Sesame Street handled the death of Mr. Hooper in the most stunning and beautiful way ever. Unforgettable.

That scene when Big Bird reacts to the death of Mr. Hooper always gets me. Old school Sesame Street was the best.

I really can't stop thinking about that scene even though it aired almost 5 years before I was born. It probably was the most realistic episode they ever did and they didn't sugarcoat it or just explain that he retired. I don't know if they would air something like this nowadays. Poor Big Bird. The cast had a very hard time getting through that scene but they did a phenomenal job.

It's so easy to take a situation like this and treat it as "oh, he moved away" in the show's universe. But they didn't. They took the mature route that children will eventually have to understand and handled it well. I've only really seen clips online, but it's nice to see the subjects that this show tackles, the efforts it puts through for its viewers.

It's interesting that the scene with the adults explaining death to Big Bird is so well done, so touching and so beloved among fans, and yet an episode explaining divorce was never aired! It's weird to think that explaining death to a child is easier than explaining divorce!

Bowmaj 86 Like she said. Divorce is a man-made entity. Death, is just death and it's naturally here and will occur.

From the first time I saw Sesame Street I thought Maria was beautiful, one of the best humans on the show. I loved everything about Old School Sesame Street.
