It's so insightful hearing from the actors about those that endure the alien costumes and how painful they are. It's a tribute to the actors that they appear on screen to inhabit them so easily. Discovery had its flaws - what Trek show doesn't? It also had its detractors, so did TNG in its time. So did Enterprise, so our D-Con crew can relate. But Discovery relaunched the franchise for another generation, for which we can be grateful. "When do I live?" I am sure anyone who has worked long hours and run a household and raised children and tried to have a life too, can relate to that. Dom, my sincerest felicitations and best wishes 🥂 Catch you next week.

I only started to like ENT towards the end - specifically season 4. This wasn't the fault of the actors though. The writers in seasons 1-3 were just not up to scratch. Bringing in actual Star Trek book authors to write the episodes helped *a lot* for the show. Unfortunately, it was too late. And then with Braga sticking his fingers in on the last episode and making it an entire holodeck series just was insulting for everyone at the time. Sonequa helped really solidify her character fairly early on. She is compelling as an actress. Her, Michelle, Jason, and the Marys (Chieffo and Wiseman) just had insanely good chemistry. I felt Discovery had technical and continuity issues in the first couple seasons, but the acting was more compelling. After the jump to the future, the technical and continuity issues were more or less gone. But, the acting was substantially subdued vs the earlier seasons. So, half of my concerns left and a new set of concerns took their place. That said, I don't see this as an actor or actress problem. I see this as a show runner and directorial set of issues. So, my hat's off to the entire DSC cast. Doug I recently saw in something I didn't expect to see him in at the time which just floored me: Pencil Head in the movie "Mystery Men" who also had "Son of Pencil Head" as his sidekick. I almost fell out of my chair from laughing and shock. TNG and DS9 didn't really get their footing until season 3. But, by then, they'd already had 78 episodes each. Discovery almost got to that by the end. I think if Enterprise had another season, it could have recovered (assuming Braga stayed out of the writing). Discovery could have also soared so much higher with another 2 seasons. Still, Dominic and Connor were the major ones I felt were believable in Enterprise. As much as I like Scott, I just kept expecting to see him leap into his next life because he just seemed to be temporarily inhabiting his character's body. Jolene I really wish they'd not hypersexualized her (this is also the same argument I have about Seven and Deanna). Women are intelligent and full of agency without all that nonsense that the show runners thought they needed to get the audience. I like that the series runners didn't make the mistake that TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT made by treating their women as people and not sex objects. It allowed Georgiou, Burnham, Tilly, and L'Rell to really showcase their acting talents on merit. That was awesome.

Great show, you three! Thank you! I go way back with TREK (back to the original series and have watched every TREK in its first run) and came to DISCOVERY late (season 3) after hearing so much negative fan buzz about it. When I finally went back and watched the first two seasons, I could not for the life of me understand what all the whining and moaning was about. Yes, there were flaws, same as any TREK series, but as with those, the overall vision and energy and the solid acting and the visual beauty of the show FAR FAR FAR transcended any minor nits anyone could pick. Just love it and I hate so much that there won't be a season six (or seven). I still consider season two of Discovery one of the five best single seasons of ANY Trek series. Sonequa had one of the most beautifully-acted scenes I've EVER seen in TREK. It was one of the season two episodes (sorry, but for as much as I loved it when I saw it, I can't remember which specific episode or more than vague generalities about the scene): Burnham has just had an argument with Spock, and as she's in her quarters reeling from it, an announcement comes that she's to report to the bridge, and the way Sonequa played that moment was just amazing... just this flash on her face and through her body like a speechless "are you fcuking kidding me?" followed by her taking a breath, literally straightening her uniform and responding "I'm on my way." It was no more than two seconds, but in that moment it just felt like she'd distilled the essence of the character and the character's story and struggle and arc into ONE MOMENT. Jawdropping. It was when she became one of my favorite TREK characters and actors ever. Wow. Now I feel like I want to binge through the whole run of shows again ;) Thanks again!

Glad Dom has been doing his research. For Enterprise to lose 10M viewers in 3 weeks just shows how important it is not to deviate from the TNG, DS9, VOY formula. 1) Moral to the story The most obvious difference is the writing. Theater actors should have felt keenly the lack of messaging in episodes since most plays have a message, a moral to the story; at least the good ones. It wasn't just an empty action-filled procedural. Action is only a means to the messaging end. Not sure what the message for Enterprise was. Xindi arc was good but it was really hard to believe Archer's success rate when our tech and knowledge of the quadrant were so nascient. Would have been more believable if Daniels was giving Archer a leg up. But he was there and gone without being fully utilized. 2) Kickass characters The leads were not only good people but kickass Starfleet officers. Discovery did Burnham dirty by making her a mutineer in the pilot and a bad one at that because she was wrong and then got her beloved captain killed. Compare that to Picard whose diplomacy in the pilot gets him freed from an omnipotent Q's kangaroo court. DS9's pilot has Sisko rebuilding DS9 while also rebuilding himself after his losing his wife, Dax finds the wormhole, and Kira defends it with brinksmanship "there's your wormhole Jissad!" VOY does Janeway a little sloppy by letting her take the fall for stranding the ship in the Delta quadrant but it fits with Starfleet's moral compass and the needs of the plotline for the series. Enterprise's pilot is mixed. Archer does succeed but he also does a lot of complaining that the Vulcans have been holding us back and being passive aggressive overall to Vulcans including T'Pol who actually helped him get out of spacedock. It's jarring when canon has said that they have always been our friends and we're used to the Kirk/Spock bromance. That being said later episodes were redeeming with the Vulcan/ Andorian episodes and the T'Pau arc. But your pilot is your first impression.

I love Discovery. Obviously I'm not a typical (complaining) Trek fan. New Trek looks so beautiful; the widescreen and the effects make modern TV on par with movies these days. Actually I prefer TV these days as movies have such a limited time frame they often seem so shallow compared to how characters are allowed to develop and build personalities. Movies are like fast-food whereas TV is more like a decent three, four or five course meal (who has those!!?!). I'm not convinced Trek ever needs to be in theatres. I'd rather see them continue to produce good looking TV shows. Shame Trek fandom tends to be so stuck in the past; ironic really. Anyway, it was never a hindrance to Discovery that Mrs MG is stunningly attractive; my only complaint... that name was always an odd choice to me, and I always thought actually calling the character Michelle would have been a nice (albeit loose) call back to one of the pioneers that showed TV audiences that race is of no consequence, and Trek was at the forefront of this revolution on the small screen. Anyway, excellent show, shame it's finished. And I agree that there being no reference to Enterprise in that final scene neither makes sense, and is a little disrespectful to Trek's history (an observation rather than a full blown complaint).
