@@denisedaly2307 No, you wouldn’t have accepted it and toughed it out in the rain. You know why? Because you were at home eating Doritos and watching Netflix while SOLO and the rest of us were out bushcrafting.

@Orange Scout Dude you sound very angry and judgemental. I was joking about the rain inside his tent and he understood me. I watch these videos because I love the wild camping and harsh weather. I watch so many bushcraft and outdoor channels because I love the lifestyle. I'm sorry you misunderstood me and made angry judgements about me coz they hurt and are wrong.

I’m sure SOLO didn’t make this video just so you would “get it.” He was setting up a survival shelter….in the rain. Sometimes people get caught in a deluge in the wilderness and they need a hasty or improvised shelter to get out of the elements. He did that….shelter from rain and wind. He isn’t “glamping” and he isn’t nestled into a KOA campground. He’s out practicing some bushcrafting and filming it for people to see. It’s not complicated. If you don’t like….switch it back over to WWF wrestling videos.

It can be wet in the wilderness; it seldom rains in the living room when you’re sitting on the couch. My observation was something different; I saw a guy out doing something; having an adventure, living a life and bush crafting in his own way and filming it all for our benefit. He even kept it real and left in the mishaps with the ridge pole so we could see it. That downpour was damn near biblical….I give this guy serious props for putting that shelter up under those conditions. He even took the time to carve out a rain canal which is a time honored bushcraft practice. It was a well done, real world example of what it can be like to solo in the wild. Also, as soggy as it was…it was a heck of a lot better than weathering the storm outside, life-saving in fact in an emergency. It was a suitable and capable shelter that kept the wind and rain off. That style of shelter is designed to be used with a fire in front of it. It’s a variation of a Whelen style design that is common to bushcrafters because it is compact and easy to pitch

It's about the challenge, Carie, not that I'm into it (been there, done that).

It sounds like you are knocking the wind out of this guys sails............don't forget " What goes around, comes around " !!! I think that people have to start somewhere and obviously he is still in the learning faze and I wouldn't be criticising him if I were you. And yes, you have a right to your opinion but what you wrote, wasn't very nice.

I’ve set up in the rain dozens of times. I’ve been out for 2 or 3 days with little more than a tarp and a wool blanket. Bushcrafting isn’t for everyone. It’s about learning to survive outside with minimal gear and being innovative with designs and natural resources. Guys like SOLO don’t go out in the wilderness with 70 pounds of “glamping gear”. Did you see the size of his pack? They might have an axe, a saw, a knife, some rope and a tarp. They go light so they can travel farther faster. They practice in the woods and on beaches, in deserts and in the snow so they can acquire the requisite skills to live comfortably in the wild the way our ancestors did. It’s a noble pursuit, and it may be a valuable one someday. This man took the time to share his adventure with us…he put that shelter up so we could all see it. It’s not your kind of fun but it is his kind of fun…happens to be mine too.
