@@travisburnett5685 techincially it was only the front half of his foot that was amputated. He still had his ankle and heel which is why he was able to get around so well . If his entire foot had been amputated he would not have been able to get around as well and probably would not have been able to wrestle near as well if at all.

2 Things. 1. Butus The Barber Beefcake was one of the biggest stars in the WWF at the time, and when I say "one of," I mean top 4 or 5. Worst part of wrestling podcasts is the revisionist history. And 2., I don't know anyone who watched it who thought it was a bad match. It's one of those matches that you remember every move in it. Piper's commentary was fantastic. Huge moment.

the match was short, and entertaining. perfect looked like a million bucks with that neon singlet, tanned, and with that shiny IC title belt. Hennig sold very well for Kerry, and that was the point. To make Von Erich look like a legit threat in a somewhat squash, that Hennig couldn't prepare for on short notice. Kerry was very over the entire time he was in the company. See the pop at Survivor Series 90, Royal Rumble 91, and Royal Rumble 92. And it was very obvious the WWF fans knew who Von Erich was. The minute he came in and challenged Perfect, he was perceived as a threat just from his past accolades alone. Wished his IC reign was a little longer. Had he been around in the mid 90s still, he likely would have had another IC reign or a tag reign with another superstar. Von Erich was an asset, even with the foot issue.

Beefcake beat Perfect at WM6 - his first televised loss. Perfect then wins the tournament for the vacated IC title while Brutus craps out early. Beefcake was meant to finally get the IC belt after years of near-misses and finish the feud with Perfect. Conrad is asking why the match wasn't better and if Kerry had really lost that much in losing his foot and wrestling with a prosthesis. It's pretty obvious if you watch pre-amputation Kerry vs post-amputation Kerry - Kerry was nowhere near as athletic or as mobile after the amputation and it showed. That's why he didn't have very many really good matches in the WWF. It just wasn't possibly with his athletic and mobility limitations. It was basically a testament to Kerry that he was able to comeback at all after the amputation but he was absolutely never anywhere close to the same in the ring. Also, I've heard it said that Hennig was not happy about losing the title to Kerry, really didn't want to work with Kerry at all and went out of his way to give Kerry a hard time during their feud in the WWF.

I can't believe I'm saying this but even "the worm" was better than the claw. No disrespect, but Kerry didn't seem too bright either. Davey Boy ( R.I.P. ) would have been a better opponent for Kurt ( R.I.P. ), similar to Bret & Davey Boy. Both Kurt & Davey were technicians, Kurt was no slouch in the strength department & Kurt's agility vs Davey's power would have been great match up.

Vince always believed wrestling fans were stupid, and always felt they knew nothing about other promotions such as World Class. When in fact it was McMahon himself who never watched wrestling from anywhere.

He certainly did his best to make sure his viewers knew nothing about other promotions, so that was a self reinforcing belief if there ever was one. The most self defeating aspect of that stupid rule was when Ric Flair came in with the NWA belt. Instead of hyping this as a title unification bout opportunity with Hogan they dismissed it as baseless personal claim like DiBiase's Million Dollar Belt.

@@IrishCarney McMahon's was even ignoring "WWWF" history at the time run under his father. Whereas, his hatred for the NWA and refusal to acknowledge the organization hurt the buildup for Hogan-Flair that consequently end with the Wrestlemania switch to Flair wrestling Randy Savage. But we know this won't be the first time Vince put his weird vendetta over making a boat load of money.

@michael cooper Or Vince pushing Tony Atlas as Saba Simba and Ricky Steamboat as just the Dragon just a year or two after their first run respectively. F#ck Vince....never liked that asshole.

@@jrupp8853 I was so glad that when they introduced "Saba Simba" that Roddy Piper in the announcement booth said, in an almost scornful tone, "that's Tony Atlas."

@@jrupp8853 Here it is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ga1lf6xim57WcqM.html At least Vince acknowledged it was Tony Atlas tried to have a kayfabe explanation, that Atlas was proud of his heritage and had his name legally changed. The idea I guess was that once that was thrown out there one time for the debut they would never mention it again. But it's better than the usual zero effort to explain a sudden total gimmick overhaul.

The Claw may have been stupid when the father "Fritz von Erich" used it as part of his goose stepping Na zi gimmick. But it was especially stupid once Fritz turned face and somehow (how?) turned his kayfabe self into something more closely matching what he really was: a Texas patriarch of a family of good ol' boys. "The Claw" makes no sense as a finisher for a cowboy.

Why does anyone still acknowledge Dave Meltzers rating and opinions, like he's some official judge? He's a mark that's been allowed way to much opinionated power. He's about as sad as the geek in a wizards cloak that oversees D&D games.
