Parts of this video made me cry. I love this movie. Has the best music. When christopher reeve passed i cried. Seeing how the hotel looks now and it all still really looks the same as in the movie. Being able to go to this would be a bucket list item for me. Maybe one day I can afford that trip. You guys are so lucky to have experienced this. Its amazing.

My uncle died at 75 a few months ago. That's NOT that much older than me! So for my next, I'll go on a train there (as much as I can, I'm in a big city, but I don't know what happens on the MI side as to how far the dock is) Opening weekend is "reasonable." Meaning like 250/night on the low side. Which Hawaii was 10 years ago in early May. Costco had a package for 2,500 total for 6 days, I think it was. Plane, car and hotel w free breakfast (a real one, not stale bagels) Closing weekend is a bit more, during the party and such. I think 3 days was like 1,200 total. For the lower end. Not sure I'd need a balcony in either April or October, but it would be beautiful anyway. Might just do it. Lol

I worked on the Island for a summer (at the hotel where the theater was) and years later my wife and I got married on the Island at the Inn at Stonecliffe. Mackinaw Island has been a place of wonder and adventure since my youth. Would love to attend this event...just need to convince my wife. Haha! You did an amazing job capturing the event as well as a brief tour of some cool spots on the Island. Well done. You both looked great!

@@Nostalgette Yeah, but you CAN drive to the dock. Your car or motorcycle (even packed full for camping) should be very safe. It was when I went in the 90s. I plan to get a train with a private room for the 13 hours. Lewis Grizzard always talked about how great trains are (he died, but he was hilarious) and it stuck. Not sure what happens at the train station, though...how far to the dock...

Thank you for Sharing this vlog! My boyfriend was the one who told me about this movie and I instantly loved it! I am currently reading the novel. When I saw it was a Richard Matheson novel I just knew I had to read it. Which mentions The Hotel Del Coronado Hotel 2 hours south of me. I know I will visit there soon but I would just love to do this Somewhere In Time weekend! How magical it looks. The movie always brings me to tears it’s so beautiful. We are in Southern California one of these days I will get there.

I’m confused about the orchestra. If everyone is dressed in early 1900s clothing and this convention is based on “Somewhere in Time”, then why is the orchestra playing 1940s type music? The entire experience should be based in early 1900s especially considering the cost in that hotel. That being said, thanks for posting this great video. I’d love to do this one day and it’s on my bucket list for sure.

What a great video! Was the little theater on that land,or did they make it up? Was there more then one location to visit? Your dresses were marvelous, the nicest there ! The hotel could have given the dinner band some costumes. The people looked nice. Some of them looked like they go every year and maybe live near there. The hotel itself is beautiful as I imagined it still was.But it seemed more of the staff could have been in character,or maybe they could have sprinkled a couple of actors in there to push the mood in the right direction. The men look so nice in the clothes from that era.And once more, you and your friend,,those dresses were just gorgeous!!!Ive never seen nicer, and I look at those a LOT on the sites that sell them.
