SO EXCITED FOR TODAY"S VIDEO!!!!!! Thanks for posting!!!! - Great video going back to the basics!!! ....OUTSTANDING AF!!! I find that every video, whether it's 3min or it's 30min, is the perfect video length to learn something from. Thanks for your tireless commitment to this channel with all the ups n downs and to sharing all your skills! You are very inspiring for me to get outside as much as I can, despite the weather!

Dude thank you for saying “bring what the hell you want” instead of “whatever works for you” as a default. The fact that there’s no perfect way to do this is part of the fun. The armchair warriors go nuts over what’s “right n wrong”

Oh so true. And as an older guy who's done a bit of actual primitive camping or bushcrafing way before it was generally called the later I agree. I was never a boy scout, take that either way. But I grew up out in the country having to make do. So yeah the armchair/ keyboard types annoy me a bit.

Matie- love this. I was born in London 1966. Moved to Shropshire. aged 6. It was Awesome- totally rural - the hanging tree etc . I learned cooking , hunting , wildlife from people who lived in a " squatter cottage " in the woods. They did the farm work. Going to a well , getting the water getting kindling, wood , making a fire and making tea in that house. AWESOME - sadly everything is gone and built on now A Squatters cottage is now in Blists Hill museum in Telford , Shropshire. Uk . I can honestly say at grand old age of 56 , I go with kids, nephews, neices etc. I cry when I go in and come out of that place. Lovely memories and total respect that they were living like that in UK in the 1970 and 1980s We have lost so much Respect Matie

You probably don’t have time to read these; but, these videos are really helpful. I find all your builds, bushcraft, non-bushcraft builds, etc. to be very entertaining. I watch them for the entertainment value. Videos like these are great though because I’m sure there are a lot of people like me, who served in the Army for 20+ years and picked up a lot of bad fieldcraft habits… or good habits for a tactical setting but horrible in civilian applications. I learn something every single time that helps my civilian primitive camping outings be just that much better. In short; thanks!

My daughter is just now beginning to show some real interest in survival, bush craft, and camping and hunting. For so long, she didn't want anything to with going into the woods with myself and her big brother. She is 18 now, I don't know what the spark was that got her interested, I'm just glad that she has caught the "I love being I the woods bug" after trying to get her outdoors with us for years. As a matter of preference and convenience, I always have a poncho & a poncho liner. I have found that with those 2 items, you can survive most weather situations, combined with other things [combustion, etc.]. Somewhat warm and somewhat dry is a much better scenario. Had to get a new sheath for my Kabar and the loop is smaller. Small tube of suoperglue goes a long way for emergency 1st aid. I prefer having dehydrated beef jerky and/or dehydrated fruits on hand. I can grab a gallon bag of it and go, almost no weight, eat on the move and sustain me in the short run.

Happy Easter. I like to carry a pair of light leather gloves with my kit. It helps with preventing punctures, scrapes and cuts while performing various bushcraft jobs. O the wait side, a few paper coffee filters for straing water, coffee..backup combustible material, put tem in a zip lock style bag, put a couple more zip locks in if you want. Minimal weight and storage space in your pack and lots of redundant uses for the bags.

One thing I have noticed about most sewing kits is that they give you a rainbow of thread colors, but they usually skimp on the quality of the thread. Check your thread to make sure it doesn't break easily. I keep upholstery thread in my mending kit. Not pretty, but you can sew heavier, tighter weaves without breaking your thread.

I think this length video is just about right for your style. It gives you time to teach/instruct/explain while you demonstrate. In this case I especially liked the 'classroom' to practical application transition - plus I honestly like seeing the interior of the off grid cabin. This video reminded me a little of the series your mentor Dave Canterbury did from what I think he called a 'hunter's cabin'. If I remember right that series was a little more geared toward showing gear and other things to set up a more permanent/base type location that would be used year after year during hunting season, etc. so it isn't like you are copying that series there is just something of the same 'feel' which I think is good. The classroom gives you a chance to slow down and give more details than you can maybe give while you are digging a fire pit, etc
