For this overnighter I try out a tarp in the woods, and had a special visit from a pair of Roe Deer. Plus a not-so-special visit from a gang of crazy mozzies. A really lovely night, loved getting a bit of rain on the tarp too :D
My new gear in this video (tarp, bivi and a monopod trekking pole) are all things that I have bought myself to either lighten my load, give me more camping options or help with filming:
DD Superlight tarp. Seems good, it is thin as you would expect, but doesn't feel like it's gonna rip. I actually ripped my cheapo tarp the first time I used it for a camp, so be interesting to see how long it takes me to rip this one haha
Alpkit Bivi Bag. I had already borrowed a friends Hunka XL for the bluebells overnighter ( • Stealth Bivi Bluebells... , really liked it so I've gone for the same one. I've never used any other bivi bag so can't compare it, but from my experience so far: it's light, robust, and I've not had any condensation in it (yet) - will keep you updated as I use it more in different conditions.
MBC Monopod trekking pole (from China as I couldn't find anything like that here in UK). For normal hiking I prefer my Fizan Compact poles, but for filming, being able to mount my camera on a trekking pole is awesome. I only got 1 of these poles, so I'll be using it like a walking stick on rough terrain for a bit of extra stability & to test out the ground for holes etc
Thank you so much for watching 😊 Much love, Claire 🌿🐻

Hi Guys! Thanks for stopping by this lil tarp viddy, really enjoyed this overnighter, despite the bugs! I’m hoping to be setting off on a lil 2-night adventure tomorrow (Friday), eeak! Weather looks pretty dodgy again but it is what it is. So have a wonderful weekend, see you when I’m back :D I’M A LIL BIT EXCITED 🤗🌿🐻

Essex, Ontario Canada... really like all your videos. There are so many U.K. KZfaqrs and videographers; hard to watch them all. But upon finding you a while back, you are proof that yes, scenery is nice, but the person, the attitude & character are the best things. Thank you! And by the way, there is no perfect way to do something... no way that is 'supposed to be' or 'must be'. If a set-up works for you then it is perfect!

By the way its best to keep the tarp hanging from the rideg line Claire because having it draped over will wear it out in no time....nylon on nylon is a no no it creates a lot of friction...you can actually cut a nylon rope in no time with another pice of nylon rope by doing a see saw action ! You learn something every day :)

Well done I have never tarp camped in the woods' before because of having to wrap your self up and head net and sweaty and cant breathe well in the humidity and head net so absolutely well done! this time of year like right now, in these temperature's knowing there's 0% chance of rain I like to just take an under mat and airbed, and a crappy cheap superlight weight 3 season bag sleeping bag that does not keep you warm what so ever, on the cliffs where there is enough warm breeze to keep the mossies' etc away! actually with my bad back you have given me an idea I want to go wild camping but my sprained back is terrible, I might just sleep on the cliffs with my gas boiler (as I love my marmite tea in the morning) and comfort food in evening! light food and salad and mayo mushrooms and vege ham and snacks I can hang on a hiking pole without a stopper at bottom! fairy lights and hopefully get some good starlight!

Thank you for taking the time to make such joyful videos. My two cents on the practice of bivies: If I use a WPB bivy, it would only be a night or two, like you, but I would never use it with a down bag as temperatures get colder and or humidity gets higher. Down is not good with condensation as it loses its ability to keep you warm and must be dried out, daily which is difficult on rainy days.

@@WildBeare - I had to watch that bit a few times, but you can just see the antlers of both bucks at certain points in the video. They're normally reckoned to start their rutting season in mid-July, but that was certainly a bit of territorial behaviour. So maybe in the lead up to it.

DD makes some good stuff. Versatile too with a lot of it for various set ups. A good way for that tarp is a triangle where part is below you, folded up to a rear wall and then again for the canopy front. Helps with the wind and you can tuck the foot end too for additional enclosure if needed. Also, "whiskeeeeey" lol

New sub here, been watching a while, i like your style and i think you've got the right idea, i went wild camping for a few nights about 15 yrs ago with friends and i'll never forget the feeling of just lying on mother earth facing the stars as the night went by, very healing if your soul needs calm harmony and balance.

Hey Wild One, love how you kept your cool with those frisky deer and you even managed to make the mozzies look as beautiful as they deserve too. Take care and see you on the next one! X
