Performance 8 July 2018.
Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso from a West African griot family. First in a tradition that is several centuries old, in which the Kora mastery was exclusively passed down from father to son. Since the release of her album 'Fasiya', she is justifiably praised, both as an instrumentalist and vocalist.
Live, she is accompanied by four musicians
Sona Jobarteh: kora, vocals
Andi McLean: bass
Mouhamadou: Sarr percussion
Derek Johnson: guitar
Westley Joseph:drums

I got to see her sing this last year. I swear, the whole set was awe inspiring. Sona! You are positiveky regal! Honestly, you carry yourself with such dignity, every word you speak is wrapped in silk, your voice when speaking is calm like a river. The joy your music has blessed me with will never leave me ❤

For those non-pula (non-fulani, non-peul) people Gainaako simply means one who looks after livestock; a livestock rearer or generally a herdsman. Thanks oh Sona for the gentle and beautiful song. The serenity of the song captures and depicts the gentleness of the pula as a people. I'm Fulani from Nigeria. I love you.
