the only problem i have with my solo stove ranger is that when your sat down you obviously do not see the fire inside but the big benefit is the lake of smoke, mine does still smoke a bit but when i go indoors my partner never ever tells me i stink of smoke. i think i read on the solo stove web site that you can have it in a hole in the ground as long as you have at lease a 3" gap around the stove, i would like to see a video of a solo stove burning like that, i would try it with mine but i know as soon as a dug a hole i would say "why did you dig it there you fool" and then end up digging holes all over the place and sooner or later i would fall in to one of them at night after a few beers. thank you for the great video gentlemen

I will try shorter pieces of wood that will lie down horizontally to see if it starts more easily. I may also try two logs of "standard" length crossed so that the wood remains below the fire ring. I just received the Bonfire 2.0. Really excited about using it!
@megaweasel706
@megaweasel706 2 жыл бұрын
from what i understand it seems almost paradoxical how it uses wood, yes it burns more fuel faster but it's more efficient so the wood gets hotter and therefore stays hotter longer. so while it might take more fuel to maintain a big roaring fire you'll get so much more use of the same amount of wood it's net loss is negligible if any

suppose to keep logs under circle of holes at the top for the 360 smokeless affect

Biggest issue I see with the Solo Stove is that it doesn't radiate heat at the lower level like other pits. So most of your heat is going straight up and not out. Not a big deal unless you are in the cooler temps and want the radiated heat to keep you warm without being on top of the stove.

Yes. Very true. We noticed that the ranger is lower and actually does a better job with lateral heat. We have also been testing the head deflector, and will put up a review soon. Thanks for tuning in!

Hi from the UK, great review, I’ve just bought the solo stove bonfire, as sick of the smoke from my usual firepit. I’m also planning on buying the top heat deflector once it launches in late may 2022, as that will put the heat out sideways which will be great if your sitting down around the stove.

@@Rlea67 I wonder if some makeshift DIY contraption could be rigged up for the purpose. I'd suppose all that's needed is an angled plate to be heated to by the rising air and radiate the IR towards you.

Can you burn yard or garden waste? Like fresh and old vines and vegetable plants that are done for the season? Thanks for making the video. Have a Great Day

How well does the ash cleaning go with the Cast Master, since the bottom is not removable?
@Steven-wz7sh
@Steven-wz7sh Жыл бұрын
@@sadfur8728 You just flip it upside down. There is very little ash left. I put mine in a flower garden. The only think that's a pain is the platform gets crooked sometimes and slightly stuck when i turn it right side up again.
@sadfur8728
@sadfur8728 Жыл бұрын
@@Steven-wz7sh Now it might be fun to clear the ashes with compressed air. That would be reminiscent of the memorial ceremony for Donny in The Big Lebowski. 😜 What platform is it that gets crooked? Isn't it all one piece other than the charcoal grid and cooking rack?
@Steven-wz7sh
@Steven-wz7sh Жыл бұрын
@@sadfur8728 no. The is a raised platform below where you place the wood. It allows for air to come up and create the double burn. I really like mine. Now that I havea knack for it, I keep it from happening when emptying. Gloves help it it wedges in funky. Wouldnt be a deal breaker for me.

Opps... the platform is the area where you place the wood. It is below the charcoal grate.

These type of stoves hide the sight of the fire. A 29 inch metal bowl on a one foot high bowl-stand gives full reveal of the fire and casts heat and fire light down at your feet and shins.Clean up is easy, you just pick up the bowl and tip the ash, then stow it until next time. Price is as low as 60 bucks. I dont get it with these firepit stoves, what is the point?

I have not tried a bowl on a stand. Thanks for the tip. A fire is a mesmerizing thing to watch and the solo stove produces one of the most beautiful flames I have even seen. The main benefit is little to now smoke. Also, once it is up to temperature you can drop wet logs in and they will burn without and stoking.

Super easy to light, Burns completely, does put off quite a bit of heat, and the coolest thing is, very little smoke.

I am planning to buy a solo stove because my daughter has asthma and the smokeless feature is more appealing than a traditional FirePit. Additionally my understanding is that these really burn to ash for an easy cleanup.

Yes, when you have a fire outside almost all of the heat is radiant so if you can’t see the flame you ain’t getting warm. As you say, with the solo stove a lot of the fire is hidden so the heat that is generated never gets to you. I need a fire on a raised surface and the solo stove was pretty much useless unless I constantly stocked it so it had a big flame and then it used a ton of wood very quickly. An aluminium heat reflector helped but it sooted up very quickly.
