when the beautiful south split up it upset me a fair bit im fairly young and grew up with both my parents loving the housemartins and bs and then they split and it dawned no chance of any new music they were and will remain in my heart as some of the best musicians ever!!

I met them about the same time period in Wolverhampton. We're having a pre concert pint in a pub next to the Civic. When Paul and the boys walk in. Started chatting to them and they were sound. Had to laugh when they told us they had to be on stage in 20 minutes and they were sitting in the boozer. We left the pub at the same time and they went straight on stage. Class gigs back then. Moved out to Canada and saw them for the first time in 12 years in Toronto in 2006. Then they went and split.

I think comparing these to the Beatles is a little silly... but I must confess I recall three of them doing the lead singing for various songs, and they were all excellent. Very strong band. Of course the Housemartins were epic too. :D
