Up until Part 7, I'd invested in the idea that The World had access to the powers of the Joestar Stands, working into how he used Hermit Purple in Part 3 and somehow fixed Pucci's foot in Part 6. And thus time stop would have been the actual power of Star Platinum, and DIO kept tapping into it because he found it the most useful and worthwhile. Plus that would add to the theme of DIO always taking from the Joestars to propel himself further.

I always thought star Platinums real power was situational development. Like in the fight against strength, star Platinum couldn't move, so he literally adapted to his situation and did something that only Kakyoin's stand could do. And when he fought against Dio, star Platinum adapted to the situation, and that's when he reached the peak of his development potential

There is a theory that originally Araki intended for The World's ability to be about having access to the stand abilities of living Joestars. It has been established that thanks to Jonathan's body Dio had a special connection to all the Joestars, and earlier in SC Dio was shown using what appeared to be Hermit Purple, which fits perfectly into that theory. With this, Dio stopping time later on would've eventually made Jotaro realize that one of the Joestars had that power to stop time.

Honestly I view The World and Star Platinum being the same stand as a reflection of the struggle between Dio and the Joestars, especially Johnathan. Looking back to when they were young men, both Johnathan and Dio were strong, intelligent, and determine no matter the situation. For people who weren't blood related their physique and aptitudes were very similar. To me, Star Platinum even has a similar appearance to Bruford the zombie Knight that Johnathan gained the respect of. These things seem to lead credence to the idea that Dio (with Jonathan's body) and at least one of the Joestars would end up with the same/similar stand.

Consider: star platinum never really had an ability pre time stop, besides super speed and reaction time (star finger is just manipulation of stand size, like the lovers fight). The peak of speed and reaction is as if time stopped. Time stop is just star platinum's ability evolving.

I subscribe to the theory that Star Platinum's true ability is mimicry of the ancestors. Star finger being a hamon thing and time stop (and later over heaven) because of how DIO fused with Johnathan. Its one of the more outlandish theories, but I like it.

Sadly no source but I'm gonna type it anyway: Star Platinums Stand Power could actually be doing things Jotaro expects it to do. That's why it was able to do basically everything in the beginning like grabbing a beer at your local 7-eleven. Fast forward to Avdol beating the shit out of Jotaro. Jotaro would, seeing Avdols ripped MR, expect SP to be a ripped fighter as well. Thus was born Star Platinum Fast forward to the sailor guy and his Stand. Jotaro can't do his normal punching so he expects SP to go mid-range as well. Thus was born Starfinger And now seeing that The World basically can do everything SP can do, but also stop time... you know the drill

Actually I have a theory that Star Platinum's actual ability is a partial ability replication. After his fight with the Tower of Grey, he gets Star Finger, which is very similar to the tongue thing. And after the fight with the fake captain, you get Star Platinum using water in an impossible way to defeat Yellow Temperance. Then during his fight with DIO, he gets time stop.

What if DIO has the power to have the stand powers of all living Jostars. That would explain why he had the time stop (which would be Jotaros ability) and hermit purple

Again with blood relatives having very similar stands you can explain Holly having a stand that looks like very similar to hermit purple being the holly vines. They are essentially the same stand but just look different. This relates to the end of Stardust Crusaders when Holly knows that they are all coming home, she has the similar ability as her father to read minds or have some sort of psychological ability. Clearly though she doesn’t have the fighting spirit needed to materialize her stand but still has the stand ability, yet very much weaker to a point where she doesn’t even realize it, also explaining why she can see other stands. Having a stand ability without actually having an materialized stand is very possible and quite common as Jotaro used Star Platinum during the game with D’arby to see the cards without actually materializing him. Same with the thing Araki said about Joseph having the Hermit Purple ability when he was younger but it never materialized as Jonathan’s body hadn’t set the signal out yet to awaken stands, “awaken” meaning they were always there, just not active.

left this on XForts vid, figured it was also applicable here: a lot of folks hate on stardust crusaders twist (star platinum being able to stop time) personally i think it is an awesome twist that re-contextualizes most of the part, and was foreshadowed enough that it is definetely not a cop out. i mean, DIO learned he could stop time after catching shotgun pellets, and one of the first things we see star platinum do was catch a bullet. Araki knew exactly what he was doing. I mean, it's not like he just decided to randomly evolve the main JoJo's stand to the point where it was just utterly broken and could completely cancel out any other stand, causing the villain to die infinitely because that would be stupid.

When J Geil reflected onto Polnareff's eye, all Polnareff had to do was blink once to kill him since there were no other reflective surfaces for him to jump to in the middle of the desert. Instead Polnareff somehow managed to run what looked like around a kilometer to the little village without blinking a single time which allowed J Geil to reflect onto the eye of one of his victims.

I think DIO and Jotaro are actually quite similar people, thus explaining their Stands' matching powers. I'm going to indulge in a little bit of speculation, so bare with me. For starters, DIO and Jotaro seemed to both have less than ideal fathers. I'm not an expert on the Japanese, but the Kujo home seemed to be larger than average, despite the fact Holly didn't seem to have a job. As we know Jotaro's father is a musician, and the bread-winner in the family, coupled with his absence in Stardust Crusaders, even when Holly is having a flashback to Jotaro being a kid, it's safe to say he's not there for Jotaro, which can be developmentally damaging. Not quite to the same degree as DIO and Dario, but a connection. Next, both are attached to their mothers. Not much to say here, no inference needed. Jotaro clearly cares about his mom, going on a life-threatening journey and all. Both are violent. DIO often used physical force to bully Jonathan, just as Jotaro is known to beat people up. Their Stands are both outlets for this violent urge. Jotaro is not very outwardly expressive of his emotions, similar to how DIO hid his distaste for the Joestars all those years living with them. I'm not an expert on the Japanese or their culture. I'm not going to pretend to be a weeb who, "knows everything about their culture" but I am aware the Japanese are deeply nationalistic, and, to a degree, rascist. As a high-school student, it seems to me to not be unlikely that he was picked on due to being 1/2 British. This explains Jotaro growing a rough exterior to intimidate others. DIO also had to grow tough, as shown early on in his chess match in Phantom Blood. All in all, the thing that makes them different is how they go about these adversities in their life. Araki intentionally makes each antagonist and protagonist opposites, and this is a subtle way to do so. I see Jotaro and DIO as two heads of the same coin, the same in circumstance, but fundamentally different. P.S. Hermit Purple #2 is Jonathan's stand. Prior to completely fusing, DIO basically made Jonathan's body a zombie/vampire, which, as we know can still have stands. As they fuse more and more, his use decreases, as they further merge into one entity. P.P.S. Pucchi's foot is wierd. It's definitely not a Crazy Diamond power because his foot was always like that. Crazy Diamond can't fix moles or other malformities, from what we've seen. P.P.P.S. The flesh bud is a vampire power, fight me.

I think it's the same deal that Dio uses spirit photos of Hermit Purple with The World. I think The World is the combination of All Joestar Stands. Jotaro just didn't know he could stop time cuz he just unlocked his stand roughly 2 months ago but Dio had his 6 months. This is most logical explanation for me and it makes sense, hence Dio using Hermit Purple's abilities. But I wish Araki really came up with a explanation 😑

My take about the first Plot Hole with Resurrections: All individuals that was shown to have been revived are Stand Users, Josuke's grandpa was not one. When people die, their souls go to heaven, but Stand Users seem to have the ability to stay tethered into the world. Reimi Sugimoto was a ghost on the mortal world but she was bound to the alleyway, a veil between Life and Death. Kira's father however was a Stand User, and was able to move around the mortal world pretty easily. When Okayasu went to heaven, his brother asked him if he wants to join him or stay; this seems to be turning point of spirits, but Stand Users look like they are able to be brought back if their bodies are still "alive". Holes in my theory:

I think that the "Same type of Stand" thing makes sense because, as it was stated, some users do have very similar stands, but more importantly, every stand has an ability besides beating shit up. Magician's Red had fire, Chariot had extremely fast swordsmanship, Josuke had restoration, and so on. What was SP's main ability throughout most of part 3? Just beating shit up. I kind of thought that Jotaro would get another ability while I was watching Crusaders. (I mean, you could say Star Finger is his ability, but maybe DIO realized how fucking disgusting it was and didn't use it)

Don't forget that DIO and Joseph also shares the same Stand. DIO shared the Stand abilities of two Joestar's Stands. I don't think that's so far-fetched or an asspull. Even Holy and Josuke's Stand's can be theorized to relate back to DIO and Jonathan's essence such as Crazy Diamond performing some sort of time-reversion or Holy's Stand acting like a vampiric leech in form of vegetation that's used to symbolize Jonathan and Joseph.

so i actually have a really good theory for that last one, when jotaro says he has the same type of stand as dio, he is referring to the fact that it is a close range warrior stand similar to star platinum, and crazy diamond. at this time he didnt know about his capabilities to move in the world. So now to the explanation, when we look at all of the jostar generations and their stands we find that; jonathan:vine, stand joseph:vine stand, holly:vine stand jotaro:warrior stand, josuke:warrior stand, jolyne:a mix of the two. therefore the only 2 with the same TYPE of stand as dio is jotaro and josuke, but josuke has a develepment potential of C so star platinum is connected to dio through the jostar bloodline, and the fact that it are the only other stand in the jostar bloodline similar enough to have the same powers as the world because of this star platinum can do anything the world can because i believe that when dio established that link between jostars he established a link between him, and thr only person similar to him. this also explains why jotaro uses over heaven in eyes in heaven.

Heres another idea for pucci. Part 4s killer queen has bites the dust, an ability to rewind time. Its been theorized that it doesnt rewind time but instead places them in an alternate time line (you did a video on this i think). Pucci may have not existed in the time line berfore part 4. Thus making sense as to why pucci was never mentioned or anything.

For the death plothole He simply had no blood and needed a start up, something real humans have come back from even after 20 minutes Josuke's family member was ripped up from the inside and had his soul already leave (Josephs may not have even left since jotaro says "w-was I seeing things" so yeah)

Another part of stand traits thru blood and such, while star platinum got time stop, crazy diamond looks similar to the world, both having those weird heart helmets

I was always thinking that if part 3 were to be rewritten, here's how I would solve some of these issues: -Star Platinum: The World: I always thought it did seem like an asspull that Star Platinum had the same ability of The World, and while it may make sense in retrospect a casual-new audience wouldn't see it this way. So, what if Star Platinum: The World was a requiem ability? As in, the find the arrow on Enyaba after the justice arc? They take the arrow (obviously curious why an old woman is carrying around an arrow. Maybe they test it on something) and Jotaro keeps it on his person. During the beginning of the fight, Jotaro is so outmatched that he stabs himself with the arrow on the slim chance that it could help him. Since requiems give you an ability specific to the situation, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Star Platinum would gain the same ability as The World to counter it. Of course it would still kind of seem like an asspull that the arrow could grant an additional ability, but it makes sense within the logic of the universe. -Joseph's blood: I don't think him being brought back to life is a problem, but why isn't he a vampire? I mean, how do you separate the vampire and his own blood when it's been circulating Dio's body for a while. So there's two solutions: Joseph turns into a vampire but doesn't give in to the temptations that Dio does, or Joseph dies. He isn't THAT necessary in the future plot besides the initial spirit photos that Jotaro has at the beginning of part 4, but he would go to Morioh anyway to talk about inheritance. Although you would miss out on some sweet father-son moments in part 4. -Holly Why don't the Joestars lose their stands after Holly does when Dio was defeated? Well, my change would be that while DIO's presence does give the Joestar bloodline their stands initially, but also amplifies their power (also giving a working explanation as to why Jotaro would be able to stand against a vampire in a fisticuffs match) to the point where Holly can't control her own stand. This means that once Dio dies, all the Joestars can keep their stands but also accounts for the power nerf Jotaro receives at the beginning of Part 4.

That explains why dio can also use hermit purple in the plane scene
