I'm describing some axe heads and rambling on my opinion and taste in individual old axe heads. I plan on hafting these heads for use. What I look for in an old axe head for use. This is part 1. I apologize for the audio quality. The neighbor had a grinder going.

I've found 2 single bit Snow&Nealley axe heads buried on my property here in Western Maine. VERY rusty but totally worth saving. Thanks for an interesting video.

Thanks for watching. I imagine S&N axes might be one of the more common brands found in Maine. Hard to find them here in Michigan.

Nice stuff man. I live just down the road from a guy that runs a small antique store/second-hand store and he's been selling me axes for dirt cheap. He tries to keep nicer antiques in his store so when he gets an old rusty axe (he buys stuff in lots,) he usually sells it to me for five bucks. I've gotten some real gems that are hiding under that surface rust! Two weeks ago he sold me a Plumb double-bit axe with a perfect handle for five dollars. Sorry for rambling on, but I've spent all day cleaning and sharpening axes and I stumbled across your video.

Thanks for watching and the comment. The local antique shops used to sell their axe heads for $5 but now most sell for $30 and up and a lot are used up junk heads. I did buy a few for $5 each at a flea market last summer so there are bargains still out there. Good luck getting those axes hafted and used.

I have a head that i am trying to learn more about, to see if it is worth hafting, what kind of handle to use, and what I can use it for. It is a single bit axe head and I think it has an "overcoat" like you described about the first head in this video. Any help would be greatly appreciated, maybe I could put up a video about it on my account.

Jerry, if you look on eBay " vintage sooline pickaroons x3 . What's your opinion? I'm going to make handles for all, keep 1 and send you 2. You can haft them and make a KZfaq video. Have a give away if you wish. ( It's been awhile since you made a video. Don't want you to slack off) lol🤭👍

I don't know. Shipping is a lot on those. The trouble with the railroad pickaroons is they are heavy because they use them with heavy rail ties.Did you buy them already? I think regular pickaroons are lighter. I appreciate the offer but I'm set on picaroons. I will try to make a video soon anyway. I have an idea for one that might be good. I'm looking at the nice E&S double bit in this video.

I don't know about Swedish Axe Works. Wetterlings is made in Sweden. The company was bought by the owner of Gransfors Bruks. Just last year they decided to eliminate the Wetterlings brand and make Gransfors Bruks axes at the old Wetterlings factory. So maybe Wetterlings will be a valuable collector item someday. Anyway they made nice axes.
