(Spoilers ahead) Regarding 35:46 - It's true that Songbird doesn't call V, but if you chose the path to help her, she actually left a secret recording for V with her message in it. Players can find it on City Center where her van was parked

Sure. But I think what people wanted was to know that she's ok at least. The video and the text don't say much about her fate on the moon. Wich is kinda the point, Songbird's fate is shrouded in mystery. My guess is that she traded one cage for another...

@@TheMrblessed I mean she did send V a souvenir from Luna which hints that she's ok there. Plus, further contact can just hint the corps, especially Militech on what both V and Song are doing and where they're currently at. Remember, V have also become an enemy of Militech.

@@TheMrblessed Agreed, whoever helped Song wasn’t doing it for free and only the rogue AIs or the Corps have the access/resources to save So Mi on the Moon. Hard to say who has her now, but she’s certainly not just flying freely. They’re keeping her around for a reason

@@beige_projection Yeah, that Quantum Tuner can't come cheap, and the souvenir tells V she at least has some access to civilian life, all in all she's trying to send the message that she's doing ok and is safe. I'd also like to think that Songbird took an uncharacteristic risk in getting V the souvenir and the cyberware. She was selfish the entire way, and only at the very end of her ending did V succeed in cracking Songbird's shell and getting her to admit that there's only 1 cure. V gave up on what they came here for in an entirely altruistic act to save Songbird, and so Songbird tried, illogically so, to at least reciprocate a little when there's no reason for her to do so, and it's touching. Maybe if V survives in one of the open endings, at some point they can meet on Luna as friends? We can at least hope.

@@ralk7048 There is soooo much to speculate and that's exactly why CDPR did this. I found the chip in the alley on accident when I was roaming around on foot and traced back the time I had to meet in the van. Funny it was inside a noodle box. The chip is a pre-recording, seemingly anticipating V's success in helping So Mi and thanked her for it. Seems it only appears if you help Song get to the moon. The small canister with the tuner, shows traces of lunar dust on it. At first, I thought. wait... is she here already!? But then I imagined Songbird may have commissioned someone to stash the item in between the couch for a fee. You received one text message, presumably from Song, due to what the message said (but entirely possible the messenger may have been instructed to contact V with that specific message attached before wiping any traces to reply). After watching Edgerunners, thinking of Lucy on the moon, I hoped Songbird is sharing a similar conclusion to her story. Finally free.

I couldnt possibly side with Reed. I think those who judge Songbird so harshly tend to forget one key factor. The entire timeline of V's problem with the biochip happens in less than a year and yet V has lied and killed their way through this and becomes very visibly worn out pretty quickly into the story by the whole shenanigan and rightfully so. however Songbird has been dealing with her issues for YEARS and if you know anything of the lore of blackwall you'd know that the faulty biochip shocks doesnt even come close to it. It's beyond me how anyone could judge her for wanting to survive years of the mental torture that was dealing with the blackwall. She has every right to want to survive as V has. Everybody in Night City is fighting to survive and to expect Somi to just make that sacrifice and be the selfless one does not make sense.

@@storm_5088 I always find people hilarious who proudly say "fuck Songbird, she betrayed me!" These are the same people who, 100% would do the same and most likely far worse if in the same Situation. Did she Murder people? Yes. But is anyone really gonna cry about her killing a bunch of Hansens goons? Because people also always claim that she killed "tons" of people in the Stadium. Did they all somehow miss the part where, when we arrive at the Stadium and are escorted to Hansen, that one dude literally says Hansen had the stadium cleared of everyone that ain't Barghest. She did not manipulate us out of malice, she did it because of sheer desperation and the most basic drive every single Human has: survival. I have also seen a bunch of people talking about the Blackwall like it, and the rogue mutated AIs behind it, are no big deal and not even necessarily evil. Yeah, sure. Despite the Game always turning into a straight up Horror Game whenever the Blackwall is at play, or several AIs from behind the Blackwall straight up telling us they either want to enslave or exterminate Humanity.

It's also important to note that she didn't set out with the intention of manipulating V, she only found out the cure wouldn't work for both of them at some point after she met with Hansen, and had the opportunity and time to study the Cynosure project and neural matrix more in depth.

I think people that can't or won't grasp the situation with Songbird are mentally immature because they are young or other reasons. Empathy is needed here but you won't find it with players who are bent on having the invincible power trip experience that is entirely self-focused. Another reason would be people who entertain the idea of entering the mega-corp power structure and becoming "one of them" away from the struggling rabble. With these mindsets, of course Songbird gets in the way of the power fantasy, though I'm not sure players thinking like this would appreciate the Tower ending.

After Reed and Alex killed Aurore and her brother in cold blood, rather than just knocking them out and locking them up in a box until the mission was completed, I was fully intent on betraying Reed. That shit just didn't fly well with me. lol

I really wish I could choose to help Songbird all the way and not lose access to the bunker ending. I have so much easier a time relating to her pain than Reed's sense of "loyalty." Cyberpunk has no truly good people, but the bad things So Mi does in PL are out of desperation. Same as V.

Well, yeah, as a player i can be judgemental about her being manipulative about everybody and lying to V, trying to blow up a stadium, but V had done more horrendous things, like his headcount is in the thousands.

She absolutely nailed it. Songbird as a character barely had any marketing except before the launch compared to Reed, so I had zero expectations and she completely won me over. Having played both paths, Minji's performance on the Reed path is so beautifully emotional it was perfect. I kinda like how CDPR didn't really focus on her character during marketing, they just let the writing and her performance speak for themselves.

I played Cyberpunk again when I heard about the 2.0 patch. I heard it was best to play a new playthrough. I played as a Corpo. I found out there's an achievement for getting the Devil ending with Goro. I caved in getting Phantom Liberty after hearing glowing reviews of the expansion. I played it and enjoyed it. I really like Songbird. She grew on me throughout the expansion. I chose to help Songbird and send her to the Moon.

Awesome Interview, thanks! Songbird became my favorite character in Cyberpunk really quickly because there is so much nuance and background I can relate too. And just like you Dan, I went instinctively with the Moon ending because of what I‘ve seen in Songbird. I‘ve played all the other endings afterwards and none of them felt right. Maybe giving her freedom in death but even that felt just hopeless and pointless. That’s the beauty of Cyberpunk. All the characters have so much depth and probably anyone can find something to relate to and base their decisions on how they see them. This is an art Hollywood has completely forgot about and that make games like Cyberpunk so much more valuable.

PL and i guess CD in general do a good job in writing in the complexity of an individual so well. The writing overall for all the stories and characters were so well done. I can't stop craving more Cyberpunk, even after the amount of time I put in.

For me, the best ending was helping Songbird to the Moon, freeing Reed from his prison and storming Arasaka tower with Johnny. Only thing I regret is that I couldn't get my hands on Myers as she was the real snake, not Songbird.

I didn’t like or trust Songbird and sided with Reed but when you see the flashbacks from her past I sympathized with her and began to understand if not forgive the lying and manipulation. She was a really well written and acted character though. I’ll probably replay it soon and side with her to see that side of things.

I felt the opposite in a way. I decided to try to trust So Mi despite all her red flags and sided with her during the Kurt mission. She then stabbed me in the back and I gave her up while telling Reed he better make sure she stays alive/safe. I played again though and took Reeds side and saw the flashbacks and cried when I pulled her plug. This DLC was SO well done and really put V in yet another wild spider web.

@tgc93 I like that too because that's what Nightcity really is about, just survival, no good endings. I do feel though for continuity, killing So Mi and not getting the treatment allows the rest of the original story to play out. But that DLC ending 🥺🥺 I always knew Misty was a real one 🤘🤘

Nobody could hate Songbird! Show me the gonk who does and I will end him or her! LOL Minji did a fantastic job bringing So Mi to life. I'm on my 3rd PL playthrough, and it's my 5th time playing through Cyberpunk. I have loved the game ever since it came out. Thank goodness I play on PC and was fortunate to not experience any massive issues. The addition of Dogtown is the crowning piece. I am in love with that dark and gritty zone.

BIG SPOILERS AHEAD I'm convinced people that hate on Songbird are just self-exposing themselves as extremely selfish and unempathetic, like everybody is a human and understands lying hurts and betrayal does as well. But after seeing Reed's motives and how he behaves and why and then get to see Songbird only wanting to survive no matter the cost, I think that's far more valuable because it shows a person that is very weak screaming for help but nobody hears her. Even when I was sitting on that tram cabin and she finally said the truth, I just sit there looking at the dialogue thinking to myself; I can't even be mad, like I just feel sad and I want to help her.. you know, your future as V was already sealed to begin with so even if you didn't find a cure then, nothing would've changed but at least you helped Somi.. who wanted to go to the moon.

Who forced her to peek behind the Blackwall on a regular basis. Which can literally be compared to being forced to do regular Visits to Hell, because what goes on behind the Blackwall is Hell made by Man. She then was forced to completly borg up, because her human Body could not handle the Stress, and her Mind began cracking too. Everything she did was out of the basic survival instinct. People who hate on her because she lied, just because she wanted to simply live, are not only unempathetic and selfish, i would also 1000% call them hypocrites. Because i can guarantee you that if they were in even a remotely similar situation, they definitely would do the same and most likely even worse. Because those kind of people, who always have the high horse when judging others, are often the ones who display the really fucked up morals when pressured even slightly.

Minji did way better a job on songbird and loved how it turns out than the inital run with Jackie at the beginning of the game. You can see how much of herself she put into it, i would have to see her back as songbird in the upcoming sequel, which is possible if you choose to get her help in the game. while have to see

Such a sweetheart, makes my first PL playthrough so much bitter too since i went with giving into Reeds pleads and belived him when he said she'd die on the moon, i think i just could bare to kill him, wanted both of em to make it but of course So Mi payed the highest price in return. God what a game, toughest emotional toll since RDR 2 for me.

I loved songbirds ending if you help her the whole way through. V was betrayed, yes, but V is also dying and willing to do nearly anything to survive, and chances of survival aren't looking good. So, in for a penny in for a pound, at least Songbird will survive. Is she deserving, maybe not, but she was always trapped in a cage and is desprate to get out. She'll have to live with the guilt and trauma of what she's done and experienced, but she'll survive, and maybe one day she will be able to do a selfless act for someone else. I always felt V kinda felt like Tom Hanks character in saving private ryan at the end, "Earn this."

It was interesting how opposite the two paths were gameplay wise. Siding with Songbird had you running around with godlike powers destroying everything in your path while siding with Reed had you playing Alien Isolation. LOL I did not betray Idris.

In my first playthough I took Songbird to the Moon, but I was so disappointed that she didn't help V at all! So in my second playthough I've betrayed her, and oh boy, best decision ever because only doing that you see her complete backstory

@@idontwannatypeaname I know but be warned: SPOILERS AHEAD..... If you do this, Reed will hand Song over to Myers. By doing so her fate will probably be worse than death because the Blackwall AI will take over her body and mind. After that you can see the brand new ending, where Reed offers a surgery to remove the Relic. If you accept you wake up 2 years later, Silverhand was erased, all V's friends have moved on with their lives and now you are completely alone. You can't use cyberware anymore so any street punk in Night City can kick your ass. Your dream to become a legend is over..... "A happy ending? For folks like us? Wrong city. Wrong people." - Johnny Silverhand

Just completed my first playthrough as Nomad V, with what I consider a reflection of my own values as a person expressed during gameplay. I saved Songbird, sent her to Luna - no regrets. It was the right choice. Next time, however, 'Gangster V' won't be so kind 🤣 Minji's voice acting was absolutely legendary in every aspect - not once did it feel fake or scripted. I hope she does future titles in the gaming space.

It's kinda strange though. Sol looks exactly like the original actor. It seems they enhanced a few things on So Mi. Like her lips and eyes. Interesting. Must have had lip implants lol. Her nose looks the same that's about it. It even looks like they made her eye sockets deeper. So Mi looks a lot more mixed than the actual actress does.

her take on songbird was great. It made me sad when she was talking about belonging. Sad that murica is so obssesed with identity and full or racial stereotypes.

I think it's a crime that Minji's name isn't right beside Idris Elba's in the closing credits. Songbird is THE other character of this DLC, literally one of the two pillars that hold the story up. The most important choice is literally between the two of them for crying out loud!

In my playthrough... I Sent songbird back to Meyers, because in her storyline, it would be the first time she would be facing consequences for her decisions. Death was an easy way out, so no go. But performance wise, Minji was amazing. Made me hate the character (because I was so immersed) almost as much as I despised Reed. This expansion was worth every ennie

@@CedricBassman Yes... yes it is. Escaping from facing consequences for your mistakes every step of the way. Using everyone else for personal goals without remorse. I did pay attention. Not even remotely remorseful of anything...just me-me-me all the way. Regardless of the path you take, she is 100% self-centered and has no care about the death and destruction she reaps. Actually. Now that I think of it... she was even worse than Reed. He actually had some remorse for his actions.

“I wronged so many hurt so many…” Sounds pretty much like accountability to me. Also none of those characters are villains. In cyberpunk from the time of the TTRPG the only ones who are labeled as a villain are the corporations.

@@lyianx Yes she was, in every sense of the word. She had no issue using the blackwall to force V and others to help her. She used the Blackwall to kill slider so he couldnt reveal anything about her plans as Slider sees what the hell V has gotten him into in the deepdive. She lied to V all the way and sold him down the river like everyone else. She helped NUSA in the assassination attempt on Reed How in your mind can you see Songbird as a good person ? She used her charms to dupe everyone.

⁠⁠@@r3sid3nt3vil8The blackwall is an entity that will fry anyone who tries to penetrate it. That’s why the VDBs need Alt’s help in order to make it safely to other side. Slider gets fried because Reed forced him into it. Not because So Mi had any intentions to harm him. She has no control over what will happen to him once he’s in. Also shut him up about what? The only one who is afraid about this whole story leaking is Myers. She also doesn’t use the blackwall to push anyone to help her. She just uses it to connect to V. She goes behind the blackwall only whenever she absolutely needs it. Like when her life is in danger. The blackwall isn’t something that anyone likes to mess with voluntarily it’s dangerous and whenever you poke into it it takes something from you. Regarding Reed. She was executing Myer’s orders. It was either him or her. Even Idris Elba said that in an interview and even Reed as a character admits in one of the endings that she was the victim all along and never blamed her for anything No wonder you gonna vilify her so much if you don’t look further into the narrative

Alex dies, Songbird turns into a rogue ai hybrid, massive shootout in Dogtown, You and Reed along with 6th Street Gangers ambush a MaxTech convoy, lots of death and destruction. Track Songbird to an old militech bunker, deal with another rogue ai robot that will insta-kill you if it spots you. You go through random flashbacks of songbird past and her time in the CIA/NUSA. You have a moment where you choose to betray songbird or side with NUSA. Siding with NUSA grants you an ending where you are cured but go into a coma for 2yrs. Turns out you can't use cybernetics any longer and you're just a regular old Joe. You head back to NC and see that Militech has taken over and everything has changed and that's about it. There's more with companions and stuff but you get it.

Minji voiced one of the most beloved characters in the game. For the base game, it was Jackie Welles. God I miss that big lug. lol But for Phantom, it's definitely So Mi. The final act was absolutely incredible. Ughh... I can't let it go. I'm so attached to Cyberpunk 2077 now. I really hope Orion carries on the same spirit as this game. Really curious at how it will look, using the Unreal Engine 5. The general engine demos I've seen look immensely good.
