One thing I wanted to do for a while is having my black M6 checked out, especially when it comes to shutter speeds. I haven't used it a lot and I don't think that the camera hasn't seen any service in a long time or maybe it hasn't seen one at all. Video @ 18:00 "It's not bad - they're not precision shutters - close enough" - Humm, bless her little heart, I'm very happy to see a young person learning this specialized profession. Now, I'm a fairly well known technician in the U S A. Her Kyoritsu tester indicated very accurate 500th readings with this M6, BUT, one can ALSO achieve a just as accurate 1,000th ! - Many cameras including the Leica M cameras, have a separate adjusting 'lobe' that allows for WELL within specification 1,000th accuracy. Among other things, she also misspoke when she addressed elevating the speed "tighten the curtains" 16:26 - Actually, after proper lubrication, balancing both curtain tensions is next, THEN the 'Slit-Width' properly adjusts the high speeds, not the tensioning... Video @ 26:04 "maybe by ONE stop" - Wow, that's a lot ! - This too can be adjusted to PERFECT accuracy in the M6. Accessible once the top-plate is removed, there are two variable resistors just below the advance lever. - Again, bless her heart for doing what she obviously loves to do. But maybe a 'brush-up' course or continuing education will help her to master a 'Perfectionist' reputation in this profession. - Remember, Leicas are the Rolls Royce of the industry; and the demands for excellence are a bit more elevated with its customers...

Hi, I’m Jess from Viva La Film Thank you so very much for this info! I’m completely self told and backwards engineering a lot of what I do and I only started working on leicas cameras 4 months ago, when I acquired the manuals and tool for all Leica repairs. I’ve spend the last three months teaching my self this models with the kindness of trusting costumers and intermittent help from a retired Olympus technician that has been guiding me on maters I don’t yet understand. If you had some available time, I would love to chat with you, buy you a coffee , and video call you, I have so many questions and really no resources available here in Sydney. It will mean the world to me to have your guidance. Kind regards

Just finished the video and gotta say one of the best I've ever watched. My only comment would be that she was interrupted a lot when she was explaining things and I feel like everything out her mouth is invaluable. Helped me understand my leica m3 issues. I get weird light vertical patches on my film sometimes. At different positions on the film. One roll was so bad it was more like a vertical patches of good exposure. It was so strange. Also I remember estimating looking back that these shots were all around the 1000 or 500 shutter speeds. I wonder what oil is good for this besides wd40 or olive oil.

20:45 haha, around 15 years ago I had a Canon QL17 with a sticky aperture ring and as the complete idiot that I was, I tried to fix it with some random oil I found in my grandfather's garage. It fixed the sticky ring, but now the aperture itself didn't move. So I went to a camera repair shop and the guy told me: "Yeah well congratulations! That's a camera and not a tractor!" and refused to fix it.

Nice episode - viva la film and her cameras! The Voigtländer Superb is a real beauty, but the Rolleiflex also has parallax correction, already in the thirties, when these two were competing. Actually, Franke & Heidecke had a trial going on against their former employee Voigtländer for their claim to have the only TLR with parallax correction in the market. Also, the different film traveling in the Superb is due to a patent held by Rollei.

Ok, ok... Old stuff has a lot of mojo, but let's be clear : film cameras are noticeably less durable than digital ones in terms of number of shots you can take before breaking down. Good luck taking even 50k pictures with a film camera. The shutter will loose its precision long before that, let alone the winding mechanism that will break first. Will a Sony still be here after 80 years? Probably not. But what is the point? Stone age axes will resist several millennia with less harm that any steel axe, are they better tools?
@y2ktube
@y2ktube Жыл бұрын
"shutter will loose its precision long before that, let alone the winding mechanism that will break first" - Haha 🤣 - Talk about truly naïve comments... I fix/service cameras & lenses that exceed 80 years of age. BY FAR, modern AF lenses and Pro level digital cameras are commonly rendered as PAPERWEIGHTS😎
@Francois15031967
@Francois15031967 Жыл бұрын
@@y2ktube you fix them because they're broken. Digital cameras become paperweights because they're obsolete, not because they're broken, or become paperweights after 200k shots. Good luck shooting as much with any mechanical body. Oh, of course if you repair it every 20k it will last one millenium 🤡

@@Francois15031967 His DELETED comment :"because they're broken" Hey "Francois" the genius, I service cameras for true film Pros that have owned their Leica's since the sixties. Quality manual cameras DON'T break, they're serviced (a Rolex vs. a Casio). In fact, I RARELY have the need to replace parts in a 1930's 40's 50's 60's or 70's Leica camera, so get off your "200K cycles" propaganda garbage.😂 Another DELETED comment :"Digital cameras become paperweights because they're obsolete" Obsolete ? Yeah right "Francois", tell that to a customer who bought their $1,200 Sigma AF tele JUST 7 years ago and the company says that they NO LONGER support that model (no parts!). The SAME for the folks that bought a $9,000 Nikon AF super tele! - So genius, those HighDollar teles & zooms are all "obsolete" now? Yeah, more like obsoleted by the manufacture ! - Finally, look-up on Ebay all the PLASTIC shutter block units for sale (yes that's what they're made of). All your 'Durable' DSLR's are dropping like flies, mainly because the 'modern' photographer fires off pictures like they're in a shooting gallery. ANY Leica M shutter kits or assemblies on Ebay? NO...😎

@@y2ktube Oh Rolex are sooo collectable. Leica, too. Good ol' Canon F1 are less sexy but, hey! Still pretty chunky pieces of history. Maybe a Nikon F like one of those strapped on Dennis Hopper's neck in Apocalypse Now? Yeah. Mojo. Like I've said, they're serviceable, you can repair them, you'll have to if you use them.
