Jazz is pure and this why I'm here. Pure music is very hard to play especially for guitarist. You don't see a jazz guitarist yelling around he is a guitar hero. They just put their head down, play and humble.

You don't see them yell around they are a guitar hero because they're not showmen. Most jazz musician gets too absorbed in their playing. That's why a lot of people who can't understand jazz don't go to see jazz musicians. Whereas in music like in rock, a lot of people go to see rock bands even if they don't know how to play guitar or know music theory because in rock music -specially in live rock music, a big part is the performer to audience connection. Jazz musicians play for themselves and the music, "guitar heroes" play for the people.

Not always true. Many are jumping, squatting, making dumb faces, staring off into space, looking at the other players with that smug, self-ingratiating look as it to say ~ "did you see how great that was?" No, am not a fan of many of the antics prevalent today. Just play with authenticity, humbleness, and correct notes in meter.

Master guitarist right there. Thing I love most of all is the guitar speaks to me. All the little incidental squeaks & buzz of the frets and the tone. It's just part of the instrument and the way it wants to play. Pay attention to the perfect timing on everything Andy plays. That's some unbelievable playing right there. It's from the heart & it's evident in his playing. Superb.

@@babinm I do when there are no effects to hide behind. I have played for many years myself and I can tell you that to my ear, it's just his guitar plugged straight into the amp, mixed with a mic directly in front of his guitar. (actually just confirmed that in the description) Perhaps a tiny bit of reverb but that's about it.

I thought a lot of guitarists, especially classical, work hard to avoid the squeak sounds which turn off a lot of listeners. Btw I don’t hear them here but when you said “what I live most” I had to ask why. Isn’t the squeaky sound of fingers over round wound strings the reason that string makers made flat ones. I bought a set of flatwound strings for my classical guitar and I’m hoping I can reduce my squeak sound.

Bossa Nova can be considered as a Jazz sub-genre. Now If you are talking about American Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Gypsy Jazz or other genres, Bossa Nova is mainly characterized and differs more by its rhythm. Bossa Nova's rhythm is highly influenced by Samba, which at the same time is highly influenced by African rhythms. - Google

From an interview with Andy: I usually play through a Peavy Bandit - it seems to give me a warm, rich sound that I can't get out of a tube amp of the same size. A Vibrolux I sometimes use seems to distort at too quiet a volume for me... I've tried Evans, Polytone - they're great, but the Peavy gives me the most tube-like sound, with the extra headroom... plus it's only worth like $60 so I can keep it in the trunk of my car which actually makes a big difference.

When I first got my brand new 65 twin back in April. I did experience a lot of hiss. I took it to an amp repair shop and they replaced a tube and cleaned it up (all under warranty). Now almost all the hiss gone and can't be heard on low volumes. When you hit around volume 5 or more, there will be some noise, but it's a volume I never touch even with a full band. I usually play with the volume around 2.5 and with the reverb on 2. Not much noise at all on that setting.

I have listened to Andy playing his guitar for us in this video for several years. I keep coming back. In fact I guess I have played this video more than any other. he plays so mellow and he puts me in a very good mood. I also play Jazz guitar, every day for many years in my home. Andy enriches my life!

When phrasing is this sensational, a guitar doesn’t need to repeat itself so much like other genres

I like it. Just wish there was an oboe soloist playing with him. Sonething magical about an oboe. Oboe sounds like elbow and we have elbows, which adds to the fascination we all share for the oboe.

Yes. Pure highly developed talent. Brilliant. When you have developed the fingers and thumb on your right hand to communicate with your left hand in that way it gives you so many options. He’s a real pro. Tip your cap. This level doesn’t happen overnight. If I lived nearby I would have been in that audience.

Those old Peavey tube amps from the 1980s sounded way better than their price tag suggested they should sound, and they were rock-solid bulletproof too. Great playing!
