The fact that he wanted to sing as high as Kotipelto says something about what an influence Timo is to the metal scene.

I really wish that Sonata kept the heaviness and bright production of previous albums. The more relaxed songwriting isn't an issue, it's that all of the elements in the mix just feel thin and dull. I wish I could get the stems for the album and mix it myself so that I could enjoy listening to it more.

Twenty years ago, the Finnish difficult scene was impressive and encouraging, giving rise to many melodic and inventive teams. Among this wave there were many different artists, but all of them, one way or another, were united by a craving for melodies and hits. In the Power Metal environment, Nightwish and Sonata Arctica stood out most favorably. And there is nothing surprising in the fact that, after more than twenty years, this wave of Finnish nuggets died out, many groups broke up, and the brightest representatives changed their sound. Back in the days of Reckoning Night, Sonta Arctica began to show interest in more complex sounds, and on Unia they banged their heads in Progressive Metal, which was not so popular in the band before. Personally, I associate the decline in the group’s popularity with this period because, in addition to changing the course and logo, one of the most important participants broke away from the group - Jani Liimatainen, who, thanks to his technique, added dynamics to the music, providing the Sonata Arctica hits with an impressive share of drive. Alas, he took this energy with him to his projects, and the artisan Elias Viljanen, who was previously noted by little-known solo works, replaced him. "The Days of Grays" was no longer as hit as its predecessors, and "Stones Grow Her Name" contained too many experiments. The army of fans gradually began to thin out, as a result of which a deceptive maneuver was carried out with the return of the previous logo on the album "Pariah's Child". I repeat, the maneuver was deceiving, because the music itself did not closely resemble the early work of the collective. Well, from that moment on, Sonata Arctica finally turned into something absurd, reminiscent of either an upset violin, or a boxer who went on the run, who agrees to the last match solely for the sake of money, and not victory. "Talviyö" can be called the third album in a series of sluggish and crumpled releases. Actually, the very first track "Message From The Sun" already meets the listener with a dull guitar sound, which is more like a boring neighbor. And for me, this aspect is already critical, because the sound on the album seems very dim, like the light of a dying candle. Make the guitar juicier - and the colorfulness of the melodies would be noticeably brighter. Nice ear samples, like on "Storm The Armada", at first give the impression of something breakthrough, but are ruined by plain-looking refrains. In general, starting with "Reckoning Night", the group took as a basis to overload the songs with lyrics and vocal lines, which seems to provide an opportunity for the liberation of the vocalist, but Tony Kakko, alas, seemed to be a victim of a vampire who sucked all his life energy out of him, and therefore potentially The deep and touching "The Last Of The Lambs" sounds very sleepy. It seems that Kakko recorded the vocals while lying in bed and counting the sheep. Suddenly, the frisky and peppy "Ismo’s Got Good Reactors" is just as ruined by a nondescript guitar sound. Fortunately, there is no vocals in the track, which ruthlessly returns to the "Demon’s Cage", strangling the listener with pseudo-pompous frills. And further - everything is only more boring and boring. As a result, only after 20-30 minutes comes the realization that the album has long ended, and it’s time to include something else. So the disc turned out to be quiet and timid. The main problem of this album for me is that being a fan of Sonata Arctica, I do not feel like the target audience for whom this music was written. The devil knows, maybe the musicians don’t feel happy creating songs in the Metal genre, and would like to compose something really sincere and soft, but due to the need for survival, they continue to bend the old line. But no matter how much the rope twists, and the end will be ... One way or another, the album does not cause any positive emotions. Not that he evokes negative emotions, but rather brings annoyance from the category: “Damn it, again by!” It is ridiculous, but this annoyance has been lasting for no more than ten years. But for some wacky reason, I keep listening to the new Sonata Arctica records over and over again, although I don’t know what I expect from these Finnish wizards. As the saying goes: "The mice cried, but continued to eat a cactus." 4/10

No content or showing that you know ANYTHING of what you're crying about. So you're another know feck all about nothing having a tantrum on social media because she's not getting her own way. Let me guess the reason you have 0 content is because you suck at music whether it be playing it or singing it so you write a page dissing people and being a jealous b***h of people who have more talent than you. Well I hope you deflecting your own crap here was worth it for you, you overgrown child brat of a female.

Defending Jani as the only important band member in Sonata Arctica when 1- Marko Paasikoski is the founding member of Tricky Beans (that later became Sonata Arctica) 2- The composer of all but 2 songs is Tony Kakko. Let me guess: you are Chilean, or Argentinean, or Mexican... well, it doesn't matter which country you are from, IT IS from the spanish speaking part of Latin America. That's how predictable you are. Now you can go back to bed and cry about how unfair life is because all your favourite Power Metal bands are not playing Power Metal anymore...

I love Sonata Arctica I don’t agree with everything Tonys decided to do with the band but I respect his decisions I just wish that they would return to their old style but some of their albums like the ninth hour and days of gray are good to And let’s not forget paroths child that’s probably the closest to their old style

Genuine fans would've listened and watched the interview unlike the 2 selfish brats in the comment section wanting Tony to bend the knee for them like he owes them to do so. No, he doesn't and if you don't like something grow up and move on not type a page crying that you're not getting your own way like an overgrown child.

I just hope he finds a way to write better, more energetic songs again. I don't feel anything while listening to the new album. It's sad, but I think it's the most boring and uninteresting one they ever did. I also hope they will manage to finally get a better mix again like in Unia, Days of Grays, Reckoning Night. But I wish the guys all the best for the future.

An obvious way to tell that some of you didn't watch the video and it's in the description, Tony doesn't read comment sections. The reason he doesn't is that the people who are trashing Sonata Arctica don't have the emotional capability to accept change and a few of you have proved him right by not even watching the video. Look at your life then look at Tony's life, do that before judging him or anyone for that matter.

If you know that Tony doesnt read comments why you trash people for having an opinion? I think you are failing to understand that this band in the early days changed alot of lifes! What they did (and im sure you cant deny this) was extremely awesome! Thats why after all this years and even knowing that it Will never be the same you Will always expect a glimpse of greatness from this guys :/ I consider my self a hardcore fan and i always found a few songs that a like even in the new albums but they lost me here, it all feels rushed and too safe. It cant be posible that albums 10 years older have better sound :(

@@aldovinuela1144 why don't you grow up and stop expecting people to live up to YOUR expectations. It's not their fault that YOU expect them to create what YOU want. No you're not a hardcore fan. A hardcore fan would care that they are doing what makes them happy which you quite obviously bloody don't so go worship a band who will bow down to your expectations. Bloody hell what a selfish brat you are. They don't need "fans" like you.

@@aldovinuela1144 you don't create content, you only have an account to whinge in comment sections wanting others to create what YOU want not what makes them happy. What you're failing to do is to grow up and realise that people don't have to live up to yours or anyone's expectations and to even think people should live up to YOUR expectations is immature and selfish and shows who YOU are as a human being having an attitude such as yours. Grow the hell up sincerely.

We accept it, but we don't like it. Latest albums are trash and dull af. Tony says that people who trash their music don't have the emotional capability, etc, but that is bs. We all could relate with amazing songs such as Shy, Letter to Dana, and other mellow ballad songs from SA, the reason we liked them was not necessarily the message alone, but also the way it sounded. Music, beyond all things, is sounds, not lyrics. If you make shit music with nice lyrics the music will still be trash. So while we could relate to the lyrics, the sound itself is crap.

I understand when he says that he prefers to sing more naturally. But come one, that does not have to mean that he can't sing the old songs live anymore. If you go and check the setlists of the last tour, you will not see any Winterheart's Guild or Reckoning Night song on, and I think that's bullshit. Imagine if Metallica decides to stop singing songs from the 3 first albums. More than a half of the audience of groups like Sonata Arctica or Metallica comes to the shows to listen to the older material.
