It's ideal if you have a guide from tourism office. Though it a blessing indisguise that you see on your own the real people in marawi. The driver that brought you to marawi that charged 1500 is little bit greedy. But it happens to any tourist any place in the world. Cheers ,@@marcoroams

I am from Marawi City, glad that you had a chance to visit there. It's a friendly city but it is inevitable that there will be an exploiter. Can't believe that he charged you 1500. Sorry you experienced that. Next time try to visit other municipalities around the lake, there's more to see. Hope you have a good time there, be safe brother!

@@yelliexplorer I didn't know that Lake View Hotel (Marco's accommodation) accepts guests for a night. It's a good option because you have a view of the lake, but I think it's located in a secluded area. There are no nearby restaurants. I suggest you check in at the Ridge Hotel or Marawi Ayala Resort Hotel. I think it's safer, closer to restaurants, and you can easily get access to city landmarks. Regarding the guide, you should go and ask the local tourism office at the city hall.

I know right .. a lot of people Getting angry at me on Facebook saying I’m trying to make him out to be a scammer when he’s not.. they are all saying he said “Deretxo” which apparently means that because I am a foreigner I would not want to wait and I paid for all empty seats 🤷🏽 Does this sound right to you or they making excused for him? Would love to know your thoughts as a Filipino 🙌🏽

@@marcoroams My step father is british, whenever he travel here and visit us, he always tell us stories like that, usually taxi drivers from the airport. But when we’re with him, no one’s trying to take advantage of him, not even the grab drivers. They’re very common here.

it's not easy to get to the dangerous places, unless that's what you're visiting for and are actually chasing the danger. like the whole place is surrounded by water so you can't just venture into some really bad place by accident.@@touchdown8769

NO GO ZONE - A no go zone is a region where many governments from around the world deem to be too dangerous to travel to. This means they cannot help you under most circumstances and things like travel insurance become void. However, based on what you can see in this video, you will see the friendliness and how welcoming the city really is and how this “no-go zone” is really a city of strength and resilience. Please do not take offence to this title. I am merely quoting what we are warned by our governments.

Thank you for coming to Marawi and for saying it's the friendliest city you've been to. It's indeed true. Maranao people are so hospitable. They will assist you when you need it without hesitation. I'm from Marawi. I actually experienced how terrible was the situation during that time. We've escaped Marawi a day after the siege started and now we are staying here in Iligan. Somehow we manage to survive. Why don't you come to Iligan City? A lot of displaced people from Marawi are here.

I was in Marawi four days after the war broke as a volunteer, feeding children and monitoring their health status inside rescue camps and evacuation centers. Fly every week to and from Marawi for almost a year. I remember the days we needed to run because of the rain of bullets, hide when bombs exploded, and have tight security checkpoints. It was like a ghost town, especially at dusk. You can hear a lot of murmuring, crying, and grieving everywhere. I witnessed the falling of the minaret, went inside the grand mosque, and crawled underground, where the terrorists once slept. I got a chance to interview the Captive Priest, Father Chito, before he passed away (peace be upon him). He explained to me what happened to all of them while underground, how they fetch their food at night, and how one of the servants of the church died.

That van guy ripped you off, oftentimes called the "Tourist Tax", it's the same for domestic tourists who are unfamiliar or first time with the area. All I can say is, it's probably better to pay that than getting kidnapped though.

in fairness to the driver, as he couldn't express himself very well. so let's see the pros & cons. he took the initiative to move out for the trip with 2 empty passenger seats at the back & 3 in the middle. that's 5 pax(or 6 passengers including marco for Php1'500 = P250 each). maybe it's still high-way, but those empty seats gave marco the space and freedom to have an almost 360 degree panoramic view for the rest of the trip. another was the drop-off point which am sure was not the common terminal location for as such passenger van or the like. last but not the least was the spice of the these vid clips: a rip-off balanced by the friendliness of the locals . . lolz . . anywaiz p1500 is just a cartoon of canned beer for marco back down under.

You are very brave! When I worked in Iligan City in the 80s, I didn't have the gall to visit and perhaps enjoyed Marawi. I know that rebuilding in a war zone is hard because of unexploded ordnance cleanups, but I never expected the meager development to be this much. Thanks for the update, and be safe. 😂 I’ve always, wanted to go here. You have to remember the amounts of daily stabbings in The UK each day .. that stuff doesn’t happen here, other things do, you just have to get in and out like I did before news spreads to the wrong person.
