Courses and Books by Peter A. Levine, PhD: bit.ly/2ze5pz2
Peter A. Levine, PhD, has spent 45 years studying and treating stress and trauma. He holds a doctorate degree in medical biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley and in psychology from International University. He is the developer of Somatic Experiencing®, a naturalistic approach to healing trauma. He has practiced and taught at treatment centers, hospitals, and pain clinics throughout the world, and has dealt with a wide range of trauma, including accidents, rapes, assaults, abuse, and invasive medical procedures. Peter was a stress consultant for NASA during the development of the Space Shuttle program. He served with the Institute for World Affairs Task Force for “Psychologists for Social Responsibility” and the American Psychological Association “Presidential Initiative on Responding to Large-Scale Disasters and Ethno-Centric Warfare.”
Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 80 employees, a library of more than 1500 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of customers from across the world. In more than three decades of growth, change, and evolution, Sounds True has maintained its focus on its overriding purpose, as summed up in our Mission Statement.

This was much needed, also wanted to point out that racial trauma was not acknowledged and I wish to the Gods that it was mentioned at least once, since we are living through a public health crisis and also a racial -trauma-crisis. I also want to acknowledge all of the indigenous cultures that Dr. Levine have learned from and created somatic experiencing modality with his travels.

I love speaking about the hard part of taking ourselves in our body. I couldnt imagine when started to work in my PTSD how hard it is to go out of thinking mind into body, to drop. We are so oriented to minds and thinking and we belive that that is us. I was using all mind strategies to heal myself from some deep feeling of fear, lonlliness and abondonment. It was so contraproductive, and Im so greatfull that in oast two years I started to use only body oriented practicies with therapist, and it is going bumpy and it is a life of work, but it is better than CBT or some other aproach. Thank you for youre great understanding and work. I would give Peter like Nobel prize for his life work because he helped humanity to heal for real.

That vibration in the body is also a spiritual raising of vibration. Krishna Das has a KZfaq video called RHADE GOVINDA, and if you sing it ( write down what the words "sound like" even though you don't understand what the words mean. It's beautifully healing, to put it on ENDLESS LOOP setting and keep singing it. You can FEEL THE VIBRATION deep in your lungs. After doing this for several days, I had an amazing spiritual experience. So cool. Try it. The vibration from saying VUIUU, or Rhade Govinda, etc the vibration that is literally FELT inside of the body, is so healing.

We have lived with daily fear before. In the 50s, we were constantly fearful of nuclear annihilation. We prepared for it in school. We did not prepare for it at home; there was no way. We could not protect ourselves. We hoped, we prayed. It worked. We are meant to survive. We are meant to evolve into a new level of connection with consciousness. Accentuate the positive.

another self soothing during actual trauma is to lay down, hands over and behind head to open heart, then look to the right and wait ... you will yawn or sigh in under 2.5 minutes, and feel better. repeat if necessary. somthing about the eye looking to the right, cuts off the feedback loop of stress. I saw it on a YT video yesterday from a somatic therapist.

@@CarolBlaneyPhD I don’t find that works for me personally, I’ve done it with my somatic therapist and several times on my own. It actually increased my stress. But it’s a nice simple fast technique. It’s great that it works for a lot if people!

@@twilit yeah there are a couple, you’re right. They did nothing for me so I didn’t really realize they were actual exercises that I should expect an improvement with, I guess. Was expecting something a little more obvious. 🤷‍♀️ Hopefully, once my body comes down to a slightly calmer state, these exercises will work better as a sort of maintenance type thing. The somatic stuff I’m doing has been helping so I’m hoping it won’t be too long before it gets to the level described here. :) 🤞🏽

@@tiiaj7589 Hi, I'm trying to find what you refer to, techniques for more intense situations. I have a family member who keeps 'being put on' antipsychotic meds, yet this person only has this 'chaotic brain overload' situation occasionally. I wanted to try to find some methods that could work in really difficult stress moments when this person is alone and without any help or family nearby. I feel that is a better solution than daily meds which mess with biology... ( any suggestions would be appreciated) :D (so far my best advice for this person is to have a 'pill' handy for those emergencies but what if you are out of pills. ) another approach might be a CBD:THC 1: 1 vape pen handy but not sure if that helps in dire situations.
