Raspberry Rock - Off Grid Cabin

Raspberry Rock - Off Grid Cabin

7 жыл бұрын

Eating steak, working on the deck, hauling more building materials, cutting down trees (and finding a massive ant farm), enjoying the natural beauty of the great outdoors, framing the first floor, putting on the 2nd floor. Lots of stuff in this video. Oh, I forgot shooting the .22 with my kid and watching the beavers.
Added bonus: some great drone footage of the cabin and the beaver pond.

I am still amazed you lifted those walls all by yourself! I lifted mine alone too in 12 foot sections but I only put 4 studs and 1 piece of plywood on them to keep them square. That was heavy as I could clean and jerk by myself ! After the wall was up, I added the remaining studs and window framing. The drone footage is really neat! I'll have to find a friend who has one, so I can borrow it for the weekend. Either that or climb a tree ! Will raise another beer to you tonight.

Thanks. It's a little scary doing it by yourself, amiright? Btw, the link to your blog in your "About" section is misspelled!

Thanks Macca. The drone captures some really interesting views of the cabin that are just impossible to get any other way. Unfortunately, not my drone.

I started watching your vids with the semi viral one that popped off I think last week where you have to walk part of the way back out to your vehicle after a huge snow dump, I like to go back and start from the beginning when I can when I find someone has done something like you have, built your own place, so I can see how the whole thing came together, I'm always tempted to keep watching new as they pop up but I try to stay the course and keep watching from from the very beginning in sequential order...I think this is the first video I hear the ground track that I also heard in your more recent video... I'm looking forward to watching as this all comes together, when your wife first goes on camera ( I saw her in the video I watched where the dogs were so so excited to see her! Well and you of course!) ...I was surprised to a "kid" pop up in this video, so I guess you have children- or at least one...so many things to learn as I go along on this journey. I live in the Hamilton Area, Ontario. We are looking to a little hobby farm and become sort of "mini/ lite preppers" , lol...I see your solar panels - my husband is VERY keen to get these going when we finally find a new place :)

for standing a wall by your self here is how it can be done ... secure a 14 foot 4by4 to the floor but tight to the top plate and brace it so it wont fall over .... secure a board behind it so when its under pressure and tiping at the angle of the wall the bottom wont kick out ...screw an eye bolt int the 4by4 a bout a foot up ... attach a comealong to the eyebolt and run the cable up over the top of the 4by4 and back to the wall.rig the cable up so there is noway for the cable to come off the top . now you can jack the wall up with the comealong ...they make metal walk jacks that work like that .... you can go to google image to see what im talking about and how they work or you can also buy a wall jack for about 100 bucks that works like a handyman jack but slides up a 2by4 . if you opt for that kind make sure the 2by4 dont have big nots that will break under pressure

i dont know if you have your siding on or not yet but when i was building houses with decks after i built the wall with the subsiding on i would attach 3 inch by 4 inch galvanized flashing to the wall and ontop of the deck joist run the vapor barrier over the flashing on the wall and put the decking on over the flashing ...i have also put the flashing ontop of the decking but in that case i would use 3 inch by 2 inch ... both ways have there plus and minus

With your 12ft section, and next 12ft section, and 4ft section ---why didn't you divide the lot into 3 sections and lift 9ft 4ins in the 3 lots? Was there a reason?
