Join Kenny of All Trades as he explores a dispersed campsite and faces some unexpected challenges with his scared dog. Watch as he navigates truck camping and dry camping in this outdoor adventure!
The kids are out of school and the roads were packed! The forest has as many mosquitos as the hwy has motorists, and it takes an hour to drive through town. Welcome to summer in Brainerd!
We celebrated Adelle's graduation Friday evening as she walked up to receive her diploma. It reminded me of how fast life is moving. I tell my girls that they can never move out of the house! I think my scared of growing up. At least I find comfort surrounded by nature. Time seems to stand still when I'm in the truck camper. I had a good time this weekend. I revisited a trashed campsite in the Pillsbury State Forest. This spot is only 15 minuets from Mandi's house. I should stay in this forest more often, but I have been running around this forest since I was in high school. I have found a number of campsites that look to have been occupied by folks squatting on the land. Because of its close proximity to Brainerd this forest is an easy place to crash when you burn all your bridges and have nowhere left to go. I have seen the conservation officer more in the last few years. I talked with him last year about the number of abandoned tents and campsites. The truth is there is not enough manpower to patrol the forest.
I arrived Saturday afternoon. I was surprised to see the forest was not being used. I located multiple dispersed campsites. I never made it to the horse campground, but I only saw 1 camper setup dispersed camping. I decided to settle in early Saturday. My back and neck were killing me. Sunday Toby and I decided to go on a walk. We got to a point on the road where he refused to go any further. I'm not sure what had him so frazzled. He was making a snorting sound and pinned his ears back.....he was not happy! Later that night Mandi and Tilli showed up. We shared supper and enjoyed the fire. Monday was a rainout...but that was OK. We got to spend time together and that's what really matters.
I hope you enjoy video. I'll keep you updated with what the surgeon says next week regarding the shoulder. Thanks for spending time with us this weekend!
Kenny
This last paragraph is for ranking in search results. I want to go full time truck camper living so one day I can go camping in the worst snowstorm. But even though camping in an extreme blizzard can be fun, its nothing compared to the excitement of camping in abandoned places. The bottom line is whether I'm camping in winter snowstorm, trying to figure out how to stay cool truck camping, or solo camping in heavy rain I'm doing what I love making truck camper camping videos.

Dogs are more sensitive to danger. My dog Happy alerted me to rattlesnakes. He was part bird dog so he would point and his tail stick straight out. He had a high pitched bark when it was dangerous. I traveled 187 acres, creeks, ponds, forest with that dog. What a great childhood I had.

The EXACT same thing happened with my dog on a walk in the woods in SE TN. We've walked there before with no problem, but this time, she really put the brakes on. I decided to listen to her and we headed back. Their sense of smell is far better than ours, so I was glad I had her along. She recently passed away at 14 and was half Great Pyrenees and half Australian Shepherd. Best dog ever. Greatly missed. 😞 (Edited to specify sense of smell.)

Always trust your puppy's instincts. Especially a pit , my pit and I were walking and we passed by some man and Champ was pulling me forward, that said man grabbed a knife and started walking towards me and Champ lunged for his arm to disarm him and then went for his neck , had the man on the ground until the cops showed up. But my point was Champ was leading me away because he knew something wasn't right before the man brandished his knife . My Pit was a K-9 for the Army . Amazing animal . He acted more like a human than a dog. You have an amazing Pit . He's absolutely beautiful.

Good boy, Toby! 🐶👍👍👍 We have two 80 pound Bouviers we take camping with us. They're very quiet and chill but go in protection mode fast if they sense danger. A similar situation happened when I was walking them in the woods one time. They were growling softly after stopping in their tracks. Didn't even question them and turned around without question and looked back just in time to see a black bear and her cub cross over the path (this was in the Shenandoah Valley in VA). Thank goodness for our protectors. Toby will keep taking care of you!

I think you were wise to listen to Toby. My dog once found scat from a predator on a private trail behind a cabin near Hinckley. I don’t know exactly what it was, as I don’t have that kind of knowledge, but it was almost entirely hair. Wolves are documented in the area, and my dog only weighed 35 lbs, so when she decided to turn around and hightail it to the cabin, I respected that. Years later, we were on a state park trail near Winona, and she did exactly what Toby did at a bend in the trail. Stared up ahead all stiff and alarmed. No wolves down there, I don’t think, but there are sometimes black bears in SE Minnesota. Like you, I decided to trust her keener senses and we turned around. Oh…and I loved Toby’s expression when you threw the bone into the woods. I could just see him thinking, “Now what in the heck did he do that for? People are weird.” Bet he went back for it when you weren’t looking! 😊

Good for you listening to your dog.i stumbled on a bear with a cub blackberry picking one time ignoring my dogs firm refusal to move forward into the blackberries. Lucky for me it was a mama bear who had been living around people for a while. She just froze while i backed away. Always listen to your dogs in the woods.

I walk in the woods with my two dogs every day. Once in a while my old farm dog will stop and turnaround to go back out of the woods. I always follow him and say thanks not today. We don’t have many bears around here but every so often they pass through. Good on ya Toby.❤️🇨🇦

Dogs usually don't turn around because of bears. There are more sinister things out there. As in Bigfoot & dogman. Millions of encounters are documented. And because of the rogue 3-letter agencies & their breeding programs, innocent people are being harassed, even killed, livestock taken etc. Look into it, it's true. The original purpose was for Vietnam war, they made "super-soldiers"/dogmen. Now they have gotten out of control, released in every state, and many are traumatized by these things. God Help Us All

I pick up trash along my road in my town too. I subscribed just because you are good enough people to do that too. When I was little, there was much less trash in the world, so it makes me sad. When I clean up, my heart feels so good and I feel like God is smiling at me. Thank you so much for helping the lovely world be free of human junk! People who throw trash are trash. There is no reason you can't keep plastic bags from grocery runs in your car to hold your trash. You don't have to throw it out the window or leave it behind. ADVENTURE RESPONSIBLY !! LEAVE NO TRACE!!

Dogs are always on point when it comes to danger. I have 2 Argentine mastiffs 140-150 lbs each and they will stop and point with a dead stare to any danger when camping, Always Keep your 454 casull on your hip and a pair of night vision/infrared goggles. Be safe. Great video. 🤟😎👍

Awesome video sir 👍 I always trusted my Alaskan malamutes, out on ice & in the wilderness a few times timely warnings. Once on a 8 mile hike my wife n I came out of the pines into a bog with 10ft high willows, my Tikaani froze, the fur head t tail straight up. She never growled but I circled my hand & we all backtracked out. I had to pull on her leash as she walked backwards over 30 ft. Still focus on the front direction we 2ere headed. I threw another deer steak on the BBQ for her that night. 74+🍁 hunter Yorkshire expat

Nice to see someone in tune with their dog. I see quite a few people in day to day life and on KZfaq, that have their dogs out and about, ignore the alert posture, and start yelling at or yanking the dog. Dogs know when something is amiss. Toby might've saved you some sort of problem over there.
