Pointing out the facial expression on Sonic when Knuckles comes through the door I'm calling a Flashback moment there to the opening of the first one. We gotta remember the last time Sonic saw an echidna from his world they were trying to kill him and here comes the source of his exile/nightmares with his current archnemesis so just *chef's kiss* to the direction for that moment alone because damn.

For sure feeling ok with either or choice. First movie hinted at Metal with Robotnik having the blue quill, but this one is hinting at Shadow with the Gun organization. I can see it going either way but honestly am happy with either choice 😊

Oh my goodness, not only am I hyped for this (even though I haven't seen the first one yet) but oh my gosh your giddy reaction and squeals were just outright adorable and I love watching every single one of your reactions, it's cute and it honestly cheers me up every time, also in terms of metal or shadow, obviously I'd take shadow more for a shadow fan, but considering how this movie is practically sonic 3 as a movie, logically I think metal would be next

Looking at all this hype trailer made me forget one Important thing. Sonic has a phone

It's great to see your excitement for Sonic 2, especially when I think back to where we all were 3 years back with that first trailer for Sonic 1! You know, I've never played any of the Sonic games (not for more than 5 minutes anyway), but I've still grown up with character. From reruns of the 90's series, Sonic Underground (remember that?), and Sonic X, that little blue hedgehog has left an impact. I'm just happy to see him being treated nicely for once (Lord knows Sonic Team hasn't been doing that). It really makes me want to play the old games properly to celebrate!

So hear me out. I think both Metal and Shadow could be in the next movie. Here’s how it could happen: at the end of Sonic 1, the government was looking for Sonic, but his presence was kept secret by Tom. G.U.N. is involved in this movie, and the scale of the final confrontation in Sonic 2 will undoubtedly end up revealing Sonic to the government. The government being, y’know… the government, they’ll want to obtain Sonic’s power for themselves. At the end of Sonic 2, G.U.N. could wind up getting their hands on one of Sonic’s quills like Robotnik did in the first movie. I suspect that Robotnik will use the quill he obtained to create Metal Sonic in an attempt to create a robot that can be Sonic’s equal. But I also think the government will want to create a contingency plan in the event that Sonic proves to be untrustworthy, and so they’ll commission the creation of artificially engineered copy of Sonic as part of a secret program, and that will lead to the creation of Shadow. Then in the third movie, when Sonic ends up losing to Metal in their first confrontation early in the movie, the government will want to step in and dispatch their own “copy” of Sonic, who they’ll presume to be able to control. But maybe the scientist that helped create Sonic will have tampered with some forces beyond his understanding. And heck, if the chaos emeralds are involved in Sonic 2, maybe they confiscate those. Or maybe the government already has a chaos emerald that they’ve kept secret this whole time, and its power is combined with the power from Sonic’s quill, accounting for the differences between Sonic and Shadow. Maybe they’ll adapt the Gerald Robotnik origin story by having some of Gerald’s research from years ago as part of the government project, maybe they’ll introduce Maria as part of his motivation for betraying the government, maybe they’d even adapt the Black Arms origin by having the government utilize some sort of alien DNA they found to create Shadow. I’m doubtful of those particular details, but I do think Shadow will be a government creation that gets out of their control.
