In this video I discuss DeWalt dust collection adapters for DeWalt tools, specifically the DWV9000 and the DWV9190. Dust Collection is important for any workshop, including having the ability to connect your tools easily. Hopefully this video helps people navigate the world of DeWalt Adapters. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for making this video. I went down this same rabbit hole. I'll try to share what I learned in hopes that it helps someone else out there... This system is called, 'AirLock' and it is Dewalt's proprietary dust management solution that makes their tools OSHA compliant. The first problem is that they don't expect you to use a wet/dry vac with their tools. They expect you to use a HEPA filter equipped dust extractor such as their DWV010 or DWV012 which come with a special hose that only connects to tools with their AirLock dust port. This is why they don't include an adapter with the tool. Even the dust separator isn't really intended to be used for dust extraction. It is made to prolong the life of your wet/dry vac filter when cleaning up the floor. Here is some good news: You don't need to run a 2-1/2 inch hose to these tools. Remember, the tool manufacturer tells you how big the hose needs to be when they set the size of the dust port on the tool. The air flow is only as great as the smallest point so using a larger hose won't make things better. The DWV9000 is reverse threaded for a 1-1/4 inch hose such as this one from Rona for only 30 loonies.... www.rona.ca/en/product/project-source-8-ft-x-125-in-black-plastic-hose-for-wet-and-dry-3-gal-vacuum-ps08-2517-45585013 This hose, together with the DWV9000, allows you to connect any AirLock tool to a vac (or cyclone) with a 2-1/2 inch inlet. It is a much less bulky solution than using their 'Large Hose Adapter' and no bigger than needed. I found this especially helpful when connecting to the back of my mitre saw which swings back and forth and up and down with each cut. I also paid extra for the dust port on my circular saw... and it works really well... but having to use two different adapters and a big shop vac hose makes it really difficult to use. The DWV9000 screws on to the end of this hose like it was meant to be there and makes using these tools so much nicer. The elephant in the room here is that the consumer market is but an after thought for Dewalt. Their bread and butter consists of sales reps that sell directly to larger contractors/construction businesses, as well as commercial and industrial operations. These businesses get inspected regularly and will not purchase anything that fails to meet health and safety standards. This is also why it is so difficult for regular consumers to get any information on (or sometimes even access to) some of these specialized products. They don't expect you to buy it. I too, am a Dewalt fan-boy but there are days...

About 6-7 yrs ago I bought a dewalt dust extractor. I think it was about $700 It came with a twist loc type end on the hose. That wouldn’t fit any tools. I then bought the accy kit with all different nozzles and a carry bag. Probably around $80-100. Those accys would not fit the twist loc on the dust extractor. I called dewalt twice, spent way too much time and was told I bought the wrong accy kit. They gave me a part number ordered another kit for another$80-100 and voila, that didn’t work either. Called dewalt again, spent way too much time and no one there knows how to fix the problem. Long story long, I had weeks and weeks, all sorts of parts dewalt told me to buy, and way too much $ into a glorified shop vac. I don’t know how I finally figured it all it but I found a dewalt adapter that fit the twist loc and reduced it to fit all the attachment accys I bought. How do u sell a $700 vacuum, an $100 accy kit and nothing comes with either to make them one??? 6 yrs later, I see ur video, and I’m triggered!!! I now use 90% Milwaukee and festool. F U dewalt.

I feel your pain. It's ridiculous they can't just include an adaptor or at least have very clear information on the website. I basically learned about the adapters through reading reviews and KZfaq videos, and cross referencing with there website. I was triggered to haha. Since I'm way to deep with DeWalt (own several batteries and power tools) I don't think I'm switching anytime soon. Thanks for watching!

FYI @ 3:26 - you don’t ‘screw’ the DWE9000 onto the tool’s dust chute. Just slide it over the chute, hold the end ring nearest the tool while rotating the adapter’s base counter clockwise. This willcreates the “air lock” by engaging its inner ball bearings. Turn clockwise to unlock and pull off.

I just FINALLY discovered (after buying YET ANOTHER adapter). I Realized the adapter I bought to adapt the DW900 was threaded left handed. THEN I realized the DW900 had left handed threads in it. And Lo and Behold unscrewed the end off my Ridgid 1 7/8” hose (Also Left handed) and PRESTO. The DW900 threads right on to it PERFECTLY. NO other adapters needed. You said "Say "that" 3 times..." Would it be "that, that, that"? KIdding aside, I have a lot of Dewalt tools (recommended by my son (over using Craftsman), and I like Dewalt a lot. Connecting the Dewalt dust collector to my 6.5HP Craftsman (25+ years old and still running great) was not a problem (90 degree PVC elbow did the trick). Connecting the dust collector hose to other tools is the challenge. I have a detailed sheet listing all the attachments to the DWV9000 and they total about $125 on Amazon. Expensive to have all the various attachments.

@northernoutlier

Ah good question. For that setup I am not sure what DeWalt adaptor you would need but you need it to reduce it from 2 1/2 inches (table saw) to 1 7/8 inches (vacuum) I think. You could use the setup I talked about however you would need a reducer off of those. Or you can get any old reducer adaptor. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

One cool thing though, the 1-1/4" hose on the DeWalt cordless vacuum is exactly the same size as the Ridgid auto detailing kit. All the bits and pieces fit like a glove, or you can swap out the 5' DeWalt hose for the 10' Ridgid hose. But yeah, DeWalt customer service was useless. I had to figure it out myself.

@@bz9363 The 1-1/4" hose on the DCV501HB looks identical to the one on my vac. You should be able to unthread the fitting from the hose (left-handed thread and a little rubber cement goo) and then thread the DWV9000 directly onto the hose. Let me know how it goes.

Same problems here, and I live in South Africa where I haven't been able to find adapter stock at all. The DW distributors here are less than helpful and DeWalt global keeps sending me back to them so I have a seriously bad taste about this. Ordering on Amazon costs more in shipping and customs than the price of the partd, so very unhappy... I'm also a big fanboy, I keep losing my way round the shop because everything is yellow and black and not Stanley, but the look is ruined by duct tape and pool pipe jury rigs all over to get things to work. Kind of let's the brand down.
