Tired of using a Control Pad? Want a new inventive way of controlling Sonic through his first adventure? With Sonic 1 Point and Click Edition, created by Nat The Porcupine, you can now use a mouse peripheral to do just that and manipulate other objects. It works great on emulation, but does it work on real hardware?

That's funny because that's what happened to my left one! I had a testicular surgery in February 2019 because I accidentally busted them and then had to stay home for 2 weeks due to my inability to walk properly after the surgery. I know it wasn't necessary to mention that to the public, but I felt like this would be a good time to bring that up given the pun.

There was a Sega mouse and even printer, it was partially advertised for adults in Japan, so they made it compatible with banking and the internet but i hardly believe that someone in 1991 chose to do their bills using the Megadrive lol

You know RHS, you have to remember that back in the day, these devices were not hot-swappable. That is to say, they would only be detected once, and assumed that they were there infinitely until the device was reset or powered off. That would explain why you never got a halt when you unplugged the JP Sega Mouse.

I nearly didn't get the EU mouse for this episode as it was over £160 on eBay. But one day, I got extremely lucky with a 99p bid start on the mouse with the box. Still ended relatively high but not as much as the others so I got lucky.

The whole "dropping objects on Sonic can shift him around all over the place" is actually in pretty much all the classic Sonic games, and "level wrapping" as it's called is a very useful bug to exploit by the speedrunning community.

If i remember correctly, it comes from sonic clipping through the floor and being flung to the edge of a level, where sonic's X position has an underflow and takes him to the highest X value.

I appreciate the effort to translate the description to (brazilian) portuguese (my mother tongue) and the translation is almost perfect. Except by the very first message: "ALTO-FALANTES NÃO INGLÊS:" which it should be traslated to "NÃO-FALANTES DE INGLÊS" "Auto-falantes (Brazilian Portuguese), is the name for the Loudspeaker (the electronic device), not the person who speaks.

3:48, cause thats how "real" games with controller checks do it. i believe devs do that so you can't go "my controller is not working, THE GAME IS BUSTED GARBAGE!" after making sure you understand that the mouse is a requirment, it would just be a wast of cpu to KEEP checking for the mouse.

You keep mentioning the keyboard when it comes to emulation, I hope you know the vast majority use a controller with their emulators! Enjoying this series btw, there's more to it than expected usually.

Well, usually emulators don't expect you to have a controller, wich not a lot of people have anyway so yeah, it was useful back in the 2000s where PC compatible controllers where scarce. Nowadays it's still not the norm to own a controller but it's much easier to get one and is recommended to do so. An emulator without keyboard (and/or mouse) support isn't ideal either, so I think it's safe to assume most people play on a keyboard when using emulators. (I like both tbh)

@@mark030a You're obviously disconnected from the emulation community. We use controllers for authenticity. All input is supported, gamepad is obviously preferential.

Just because you have the option doesn't mean you can use it or will use it, an emulator works fine without a controller is what I'm saying. And at this point, yeah, I guess I'm disconnected, because I'll never understand that community. And I don't even want to anymore.
