WARNING: Crossing a large body of water alone as shown in this video involves a fair amount of risk. Weather can change, equipment can break down and accidents can happen leaving you alone and far from help. ANY ADVENTURE OR EXPEDITION YOU TAKE BASED UPON THIS VIDEO IS STRICTLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. Plan carefully. Use the right equipment. And for the highest margin of safety, travel with a partner.

@@jeffwalther3935 Talk about an exercise in prolixity! You mention comfort first. How is a helmet comfortable? The Great Lakes aren't salt water by the way. And how many bugs are flying around that far from shore? Personally, I love feeling the wind blow over my face and hair.

I rode jet skis across Lake Michigan, from Sheboygan to Ludington, with a group of guys in the late 90's. My friend and I were riding 1997 Yamaha 700's. The weather was great going there, and we when we stopped to refuel in the middle, we even went for a quick swim. But, after lunch in Ludington, we tried to make it back and fought 3-5' rollers and a head wind. A couple hours of not making much headway, we gave up and headed back to Ludington. The town graciously made provisions for our group to stay in drydock sailboats for the night. By morning, 3 members of the group had decided they didn't want to make the return trip and had called for someone to drive around the lake overnight and pick them up. The final 3 of us pushed on and made it back. Return trip was rough and took almost 6 hours. Old gps technology was more like a digital compass, and would only let us check our direction when we stopped, so we ended up zig zagging all the way back. Came ashore at Manitowoc and followed shoreline back south to Sheboygan. I wish we would have had the weather you did. Yours actually looked like a nice ride.
@rodneybrocke
@rodneybrocke 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story. I was a bit worried that my trip back to Charlevoix would be like your return trip, but I was fortunate that the good weather held. Without GPS it would have been a much harder trip because I would have had only compass headings to maintain course and they are not very precise. All in all it was a very memorable trip, as I’m sure yours was!

my brother in-law and I launched my 15' aluminium sled at a marina to go about 2 miles to the mouth of nisqually river too go salmon fishing. it was rather foggy. so I hugged the shore line looking for a point where the mouth was located. there was a old crappy boat ramp a guy I knew was launching his big day cruiser for crabbing. told him where I was heading he says " got a compass" I say no. how difficult can it be. he says "good luck. I putted along real slow looking, could hardly see my brother in-law in the bow on occasions 10 ft away. after about what seemed like 2 hrs. the fog lifted enough I could see the marina we launched at. the incoming tide had pushed us all the back. I considered ourselves pretty lucky

May we meet on that wonderful day; - before start or after finish line, and not in between, at sea, racing (against each other, that is) at full cruise, 45+ kt.s/h, bent fer leather, bound for, or from, Chicago and Milwaukee, 90 miles as the crow sails! OR lakecrossing Milwaukee and Muskegon 120 miles, straight as an arrow or even a circuit, in the same day and/or night, rally style.

In 2015 we took 2 jetskis from Leland, MI to Sister Bay, WI and a 25' Boston Whaler accompanied us with extra fuel, etc. We went between the Manitou Islands and had 2 days of great weather and spent the night in Sister Bay to return the next morning. We left about 7:30 am and arrived in Sister Bay around 10:00 am, topped off our fuel and tied up all 3 vessels to one slip. It was a blast -- there were 5 of us .. 3 slept on the boat and 2 of us in a motel room. Great fun!

Definitely something to consider. This type of tripping in every way is comparable and BETTER to motorcycle and airplane camping as here you can nose into any ENTIRELY or not, secluded beach inlet and with suitable supplies party, recharge, refuel, rest and prepare for the next legs, entirely well planned better and further - for peanuts.

@@rodneybrocke ". . . (M)ore than the sum of it's parts, . . ." makes "this" single idea - a father of all invention, if you will, MGTOW. My brothers and I summed it up here with " . . . In sum, list and gather together Everything every-day humans need to maximally travel long-straight, reliable and variable as can be, narrow passage, distances, OVER WATER is, all things considered pointing obviously, straight as can be at this stunningly profoundly important invention/idea/concept. Further such are almost all off-the-shelf is easily modified-reverse-engineered, here and there, i.e., all easily-imagined and surely done too. The practical equivalent, then the Jetson motorcycles, as is the "jet-ski" to the aquatic motorcycle, are/is just within grasp! is my point(s).

@@rodneybrocke Herewith, one can instantly go "where No one goes", as well as where "no one ever has gone before" for that matter - go where THESE babies can ALSO and AS WELL as, theoretically go, while you're entirely the only person who could, ever or CAN quite get there so well too! THAT alone is stunning to consider and wonderful bargain in all of this single concept and idea too!

I have noticed this about Lake Michigan. I live near Saginaw Bay and the water has a different look. It's more brownish green and not as clear, probably from algae growth and silt carried down from the rivers. Lake Michigan water is very clear and has a "Caribbean blue" hue. You can really see this in my North Fox Island video about 2.5 minutes in, when I fly over Fox Island looking straight down, it has that special blue color.
