I just graduated from high school and want a big challenge in life. I decided that I alone with only hand tools and raw power was going to build my own off grid traditional log cabin by hand in the Swedish forest.
In this episode I am building the walls of the log cabin. I am showing you how it can be done using only simple hand tools.
If you wish to follow me on this journey, from forest to off grid log cabin, then click the link to subscribe: kzfaq.info...

Well done Erik, the cabin is coming on nicely, you are an inspiration to all especially to the youth of today which they seem to lack what you have. I am very proud of you and congratulate you for doing what you are.

As I watch this series, one of the things I'm struck by is the conservation of energy/movement displayed; your patience is evident in every motion and movement. Very little brute force is used, letting the tools do the work. I appreciate the very methodical approach to quality workmanship!

Building a Scandinavian scribe fit log home is a true labor of love. I know because I helped a friend of mine build three separate homes in as many years using 16”-18” logs in Washington State when I was in my early twenties. I am now sixty five. Congratulations Erik, you’re doing a fine job!!!

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🏆🏆🏆🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼Considering you were 18 when you started makes this project even more impressive. Not many 18 year old guys in the world who could correctly build a log cabin in the woods from start to finish with only hand tools and nothing electrical! Not even using a chainsaw to cut and size the logs! The list of accomplishments you’ve racked up at your young age is nothing short of spectacular. Handsome, intelligent, good common sense, resourceful… if you’re not already taken I imagine you could pick from quite a huge number of girls who would consider themselves fortunate to catch your eye. I wish you God’s blessings on all your future endeavors including that someday you find your other half who is just as able, accomplished and impressive as you❤

The peaceful quiet work of a young man of great patience, skill, and inner fortitude. I have been doing axe and knife work ever since picking up Wille Sundqvists book "Swedish Carving Techniques" over 30 years ago in a woodworking shop in NY, and even spent a week & a half with Wille and wife Gunnel on his farm over 20 years ago in North Sweden. Very proud of you, Erik. Rare to see a young man with the old soul of the craftsman\builder with such quietness in his soul.

Hi Erik! I've recently stumbled upon your channel. I'm completely caught up on all your episodes... And I have to say that's it's really nice to see a person of your generation doing what you're doing! It may all be the hard way of doing things, but there's more appreciation that comes with it! The felling of the trees and peeling of the logs to you foundation and log work (and notching)... They all look great! The person who taught you must be a very knowledgeable and impressive person! Can't wait to see more videos! You're doing great! Always watching from Sault ste Marie Ontario!

Erik, You are a very determined and talented young man. Yet please remember to put Glasses on your Eyes? You are working cutting timbers in the forest and shall need to see the fruits of your labor for a Lifetime. At 10:15 in the Video an Old Timer once said "Give me a Lever and I can move the Earth." It will help save strain on your Back.

Yes thank you for your wisdom! I will use safety glasses in the future. I have also learnt that you should try to lift the logs as few times as possible. Instead try to drag, roll and use a lever. I to have noticed that it is much better to use a lever in that situation you pointed out. Thanks for your concern, always appreciated. 👍

what's so cool about your videos is to be able to show a complete record of the build for the future, from harvesting the trees to the physical effort to elevate them to height to build the structure, its a really great effort, i for one appreciate what it takes to shift heavy objects on your own, i love solving those problems of how to shift things how and where, getting round obstacles, its a mighty challenge and worth all the effort, not only that you'll be able to show the grand kids where you got arms like Popeye - super build, now where's the sauna going?

Well Erik im back at it again. I am so impressed with your work. I have built two cabins one 40 years ago that is hewn not chinkless. about 20 years ago I taught a class in log cabin building to seniors in high school. We made a 16 by 16 foot chinkless cabin with a half loft. looked a lot like the one your building. I was very concerned about safety so we did 90 percent of the cutting and shaping of the logs on the ground. We had a gin pole in the center of the cabin that could rotate around and lift logs on any side. we raised the logs into place to scribe them and then lowered then when we were cutting channels on the log. I think it actually saved time because they were working on the ground and not up in a dangerous position. The students learned to mark carefully so they didn't have to repeat the process. When they rolled the log into place you knew if it fit well by the "clunk" sound it made. I hope I am not offending you with all this advice. Oh after we finished the cabin we marked the logs with a code and auctioned it off. the new owner moved it and made it into a guest house. It still looks good. We visited Sweden about 10 years and we enjoyed the people and all the history. What part of Sweden are you located in???

Hi. I'm enjoying these videos extremely. I'd like to comment on some of the things that people have been saying in the replies. Everyone seems to be so amazed at how young you are. The thing is, it sounds almost like they think that nobody can accomplish anything until they reach a certain age. I grew up surrounded by people my own age who worked alongside me pulling their fair share and learning as they went. No problem. We started doing hard work at a very early age and learnd skills as we needed to. Another thing people keep mentioning is that you should wear eye protection. Okay, if that works for you, wear it. But for centuries workers have accomplished great tasks before eye protection ever existed. I myself am distracted by things like that. When it's time to work I get right to it - no eye protection, no gloves, no shirt. Find what works for you but let others do the same. All right, back to work now, everybody!

Eric I built a log cabin 40 years ago and I made a gin pole to help lift the logs into place because I was working alone. I think that you could really use the gin pole idea. I have several youtubes posted 3 years ago. log cabin building-tour and the one that shows the gin pole is logcabin building-step by step laying up the logs. after you get several more layers of logs up you need a safe way to handle the logs. please take a look You are doing great !!!
