I definitely agree on the Samyang 135mm f/1.8 as great value for money - using it for astrophotography is wonderful, and it gets fantastic images in pretty much every other situation as well. My only real gripe is that I don't have the lens station, so I have to buy or rent one - and I'd rather rent if I can help it, since it's my only Samyang lens right now and I'd rather not contribute to E-waste. I've also had my eye on the Laowa macro, even though the focal length of the Samyang and the Laowa are reasonably close the 2x macro is super tempting, especially since my current macro lens is a vintage lens on extension tubes. Probably going to need a graphics card upgrade for my PC first though...

I wound up with Samyang's 135mm f/1.8 FE as a Black Friday purchase for $660 and can happily say there's not a lick of buyer's remorse. Your review of the Nikon 24-120 was what a friend of mine needed to see to convince her to abandon her old D5600 and go full-frame mirrorless. Our wallets may not appreciate you, but our minds certainly do. Thanks Chris!
@SMGJohn
@SMGJohn Жыл бұрын
And what was wrong with her D5600??? 24 megapixel sensor from 2016 is pretty much identical to performance of majority of APS-C cameras today and does she even print larger than A1??? No? Then you wont even need more than 20 megapixels let alone 24 Good images are not because of camera, but because of the user behind it.

Best value for money should have gone to the Samyang AF 24mm f1.8 FE...It's just as sharp as the Sony FE 24mm f1.4 GM, right across the frame, but it has less CA and coma at the edges of frame, and better flare resistance too, plus it's almost half the weight and yet amazingly, it's only 1/3rd the price!!! Literally the bargain of the year! I also bought the Samyang AF 135mm f1.8 FE, based partly on Chris's review, and he wasn't wrong...I would go as far to say it's the best 135mm f1.8 lens ever made...Making the Sony GM version look like hyper expensive junk.

That Z 24-120 f4 is out of this world, and just trounces the competition at or anywhere near its formulation. It even matches or exceeds the sharpness of certain trinity f2.8's from certain manufacturers who shall remain nameless. Best wide to tele zoom is a justified award on that lens.

Most are discontinued, but it would be great to see a proper lens test of the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II. Also: the Nikkor AF-S 200mm f/2G ED & 300mm f/2.8 would be interesting. Do you have a kind of perpetual top list/hall of fame anywhere, coming to think of it? Tyll from Innerfidelity used to keep a list of top X recommendations at every price category for headphones, and I think something like that would be quite cool to see from your beyond-extensive review catalogue. Maybe a top 3 or best & honourable mention for each sensor format / price bracket combination to help those undecided on which system will cater best to their specific shooting needs? Also I can't wait to hopefully see Samyang, Sigma & Tamron offerings for Nikon Z mount, now that they're open to collaborating with third parties. My Z6 is such a great camera, but I am a little jealous of Sony users for the value & compact lens options on the market. That 135 1.8 is seriously calling me..

For next year... how about reviewing lenses of a particular make? e.g. start with Olympus, I think they have a lot of underrated lenses which produce beautiful images. I recently got an Olympus OM-4 Ti to try the lenses that I already had in its native system... but this was only after I tried them on my Sony cameras with an adapter. Then you can move another year into another classic system and so on...

@@professionalpotato4764"Z 50 f1.8 is sharper than the 33 in the corners." That is not true! Just comparing the reviews of those lenses on this channel. @@muttishelfer9122 Just quoting what others said. I remember someone somewhere compared the Z 50mm to the 33mm and claimed better corner resolution. I personally haven't tried the Z system so I don't know what to draw from this. Could be sample variance. Could be actual lack of resolution. But here in this video, it performs worse than a f/2.8 zoom lens from Tamron in the edge. Centre sharpness seems better though. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ntd9aseXyZPcYY0.html

When I compared the 40 Mpx apsc fuji vs the 24 Mpx full-frame Nikon Z6 II on the DP Review comparison tool, I see the Nikon is sharper in my opinion even at 100 ISO, at higher ISOs is a lot better but that's expected. So, not sure if it's down to the lenses used for the comparison or to the actual resolving power of the full frame over the apsc sensor

There is no rf lens on these awards, and as a user of the canon system, I feel that it is somewhat satisfying. Canon is against their customers, and that's something we could see when any rf lens was capable of winning any category. I love canon but it's a sentimental thing, not a performance thing, maybe I'll buy an r7 body but I'll seriously consider it. Equipment doesn't make the film or the pic, but influences a lot. Thanks Christopher, absolutely great job.

Although Nikon gets dragged in the camera community often, I do give them credit that although they don't open their mount up to 3rd parties, they have been putting out a number of good budget friendly full frame lenses for Z mount. Canon could use to take notes from them when it comes to RF mount. Great video as always!
