If you don’t already have a copy of John Martyn’s “Grace and Danger” album...get it! This performance, complete with John playing a Gibson SG, is soooooooo soulful! Love it!

It's a must buy I agree. To think it was put on ice for over a year by Island Records. It's a special album, with John's brilliance, Phil on drums, great bass guitar from John Giblin (and bass pedals on this song) but I think it's Alan Thompson here, fabulous vintage keyboards like Fender Rhodes piano and Mellotron and probably a touch of Prophet-5. That sound is never to be repeated really.

Yes indeed. A super warm sounding album. Guitar sound, Mellotron, delicious Fender Rhodes electric piano and that Phil dude on drums, wots is name?🤣 Good grief. I already replied 2 years ago!🤣😂😅 It's strange that John's live drummer here also has a left handed kit.

I was at this concert back in 1980, my last year at Stirling Uni. Saw John live about 6 times some of the best shows I ever saw. A unique musician.

Taken from the album Grace And Danger with John Giblin on bass. He was amazing. RIP

Phil Collins played drums on this album, two powerhouses writing together both going through divorces. You can really hear the emotion throughout. RIP John

John meant to have performed at another location before this for Rock Goes to College as he took paternity leave with his new partner in Scotland at the time. Their relationship didn't last as he got kicked out of the house and was homeless in 1982.

I wonder how that 'baby' is doing, he'll be 40 years old now !!!

0:28 does anyone know what child he’s talking about there? As far as I know John and Beverley were divorced during the making of Grace and Danger so they shouldn’t have a 2 week old child at this time.. I’m probly mishearing something but that always confused me so I thought I might as well ask😅

Short term relationship...kid named Rory (?)...haven't heard the name of this woman, and haven't heard Rory mentioned after this. Maybe one of his bios talks about this part of his life. ❤☮🌎

I like to think these are clues that artists did have babies but wanted to protect them

@@SaidarSaraaah If you read the book Small Hours: The Long Night of John Martyn by Graeme Thomson, unfortunately in this case, you'd find out that your thought is not correct. I believe this is the child he outright abandoned, and the others he had he didn't support financially, or to any decent extent emotionally. He was a beautiful, talented, complicated mess. The only "protection" he provided was to stay away from them since he was an addict (drugs and/or alcohol) and a violent one at times. ❤☮🌎

Humanity is a funny one isn't it...... He's provided more fatherly love , wisdom and lasting comfort that most people never would have the depth or intelligence for. I dare say it's a bit more complicated and intricate than what's been said here.... Closest thing to a father I've ever had. The love and the intellect and an epigenetic leap, for humanity, yet this predictably overlooked...a ,is infinite in but a few. I don't wanna know bout evil. Only wanna know about loveee. Sometimes it gets so hard, to listen, hArd for us to use our eyes and all around the gold it glistens, making sure it keeps us down to size.... Hypnotized... A concept that we say we idealise but then we stigmatize all the while to keen to contradict our idolise.... Are we so sure that we're now the wiser, and our words, second hand told, tweaking the value , interpreted with the most Abundant of human traits, idol eyes....(And ears and all the rest. I'm tired now.

@@SaidarSaraaah If John Martyn was a father to you either literally or figuratively and it was a positive thing, that's great. However, I was around for a brief period when he was abusing one of his partners and though I still adored the good parts (and there were many...so clever and funny and talented beyond talented) and will always love his music, it doesn't excuse his behavior that went beyond the basics of someone being human and not perfect and screwing up every now and again. We're talking multiple women being physically abused and multiple children not being supported in a meaningful way either financially or emotionally. So this is not second hand news, and it's not crucifying the dead or the famous, but being honest about the good, bad, and quite ugly bits of one man's life who happened to be in the public's eye and whose behavior behind closed doors got kind of hard to ignore to those around him. When he was good, he was extremely good and when he was bad, it was pretty bad. Hope the last few years of his life were better spent than some of the earlier ones as far as time off the stage and out of the spotlight. I'm forever grateful for the music he left us while he was here. ❤☮🌎

Great talent who led a hedonistic reckless life but had no regrets. You see the sad deterioration over the next years.
