here in Norway the diesel fuels must comply with the EN 590 CFPP standard and depends on which climate region of the country: for the alpine regions south of the Arctic Circle the Winter diesel class must meet GO-24 (down to -24 °C), while for the Arctic region of 66th to 71st parallel North, Arctic diesel class GO-32 (down to -32 °C) is delivered at the service stations. Below -32 °C, and the diesel starts to coagulate, if we don't mix the fuel some extra like you do to avoid having engine start problems to deal with. 4x4s in the Nordic countries come with larger alternators and larger batteries with more cold-cranking Amps, as standard. At very low temperatures, we put a cover in front of the radiator (e.g. makeshift cardboard sheet) to avoid cooling the engine too much and to bring up the temperature of the cabin heater. Using the correct engine oil (viscosity for cold climate), apply extra lubrication in locks and hinges, cleaning and applying silicone lubricant on all rubber door seals, refill with winter class washer fluid, these are also important to remember before the winter arrives up here. Waxing and polishing the paint in autumn is also a good idea, because washing the car is practically impossible during some very cold weeks of winter. (...And yes, some of us enjoy winter camping). Thank you for this video, Tim. Great stuff!
