The Rock saying: “Well the GLOBAL audience wanted to see me versus Reigns but the smaller and more vocal segment of the WWE audience wanted Cody and I didn’t want to upset them.” was the most glaring example of someone trying to rationalize a situation to protect their own ego. He just doesn’t want to admit that the people rejected what he was initially offering them.

The problem here is that when it came to Hollywood over the last few years Dwayne has gotten it handed to him. He kept running up to the higher ups over Black Adam and he basically got tossed aside. The thing he did with Ari Emanual and Nick Kahn he did with the executives with the Black Adam thing and it might've worked had the fans not revolted against the idea of basically, "Screw Cody! We want The Rock." Dwayne assumed the fans would be fine with that. He was wrong on both counts.

I'm glad things worked out the way they did but I really love The Rock & Brian Gewartz delusion in all this 😅😅 1.) The fact that Cody was told he was winning the Royal Rumble and that he would get his main event taken from him (which is the equivalent to telling a kid you're getting a gift you always wanted but it was destroyed upon delivery) & somehow Gewartz thought that Cody should be happy about that somehow 😅😅 2.) They really thought that taking a story that had been built up for over 2 years and just blowing it 2 months before the payoff would have been a good idea 😂😂😂😂

Ahhh...that's not nessicarily true. I honestly think that it came down to the fact that the fans were fping pissed at Dwayne. Go look at his social media around the time that this was happening. Hell,his daughter to delete her social media account because people were torching her dad. It was not pretty! It was not about the politicking. It was about the fans being pissed at Dwayne for thinking he had a right to demand this when he didn't do a fricking thing to earn it. This was a move the Dwayne had made before. He tried th crap with Black Adam and didn't work. He tried it with Ari Emanual and Nick Kahn and while it might've worked it wasn't ever going to. The fans basically hijacked it and would've hijacked the main event and booed Dwayne out of the building.

@@dawnclark4635 No, he has a point. The Rock’s head writer, a goof named Brian Gewirtz, went on Busted Open Radio last month and said he didn’t originally want Cody to win the Rumble because it would have put Cody in play to main event Mania instead of Rock. He actually pitched Punk winning the Rumble, but Hunter overruled him and booked Cody to win instead because he felt that if Cody didn’t win the Rumble, it would damage Cody in the fans’ eyes. By winning the Rumble, it gave Cody legitimacy to challenge Roman at Mania. Which led to fans getting angry when Rock just came out the streets and tried to shove Cody aside to take the main event himself. So Hunter outplayed Rock’s team on the chess board. ♟️

@@Jeff_Pryce I still don't see it that way. How did he outpolitick him when Rock was going over his head to Arie Emanual and Nick Kahn? It didn't matter what Triple H wanted. He would've had to deal with it if the fans had been ignored and they went through with that flippin' travesty of an idea. I really think that what moved this in a different direction was the fact that the fans picked up on Cody's reaction to the situation, the utter lack of basic common sense,and the way things were being done. It seemingly hardly had anything with Triple H outpoliticking Rock and more to do with the fans reaction to the utter stupidity on display by Rock and Braindead Bryan.
@Jeff_Pryce
@Jeff_Pryce 29 күн бұрын
@@dawnclark4635Cody still needed an advocate in the board room. Triple H was that advocate. The fans pushed the direction, but without Triple H making the strategic moves he made to put Cody in a position of legitimacy and strength, it would have been disastrous for Cody. Having Cody win the Rumble gave fans hope that Cody would finish his story; when Rock took it away, fans were furious because it wasn’t fair that Cody WON the Royal Rumble, legitimately earned his main event title match at Mania, yet was being cast aside while Rock, who didn’t even enter the Rumble, suddenly got top billing in the main event of Mania. Triple H recreated the backlash fans felt in 2018 when Becky Lynch worked from scratch for her title shot only to lose it to Charlotte, who was basically gifted the same title shot because “she’s Charlotte Flair.” Thus making Cody seem like the plucky underdog hero while casting Rock as a privileged douche. And the fans did the rest.

CM Punk directly caused the 2 best main events in the history of WrestleMania. If he doesn't walk out, Daniel Bryan doesn't go on to win. I love that, but I wouldn’t put either main event over the mania 20 triple threat, Taker/Michaels 26, Rock/Austin 2, or (and I know I’m in the minority here) the iron man at mania 12. Still Punk has had a surprising level of influence over huge matches he’s not even in.

*"It boggles my mind that you never had Daniel Bryan in your plans to be in the main event of WrestleMania because (2014) is his fucking year... and he deserves it. And you want to give it to Batista and Randy?"* Punk already KNOW how massively over Bryan was ever since that feud with the Authority in 2013 and WWE tried to distance themselves from that storyline when Batista returned, making Bryan feuding with the Wyatt Family, and trying to set up CM Punk vs Triple H in that December. And the original plans for WrestleMania 30 are beyond insulting. You got that Batista vs Randy Orton main event but it's laughable to think that Daniel Bryan, the hottest thing in wrestling in 2013, would face Sheamus is such a good idea.
@Jeff_Pryce
@Jeff_Pryce Ай бұрын
For that and many other reasons, I hold Punk in such high regard. Twice in ten years in huge milestone Wrestlemanias, he altered the landscape and helped deliver a moment that fans REALLY wanted as opposed to what blind suits and ties wanted. The first one was intentional, as he was actively telling Vince the night he walked out that if Punk wasn’t going to get the main event of Wrestlemania, they should have at least given it to Bryan, who was WHITE HOT the last year, and that it was BS that they weren’t even CONSIDERING Bryan for the main event. The second one was more tragic; Punk was back, Vince was gone, his star had become bigger than ever, he was finally recognized as the megastar he is, all the stars had FINALLY aligned for him to achieve his dream of main eventing Wrestlemania, he was right at the 5 yard line…and then one DDT from Drew McIntyre, of all people, ruined everything. It took him out of action as of today until SummerSlam. Yet his injury caused HUGE ripple effects. Aside from giving us the Punk vs Drew feud, the hottest feud in wrestling, it opened the door for Cody to complete one of the most important storylines in many years: FINISHING HIS STORY. Instead of Rock and his goofy writer’s convoluted booking, Cody has now taken his place as the face of the WWE. Rock-Roman will have a BETTER and BIGGER storyline. And Punk will still get the chance to main event Wrestlemania in Las Vegas next April-the site of the Pipebomb, the promo that made him famous-if we avoid any more stupid disasters. 🤞 It would be a beautiful full circle moment. CM Punk: the hero we needed, and deserved. 🫡

@@TheSHIELDCap What gave me respect for Punk was that it would have been very easy for him to just shut up, take the Triple H match and he would have had a HUGE Wrestlemania payday from it since it would have been the second biggest match on the card. But instead, he not only turned the match down, but he advocated for Bryan to get the main event. And he walked away from a multimillion dollar contract to prove his point, forcing them to change their plans. Some greedier wrestlers, like Kevin Nash, would have laughed it off and taken the money. But not Punk.He basically sacrificed his career so that we could see Daniel Bryan get the moment he deserved. And it was one of the best Wrestlemania moments of all time. Thankfully, through a series of small miracles, we got Punk back; and fate may still reward Punk with a Wrestlemania main event of his own next year.😊

Ari Emanual and Nick Kahn are the ones Dwayne was running to and they were probably pushing for this despite what the fans wanted. I honestly think what saved this was Cody going out and looking like a kid who popped out to the catcher during their world champion little league game. When he went out he could not fake it and it's actually a good thing he didn't! I will give Dwayne credit for one thing and that is he leaned into the final boss and allowed them to go back to Cody. If it wasn't for that it would've been The Rock vs Roman and Cody would've been relegated to the match with Rollins or pulled completely. Honestly,with The Rock running up to Ari Emanual and Nick Kahn without talking to Triple H about any of it just strikes me as so disrespectful. All the years,all the matches those two had and you're going to go clear over the head of the guy you had one of your best rivalries with and Dwayne doesn't seem to respect the man enough to say,"Hey. Cody was allegedly told not to point at Roman after he won, he did anyway & then the promo he cut the following Monday. Triple H didn’t want his plans ruined & he was giving Cody multiple opportunities to prove he was super over. Edit: I was unaware of the Logan Paul podcast appearance, Triple H & Cody executed their roles brilliantly

I love that Cody pointed at Roman. On Twitter, they released the audio of that moment. Cody was standing triumphantly on the turnbuckle after winning the Rumble, pointed at Roman with determination blazing in his eyes and declared his intentions, yelling “YOU! YOU! ROMAN REIGNS! *_YOU_* !” And a worried Roman looked at Paul Heyman, who swallowed, whispered “Show him”, and then handed Roman the title. Roman finds his bravado, holds up the title, and shouts back at Cody, “You ain’t _EVER_ going to get this!” Pure. Cinema.

Him rolling up in his limo out of nowhere and inserting himself into a party he was not invited to was disrespectful to Cody and to fans who had waited for Cody to finish his story. I think that HHH has more power than people think. The Rock was brought back for two reasons. One Endeavor thinks they can partner with him in projects in the future and in return he gets his intellectual property to use and have a one year talent contract. Two they're trying to bring back fans that were fans of the Rock Cena etc. years ago. That's the main reason for Cena coming back to due one last run in 2025 to keep the product hot and bring back fans to WWE. The title the Rock has as a member of the board of directors is in name only. After his contract expires in a year or two whatever time frame it is the Rock will go back to Hollywood and maybe come back from time to time.

I don't see it. If he had more power than when Rock was running to Arie Emanual and Nick Kahn they could've just turned to him and said,"Go talk to Paul." or "Did you bring this up with Paul?" I'm not saying Triple H had no power but he doesn't have the level of power that Dwayne has in this situation. He was told,"Well,we're gonna pull apart everything you've done and give Rock the shot at Roman." when he had worked for about a year to fix everything Vince mucked up you have to think that it had to piss him off because there was really nothing he could do. The soul saving grace in all of this was the look on Cody's face as he left the ring that night and the fans reaction to it. If not for that Triple H would've had very few options left to fix the mess that Dwayne tried to make.

This new Rock shoves aside deserving stars like Cody and CM Punk to get what he wants. I’m so proud of how the fans spoke out. Twice in 10 years, we flexed our power. 10 years ago, when Vince tried to shove Daniel Bryan aside for his bogus main event of Batista vs Randy Orton, we spoke out and said “NO! DANIEL BRYAN IS OUR GUY. And you WILL give him the moment he deserves!” 10 years later when the Rock and his team tried to shove Cody aside to get their dream match, we spoke out: “NO!! F*CK THAT! Cody has earned the right to finish his story! WE WANT CODY!” Fans united can be a beautiful thing. ❤

Imagine how desperate you have to be to feel validated that after you fail to get executives to go along with an idea you have you pull the same b.s. idea out of your behind one more time to see if it'll work. Let's all hope that Dwayne's done with this idea of going over peoples heads to get his way because that's twice now he hasn't gotten what he wanted.

Or that the fans basically let him know that his idea sucked.

In hindsight, I’m glad how everything went down. We got one of the best road to Wrestlemania ever.

Unbelievable that Dwayne seemed to think this was such an all fired fantastic idea. What part of this seemed like it was ever,ever a good idea? This literally reminds me of the year the Red Sox missed the playoffs by one game against the Oroles and the season ended it was revealed that Adrian Gonzalez was running up the back stairs to whine to Theo Epstein about Terry Francona! This is what it reminds me of and it cracks me up because Triple H and The Rock came up together. Their rivalry brought both of them to a new level and instead of having some level of respect for the guy you have this entitled idiot running up the back stairs to suggest to Ari Emanual and Nick Khan that he should be in the main event of a show that the last he had any involvement in he wound up getting injured and having to have surgery! I'm all for The Rock vs Roman. No problem there but for this idea that somehow the show was somehow to be better if Cody Rhodes was supposed to play injured while he gave up his shot for Dwayne to come back and what? Get his butt kicked by Roman?! We were supposed to wait another year? Would Cody still been a fan favorite at that point? This literally reminds me of The Rock with the whole Black Adam thing! He wanted to build the franchise around a minor character because he was playing that character. He wanted Paul Levesque and Cody Rhodes to suck it up and deal because he wanted to come and get his ego stroked. It's complete b.s.
