I'm compelled to agree, but I also think that this game has a very clear goal of getting a new, younger audience into Sonic. I personally wish we could get Sonic x Shadow Generations as an add-on and update to the original Gens if we purchased it on Steam, but I think I'm asking for too much.

06 was weird because it not only removes the effect, but the camera warps to Shadow's location, instead of tracking (or rather "snapping") to his location. But yeah, glad they brought it back.

He is the ultimate, that's for sure.

Honestly, I'm fairly certain that you're definitely part of the target audience with this game. Have fun with it. So far, it looks like it's going to be a pretty good game.

I've personally never had an issue where controller config in frontiers. Right middle finger on the Trigger/ZR button and Index fingers on the Bumpers/L and R buttons felt really comfortable after getting used to it.

Yes, they did. It's already been confirmed by players at Summer Games Fest that they added the drop dash for the original Generations part.

I loved Sam Procrastinates reaction to those floppy gills, it was amazing. I'm still waiting for a review to check the game's technical stability before I buy it. If it's good, I'll probably get it Day 1.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I played the PC version and ran into a huge amount of bugs and oversights, but it doesn't matter to me that much, because the PS4 and especially the Switch versions had plenty of users showing glitches, including ones that could have caused Epilepsy. Colors Ultimate was a poorly constructed game, from start to finish, which is extra ridiculous since it was a port of an already finished game. Maybe one day I'll make a video about it.

@AnotherSonicFanboy I'd have to play through Colors Ultimate again for that (to gather footage), which is a huge hurdle on its own. Maybe when I have the sufficient free time and willpower, I'll get to it, because there's a LOT to say about that game and the broader conversation about companies releasing unfinished games.

Well, I expect it's easier to optimize and polish up a port of a game and some extra levels, compared to a huge game like Frontiers.

My theory is that they want to pull in the newer audiences that came in from the movies. Kinda like a "Hey, look at this cool Sonic movie with Shadow! Now here's a Sonic game with all the fan favorite levels AND Shadow!"

@@Sonicsaber25I’m not surprised. There has been plenty of fans who speculate that it was made to go along with the 3rd paramount movie.

Whole I'm not 100% sure, I think they ran into issues because the original Gens was built with a different control scheme in mind. Therefore, they probably couldn't change the controls that much, outside of adding a few moves and changing button mappings. That being said, I could be 100% wrong and the game will have a completely different feel on release. I'm okay with Shadow Generations being like Frontiers though, because it's more content (which they need, to justify the $30 increase) and it provides a A-B comparison of how they've improved their control scheme and level design.

Honestly, with the current state of the fanbase, I'd be terrified of the expectations that an Adventure remake would hold if it were announced.

I really think they should have done generations when the Sonic movie 2 came out its a no-brainer for an introduction game to the franchise why they went for a dated game like colors Still Baffles me to this very day. @Sonicsaber25

I have a hypothesis. The fact that they gave it to a 3rd party studio like Blind Squirrel is probably because they wanted to accomplish 2 things: 1) Experiment with the remasters thing. 2) Give people a game to give a sense that there isn't a "drought" of content while Frontiers was being made. While they got a positive response for the concept, their execution wasn't great. But, it was Sonic Colors; it wasn't a game that had as much of an impact like other games.

Shadow's character has generally been a straightforward serious guy, so I'm hoping to see him go back to that. The in-game dialogue I've seen gives me hope. As for the "best Sonic game", I'd make an argument for it being best, but I can see it being in my Top 5, depending on how much content we get.

The controls are different, but other than Shadow Generations, I'd say it's basically the original Generations with a few graphical upgrades and QoL changes.

Very rarely does Sonic Team allow changing of controls in their games. I could be wrong though, only time will tell. The original Gens only had custom controls for keyboard. The Switch has button re-mapping available which can be saved as a control profile. That being said, I prefer the newer control scheme, since it allows for more freedom to do multiple actions.

If you're talking about Colors Ultimate, that's the exception, not the rule. Again, it's very possible that Sonic Team might let players customize controls in their newer releases, I'm just saying that it's not happened so often before.

Actually, the stages do have the Hedgehog engine 2 lighting. I didn't touch on it in the video (I think I forgot), but the stages are somewhat different compared to the original gens, at least when I compared it to the footage I recorded. That being said, I'm 99% sure this remaster exists so they can flaunt the lessons they learned with Frontiers and apply it to Shadow (and also, marketing it along with the movie).

I'd normally agree, but I bought the original Generations at launch for $20. Even with Shadow Generations and inflation, it's tough to argue for the $60 tag on the Digital Deluxe. I can maybe make an argument for $50 on the standard edition, depending on how much Shadow content we get.

@@Sonicsaber25 Understandable but still, Sonic X Shadow Generations is probably too awesome to only cost 20-40 bucks. So I’d say $50-$60 is pretty generous for such a big and great game.

I don't remember exactly how, but I was in the UK at the time for sightseeing and found the game for the equivalent of $20-30.

Ehhh... I'm gonna have to debate that one... I will agree with SOME of it being better (like some of the boss fights and later stages), but I'm not sure about the game as a whole. It's good, but i still prefer PC Gens (with or without mods).

The HD version is far better than the 3DS version ! Objectively, better level design, control and overall a far more enjoyable game than the 3DS version

I think Generations for PC is the best overall, but the 3ds definitley had the superior final boss by far. I sincerely hope, that they design the final boss after the 3ds version in the remake/remaster, but I wont hold my breath

@Ibalistic_hedge I dunno, I'd make an argument for Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal being worse than Gens 3DS.

I have to agree that the price tag is definitely way too steep for a remake with a level pack. That being said, I do want to wait and see just how much Shadow Generations includes as content. There's nothing concrete, but the rumor mill says that he'll have the same amount of levels as the original Sonic Generations, so take that how you will. The extra stage isn't pre-order DLC, because the digital deluxe edition is likely going to be available after launch as well, but I still don't agree with the extra $10 price tag. I think you explained exactly why they're putting Shadow in the spotlight lol. Since the movie is releasing and promoting Shadow for a younger audience, they're planning on having a game to draw the new audience in ("Year of Shadow" and all that). In the end, this game was probably meant for testing the waters for the new engine they started with Frontiers and remaster, while drawing a newer audience into mainline Sonic. I think it's more of a stepping stone to tide people over until the next mainline release.

First, the reaction was mainly just surprise at the cost, especially after Colors Ultimate and Origins being disappointing releases for their price. I didn't go on and on about it being too unreasonable. Second, my main complaint was about the deluxe edition being an extra 10 dollars for no extra physical collectibles, while physical pre-orders get a lore book for no added cost. This is all AFTER Frontiers came out with free DLC that included a whole new island and final boss (among MANY other things). Third, near the end of the video, I STILL conceded that the price is still not too bad compared to other releases that came before it. Did you even watch the video, or did you just want to come to the comments to generalise every criticism as "Smh Sonic fans" just to somehow feel superior?

Also Colors price matched its quality (on release at least) and they eventually fixed it as anyone with a singular brain cell knew they would. Second, if you’re main gripe was that the deluxe edition was $10 extra (pocket change) for no extra collectibles but the pre order did… Just go with the pre order😅 It’s a digital deluxe so your not getting anything physical to begin with. Now let's go down the list: Sonic Origins: -The absolute mess that was the multiple different digital versions for the prices -The games were built on a different engine, but not properly ported, leading to issues like input lag and issues with scripted segments -Despite it being a "Beloved Classic", They couldn't be bothered to get the rights for Sonic 3's Ice Cap and Launch Base Zone. -All of these would be as bad if it weren't for the fact that Sonic Mega Collection Plus, a game from 2009, did everything better and had more games for zero extra cost. Sonic Colors Ultimate: -"Matched price on quality". Wrong. The Switch version should've been free based on its graphical glitches that caused the epileptic seizures. -The other versions should've been no more than $10 dollars because they managed to somehow take a finished game and make it unfinished with graphical and audio glitches, as well as longer load times (not because of the graphical "upgrade" but because of lack of optimisation). -Maybe they patched out the worst offenders later, but the framerate issues, intermittent crashes, unnecessary load times and various graphical issues exist. I've played the game 100% after the patch, and it made it barely playable. -If you're OK with that, then fine. But don't diminish other people's valid criticisms of a game simply because you don't have the same standards. The pre-order: -A pre-order physical PC version doesn't exist, so PC players who want the lore book are screwed out of it. Just because you have the money, doesn't mean everyone else does. -$10 isn't pocket change, just because you think it is. Even if it was, if the content you're being offered doesn't match price, then it's a waste of money regardless. Sonic Forces tried to make Super Sonic DLC for $2 which definitely not worth it (and the Shadow DLC of 3 extra levels was free, btw) -We came off of Sonic frontiers' free DLC which was 20 times more content than what's being offered for this Digital Deluxe Edition. "Common sense": -A game's price is not "common sense". It's a value determined by other humans, who can be greedy. If you want to pay that much, fine, pay for it. But again, don't diminish other people's points as "Sonic fans Smh" -"There's nothing to feel superior about" and yet you're somehow trying to feel it, based on the the last paragraph's implication. -"There's having an opinion and then there's being wrong". I'm glad you said that, because you were wrong about Colors Ultimate's patches, despite your notion that it was "fixed". This is the last I'm saying on the matter. Idk, after they introduced the spin-dash and multiple different characters in Frontiers DLC, I think that after a lot of polishing, they might be able to make it work. Then again, Sonic Team is notorious for ditching something that works instead of refining it.
