17th - 18th September 2022 saw the Somerset & Dorset Railway at Midsomer Norton pay homage to the Pines Express with the return of their annual autumn gala.
Star of the show was guest loco Ex LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2T, No.41312 (Visiting from the Mid Hants Railway), joining long term resident Kitson No.5459 'Austin 1' (courtesy of the Llangollen Railway) and British Rail Class 03, D2022 (visiting from the Swindon & Cricklade) for an intensive weekend of steam and diesel hauled services.
The event also saw the first four coach train to operate on the line since closure in 1966, top and tailed by two steam locomotives.
Filmed on Saturday 17th from the lineside, we is all locomotives in action hauling services on both the up and down lines towards Chilcompton Tunnel.
Please note some shots were taken from the lineside under the careful guidance of volunteers, from non-public location. I would like to say a massive thanks to all the staff and volunteers for this wonderful opportunity.

Hiya - At 1st that very steamy Loco at the beginning I thought / looked like a BR 2-6-4T Fowler Class 4P, but it wasn't!!! 🙂🚂🚂🚂

Go full S & D, Evening Star + 3 Southern Region rake. Or better and more unique, Crosti 9F + 3 Southern Region rake and yes there are a few photos of this if you dig deep enough. Keep up the good work and thank you.

Would certainly be a sight, but doubt that will happen as the stock mentioned (bar Evening Star of course) not longer exists. Crosti 9Fs never ran on S&D metals, though don't think that will stop me on my model of the line.

This line was part of the country run from Norton hill school. Just gravel then. Why on earth are you pulling a diesel?

All so-called heritage railways have to travel with another form of power instantly to hand when running on mainline metals. Don't know if it has to be a diesel unit or indeed not a second steam loco. I would imagine that this is in fact the case otherwise, which right-thinking accompanying "train captain [!]" wouldn't choose two beauties?
