I was given a cockatiel 26 days ago, I've had budgies before but have never been responsible for a bird this size or training any of them on my own so i've been using you channel as a guide on what I should do, I'm taking said cockatiel to the vet today for a checkup and am honestly worried cause I'm not a point yet where I can handle the cockatiel without issues into a carrier and I'm scared of causing the bird to hate me afterwards so wish me luck xD also they managed to take off their leg band which had never happened with any of my birds.

Such a remarkable video. So may thoughts and observations. 1) capri is RE…MARK..ABLE. Such an amazing little being and a credit to her parents. The whole situation on the bed, the biting…completely nonplussed. 2) just within this video, interesting fennel didn’t have the greatest interest in the millet until you started targeting. It reads to me almost less like reinforcement and more like muscle memory on fennels part. 3) I love the early reinforcement of the step up. The shaping is so nuanced: after the first foot touched. It reads kind of like your reinforcing the body weight shift and not just shaping the foot touch. A wonderful masterclass! Fennel seems to be the least food motivated project bird you’ve had. Curious to know if she has been your most vexing project bird to crack?

God bless u guys for having the balls to try to teach something SO COMPLEX, yet so easy in concepts. Hm, Fennel not being as fearful with you is definitely interesting! Because she's young it makes me wonder if baby/juvenile birds go through something like the fear periods puppies/young dogs go through. Her having been very fearful and then suddenly no longer that way reminds me of that time in training puppies.

I wonder if it's the environment that scares them? I'm having that issue with my GCC... at first he was fine, now... he's terrified of everything. I will admit, I don't have a "good and happy" living situation. I've been thinking it's the "feeling" of the house in general... Perhaps Fennel had a similar situation. And since you guys are peaceful, loving and it's calm there... she not afraid.

Again I see you are approaching Fennel like many other parrots. ekkies are very different, especially females. Avoid dark places with her because she will instinctually want to nest even if she is not mature. They also are thinkers and react only when they are ready. My female also does the one foot thing. If you notion slightly up when she give you the one foot she will most likely finish the step up.

Conures are very noisy for close neighbors! Think about a 100 decibel alarm going off through a wall a few times a day.
@MrJdubz100
@MrJdubz100 2 жыл бұрын
Or 100 decibel alarm potentially going off all day. Quieter birds are African Grays, a happy Senegal parrot (mine was loud when she was younger and didn’t feel like she was getting enough attention but if she was happy she was quiet), a budgie, a cockatiel, and many pionus. Of course you can have individuals that are louder than others but the species listed are typically much quieter than Sun Conures.

Hi! Out of topic but I need help. I got a budgie named Blu about 2 months ago who was always and scared and etc. I got another budgie named Belle and a lot of people have told me it was a bad idea because I didn't get to bond with Blu. So, they clicked right away but now they're both scared. I have a cage on the ground and it's medium big. So, been 2 months and I tried EVERYTHING with them. I tried to make them try new food, they refused because they were too scared to try. I showed them treats, but I don't even think they know what it is. So, they have been eating pellets all the time, day and night. They have gotten a little comfortable with me by coming onto my hands. But, they still scoot away when I try and get them. And, I've taken them outside (they are 4 months old and can't fly that well yet.) and they enjoy being outside. But when I try and get them back into our house, they attempt to run away and I have to go after them. It's so frustrating, they're always scared and I'm not sure what to do anymore. Any tips at at all? They're also quiet sometimes but yk they can make loud noises here and there. I really need help, my mom is thinking of getting them away.

I noticed that my African grey which is 9 months old somtimes times will not step up to my hand when I want to take him out the cage so I just leave him be but he will let me know when to wants to come out he will come down the cage and then when I try to take him out he will step up is this normal behavior??
@high-bi-password
@high-bi-password 2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest trying to figure out what else could be contributing to his desire to come out at that particular time. Does it coincide with a certain time of day, or maybe before / after a meal? Does he get a full 12 hours of sleep? What is his diet and what treats are you using / what’s his motivation to step up when you ask him? I would also try to film when you try to take him out to see if your body language is contributing like when Capri kept trying despite Fennel’s “no” body language

We do have to accept that they are not robots and do have choice. Sometimes they eagerly and willingly step up or come out if their cage. Sometimes they will not. Remember it is their cage, which is their home. It is theirs. Sometimes they are moody, perhaps tired, disinterested in interacting or down right ornery. Other times they are trying to step up and it seems as though they are trying to bite you. It is a learning process. Yet as a living creature they have a choice in what they do.

I totally agree. Jamie seems overly obsessed with the birds and very disinterested in Capri. She is a little girl and seems to be an afterthought unless being used to help with the birds. Hopefully when the camera is off Jamie has one on one time with Capri and shows her the same amount of attention as she does the birds.
