A couple of examples of how to solve trigonometric equations involving a primary ratio (sine, cosine, tangent). These solutions use the CAST rule to figure out which quadrants the solutions will be in, then uses a calculator and some logic to find the solutions.

Thank you! I'm struggling so horribly with trigonometric equations. My class is onto the difficult ones and I barely understand simple ones... Time to teach myself what on earth my teacher is trying to teach me!

Great video. I graduated highschool a few years ago, but i never did good at trig. One of those things they just ignore and then you move on. And just like that, in a few minute video, i have a far greater understanding of this. Thank you. You must be a good teacher

Thank you, you gave me a big aha moment when u mentioned that the inverse only goes to 180. But you can always take that number and do - and then 360 and then you get a positive value?

Why would the 217 not be negative if it is in the 3rd quadrant?
@BrandonGrasley
@BrandonGrasley 4 жыл бұрын
The angle in Standard Position in the third quadrant is positive (37° past 180°). The *sine* of the angle is negative because it's in the third quadrant, but the angle itself is positive.

@BrandonGrasley
@BrandonGrasley 4 жыл бұрын
If you have something like csc(x)=3.7 rewrite it as sin(x)=1/3.7 And then solve. All of the secondary functions cans be written as primary functions.

@BrandonGrasley
@BrandonGrasley 4 жыл бұрын
For most angles you really need a calculator. For certain angles (30°, 45°, 60° and their multiples) the ratios are nice numbers and you can memorize them.

i couldnt understand why you did -180 and 180 in the last question can anyone explain why?
@BrandonGrasley
@BrandonGrasley 4 жыл бұрын
I was referring to how a calculator's inverse functions work. They don't give answers like 290⁰. Instead, they would give an answer like -70⁰. If you need a solution between 0⁰ and 360⁰ you need to convert the calculator answer into the right interval (generally by adding 360⁰ to the negative angle).

For tan(x), arctan(x) gives you a solution (let's call it X) and then all other solutions are X + n*180º, where n is any integer.
