Sir, we can make an air balloon 15km long by welding HDPE sheets and before inflating that, we will put another arch shaped HDPE layer to fill water inside. First we shall fill the inner layer with compressed air to form the shape then we pour water on the top layer. After freezing the water layer. We can remove the compressed air layer through which vehicles can pass. This will be safe and budget friendly for years.

Dear Mr Sonam Wangchuk, I suggest that you use Thermocol waste for scaffolding and then use cotton or felt waste from cotton mills and paper mills as the soaking layer. I am fully aware that Thermocol is not environment friendly but it will be strong enough as scaffolding for the dry and wet cotton till it condenses in ice arch and it can be shrink in size and can be removed from under the ice arch ( while maintaining the arch) by simply spraying acetone onto the Thermocol and carved out arch ( prefabricated elsewhere or on site can then be left with biodegradable cotton and felt lining with ice arch superstructure which will hold itself for the winter snowfall and avalanche season. I know that Thermocol is not environment friendly and not biodegradable but if the cotton and felt scaffolding were to last through the winter the problem is solved. On the other hand if condensed ice permeating through the porous scaffolding hold out even in summer, that would be a blessing in disguise. This still leaves the problem of acetone. It will evaporate in air sucked into the atmosphere. During spraying of acetone human exposure can be avoided by using protective gear and masks. Reusing Thermocol cotton and felt waste versus using acetone and the shrunken Thermocol are the pros and cons that can be worked out during the experimenting stage. I am a medical doctor and not a chemical engineer but I am talking Science here not superstition. Wish you the best of luck.

As an engineer my thoughts flowed as follows: Let the supporting former (or frame/equivalent ) remain in place, throughout the winter. It should be planned to be out side the"breadth of the road". It will allow vehicles to pass. 1)When the ice starts melting, the melted ice will not be melting uniformly. It will be uneven and unpredictable. At such time, the supporting frame will bear the load of the melting ice/water. 2) Also, in the event of an avalanche, the supporting frame will bear the weight to some extent, and allow time for help to come in. 3) There should be luminous markers at the ends of the tunnel, which can be seen by drivers. Markers of "danger/attention ( exclamation mark inside triangle) " will be additional help. 4) Maybe a speed limit too is required. Otherwise, the wind will create a force (much like a plane on a runway) and shake the tunnel itself. Slow speed will reduce this possibility. It's a great idea and I wish all success to such an innovative venture.

Good idea but we want to be considere some factors like 1 TEMPERATURE: if temperature will rise the parabolic arc structure is loss it's strength by water convert it's solid form to liquid form and it is collapses. 2 QUANTITY OF SNOW ABOVE THE TUNNEL: if the quantity of snow is more then load carrying capacity of parabolic ice structure then it will chance to collapse. 3 AVALANCHE INTENSITY: if avalanche intensity is too high then parabolic ice structure will chance to collapse. 4 EARTHQUAKE is also make damages to ice structure. Parabolic Ice structure is not stand properly, it is too risky. In the combination of ice structure and modern structures like concrete, rcc, steel and masonry is good. modern technology is carry load and distribute properly and it stand stable.
