I am 40 and want to learn judo. But they say that there are no groups for people my age. Only for kids or professional sportsmen. I have no idea what to do, it's a discrimination!
@unclejiraiya3582 Жыл бұрын
It's not discrimination, its just not common for most to do judo after 35, because of injuries.

Who is they ? That’s crazy. I estimate 25 % of my adult are 40 or older

@@unclejiraiya3582 Are there no injuries before 35? Are there no injuries in karate, bjj, sambo or other martial arts where they take people after 40? Are there no injuries in other types of sport? There are, a lot. But they don't consider themselves as something special. And they are more dangerous than judo. Hiding behind such words is the same as saying 'women can't do judo because we don't want them to get injured'. It's called agism. Hapkido trainer said once that noone had injures at his classes exept of one little toe injury. And hapcido is much more dangerous considering injuries. You are not afraid for kids do be injured teaching them correctly. But for adults, you don't want to teach them. I tell you what is the problem - judo trainers don't want to teach judo, they want their students to take part in competition and earn money and glory that way. Every person can do any sport at any age. There are so many people starting judo or karate at 40, 60 or even 80. So don't tell it's because of injuries. Judo as an art is for ALL ages. And as a sport as well.

@@nickyonezuka-cranfordjkc4931 It's a city in Ukraine, a part of national ukrainian federation. IAnd this is a big city, over million people, but trainer say they don't teach new adults judoka but also they don't even have dressroom for women in adults classes. And what should I do? I have no idea. I decided to move to another place, and such discrimination was one of my reasons. But it's unfair, they do agism to people! How can I change it? I asked them what I have to do but they simply ignore me! How is that possible in sport? I can't belive it. It should be changed. I have called other trainers in other cities and they say they don't train people over 40 'because they don't come'. Not because they have no classes. That is victim blaming. And what should I do? Dancing classes? Or simply go to the gym? That's not what I want.

Hey I started Judo at 58, it’s hard, started Jiu Jitsu at 59. At a good dojo ( and I’m lucky I found one), you can go at your own pace. I will sometimes bow out of randori, and that’s cool. I’m now a 3rd brown belt, at 65. The biggest benefit, as I age, my world just keeps getting bigger.
