I agree. I logged a few weeks of fishing this year and I noticed the fish we're active on peak feeding times more so then off peak times. I believe in it 100%

Great job, Chad. Solunar Theory and the influence of both the sun and moon on living systems is basic knowledge that was known and understood by all ancient civilizations. Funny that we live in the “Information Age”, but simple, empirical science is often disregarded as “hocus pocus mumbo jumbo”.

LOVE THIS VIDEO! I have been doing a lot of research on this and this answered several questions I had!! I like when you say "anytime you can go fishing is the best time to go fishing, but if you can fishing at the best time to go fishing then that is the best time to go fishing." I couldn't have put it better. You explain the overhead and underfoot, which makes sense, and is better than moon rise then moon set. I wanted to see what your opinion is on the best time to go fishing if you can plan that trip out. I have been looking at several calendars and they say the BEST time to go is during a new moon or a full moon, and the best time on those days (as you explain) is when the moon is overhead but most times that is in the middle of the night. I also read an article referencing John Alden's book which says the best time is when the moon overhead falls within 30 minutes of sunrise or sunset. Since most cannot fish at night when the full/half moon is overhead, my question to you is do you feel the bite is better when that full/new moon is underfoot (mid day) OR on a crescent/quarter moon phase where the moon is overhead at dusk/dawn. I plan on testing this theory with a log as you suggested. This Sunday 11/8/20 the sun rises in CA at 0642 and the last quarter moon is overhead at 0617, I plan on fishing at 0600. The next test will be 11/15/20 where the new moon is overhead at 1230. Lastly for this month, 11/29/20 there is a full moon and the moon will be underfoot at 1130. Hopefully testing these will provide the information I am looking for I just wanted to see if you had any success one way or the other. Thanks for all your videos, I must have watched a half dozen of your videos last night after I saw this one. Keep up the good work!

A little late but great, concise explanation. I’ve heard you mention solunar data in the past and have used this year to track my success or lack thereof compared to feeding windows and without a doubt have found a correlation. Early in the year I was purposefully not checking tables prior to fishing and going back after the fact to compare. There were very few times success didn’t match feeding times and the few times it didn’t there was another weather factor that was responsible. A big front moving through for example. Great stuff Chad.

Good info. I've not really paid much attention to moon phases although I'm sure it has its effects on fish without a doubt. my go-to has always been watching barometric pressure and pending cold fronts for me these are undoubtedly the best times to fish in my area of Illinois ( 24 to 48 hours before a front and falling barometric all of Gods creatures find the buffet)

Chad you are absolutely right. Once I started checking the calendar I started catching more fish. This goes right along with "where, when, and what to fish". I partnered these two things and instantly started catching more fish. I went from spending hours getting nothing to catching on my first or second cast. Then I was able to see the bite doe down as the major feeding ended. It is so amazing. Thank you for the great explanation on Solunar feeding. My only question is when the major feeding time ends, where do the fish go this time of year? As always great video and information

Hi Chad your presentation on moon phase was very good. What struck me was what you said about where the charts say it's fair whatever in the two phases above and below. That made me think a little bit more and I really never paid attention to Moonrise and moon fall thinking that they just fed on above and below. Makes a lot of sense. And now I'm going to change my ways just a little bit. I think a minor adjustment on the moonrise and moon fall or moon set I will make a big difference thank you!

Here’s a for sure #hoodie qualifier tip question. Are all solunar tables represented in Easter Standard Time? I’ve noticed that the major and minor times presented by BASS, Fishidy , Fishing points and others are all slightly different but none disclose what they use as a baseline for their activity forecast. I’d like to know if the major time forecasted is 9AM-11AM what time does in actually begin in my time zone, surely it can’t be the same across all time zones.

Chad Outstanding videos and information! Huge fan. Been kayak fishing about 2 years but bass fishing forever. I've always given a lot of weight to solunar tables myself but I've always wondered something. It seems to be generally accepted by the folks I know that pay attention, that the day of the full moon is one of the worst days of the month in terms of success. In fact, I hired a guide to take my wife and I on a three day fishing trip at Lake Okeechobee about 10 years ago and he said he generally didn't even book trips on the day of the full moon cause the bite was so tough. I've personally found this to ring true as well in that when I have fished full moon days there is an uncanny tough bite even when all other conditions appear conducive to good fishing. Why, then, is the day of the full moon always rated as the highest day of the month on all of the fishing forecasts (I use Bassmasters)? David R. Davis II

If you notice the tables on a full moon they do have the major time at night. The minor time is then around mid-day which makes sense. The major feeding times are roughly 12 hours apart. The same goes for deer hunting. On a full moon it is not good early morning; but if you get in the woods mid-day you may see that big buck!

Chad - have you noticed that the solunar phases affect LMBs more than SMBs or vice versa? I know that in the spring in CO it will draw in walleyes up shallow and higher in the water column and they will feed more aggressively but other species like trout and pike (from my experience) don't have a similar response. Granted I am betting that my TOW during these phases doesn't come anywhere close to yours so I was curous as to what your experiences have been.

So I compared my SL Fishing app and a Solunar table I found on in-fisherman and the data doesn't line up at all as far as feeding times go. I totally get the concept of throw finesse on off peak and power fish on the feeding times but I still don't trust any source 100%. I've been experimenting with the SL Fishing times because of your videos and have had VERY limited success as far as being more productive power fishing during peak times. I've only had 1 occurrence where I saw fish schooling on shad during a peak feeding time and I've fished a lot this year using the app.

Great insight! Lunar food for thought when fishing rivers: increased solar exposure, even by moonlight, increases photosynthesis which ups the vitamin A the plankton are feeding on. More active and exposed plankton, more active and exposed baitfish and crawfish, more actively feeding predator fish. Some would tell you the best-best time is 3 days after a full moon, in the peak of what the moon has kickstarted. This thought has been useful picking what days I prioritize and what colors I throw as the vitamin A will affect crawfish shell color. If your records find different results, I'd value hearing it! Hope it's an abundant catch!

How much of this effect do you think is psychological rather than astronomical? The reason I say this is I find my best success is right at the beginning or end of a peak period rather than in the middle as you might expect. My explanation is that my confidence and, more importantly, awareness and concentration level are at their highest at the beginning or towards the end of a peak period. Having said that, I always schedule my outings to encompass a peak activity period, if possible. Read more REPLY
@ChadHooverFishing
@ChadHooverFishing 7 жыл бұрын
+Dominick Stavola its both. The primary reason is that the effect is strongest on the bait fish (schooling fish) and less on the predatory fish. In the beginning of the feeding period when the bass find bait they are more active and have a larger strike zone and it peaks at the center and tapers off after that. A lot of times they are still active, just a little harder to catch towards the middle because they have already been feeding.
