1st September 2020 - schools start reopening...
I thought that this was a good day to celebrate, in song, the great achievements of our Minister for Education. I dedicate it to Amy, Helen, and both Alices, and all other teachers still at the rock face. And I thank Messrs. Gilbert & Sullivan for providing the template. I don't usually like parodying other writers' material, but just occasionally it fits the situation. With optional subtitles.

Dillie, absolutely brilliant, spot on as always with all your political songs, thank you for some truth, home truths that are lacking in UK society today. I couldn't agree more with the sentiments expressed in the lyrics of this song, set to the tune of a well known Gilbert and Sullivan classic, from the pirates of Penzance.

This is excellent! I hope to see more of these videos. This kind of thing is about the only thing that makes me proud to be British at the moment. The musical style that this lady performs is a precious part of our history, and it wonderful to hear it made relevant to the current situation. I think that the previous Dominic Cummings video was an absolute barnstormer, sung with great passion and poignancy, and I hope that there will be many more in the same vain.

Wish this lady had been my teacher. A specifically british kind of wit is on display. Fellow non-brits and youngish folks: if you don't know, it's a piggy back song based on a number by Gilbert and Sullivan, who wrote comic operas. Thanks, smart lady i don't know, for bringing creativity and humor to the fight against cravenness and ignorance.

Thanks Ken, I don't think I'd have been much of a teacher. I'd have been rubbish, in fact. I'm actually a performer and writing satirical songs is my trade! I don't usually write parodies as I like to write my own music, but I occasionally allow myself to use a Gilbert & Sullivan tune as they were the masters - and they're out of copyright!
